Knoxville Skate Park | Inline Skating at 63
Seth and I skated on a super hot day in Knoxville TN. Not great flow at the park, but a lot of fun obstacles to skate. Got a few more jump on's on a DIY ledge, and fell on my sore hip yet again. Great day overall though!

First Rock to Fakie! | Skateboarding at 63

Bagged my first real rock to fakies today! First skate since turning 63 and I'm feeling good. My right hip not so much, it has taken some serious abuse the past week or two but it will heal (I hope). Super hot again today, we are in the middle of a heat wave here in North Carolina.

Got some good grinds at Mooresville, though it was a really painful day after a couple of hard early slams on the ledges. My fail vs grind ratio was dismal. Even with the antirocker setup, I was not getting good foot placement on the ledges and suffered all day. Seth was really on fire today though, and got some good ones on various obstacles. Overall we had a blast though it was tempered a bit...

      I have done a lot of sports where falling is part of progression, and lets just say I have hit the deck way more times in my life than I would like. The old tuck and roll does get a lot harder when you get older though, but if I wore any more pads, I would look like the Michelin Man!

      Wow, where do you skate? Our issue is the heat/humidity combination, its just hard to cool down when the sweat won't evaporate. I generally skate in the late afternoon, I start work at 7 am and its hard to do anything in the mornings. Its been really hot and humid these past few weeks and we usually don't get this kind of weather until late July and August. I still exercise in it, but its not comfortable!

    ok thats why you rolled instead of sliding on your knees.im 50 yr old skater from Philadelphia. i got a tip that might be worth trying. when you go to drop in sqquat down and try to touch the nose of your board. this puts you in optimal position and automatically gets a good pump. also im not sure if you have them but get some hip pads. i ride a 9.5 new deal siamese with 169s and 58mm dragons. this improved my bowl skating drastically. the young guys ride popsicle decks and small wheels because they do flip tricks i dont care for them. i didnt in the 90s and i still dont. you do what you want though, im just saying. i got videos too. just click on my picture sir. you are not wimpy what you got is on your brain bucket

    • @theaverageoldguy
      @theaverageoldguy 12 часов назад

      Squatting gets so much harder as you get older! That's a great tip though. I went from a 7 something deck from the 90's straight to a 9.75 egg shape, but that size was just too big for me. I have small feet and didn't like the fact I couldn't feel the edges of the board. I tried my son's smaller deck and liked it, so got an 8.5 with 159's and some bones wheels. I really like that size a lot, it feels perfect for my feet and has great stability and is lighter than the egg, so I can move it around quicker. I found out quickly when I started inline skating last fall that padded shorts were a great idea. I have some bodyprox that did me OK until recently when it seemed that I fell on my hip where there was a gap in the padding every time. I recently got some rhip clips and they are great!

    • @theaverageoldguy
      @theaverageoldguy 13 часов назад

      Its slowly getting better, but I still have trouble sleeping on that side. I got a set of rHip cLips clip on hip pads at my local skate shop, I think I show them in a video coming out soon. They just go down your pants and you clip them to your waist band. I wore Bodyprox padded shorts for a long time and it just seemed like they had a gap in the padding right at my hip bone. With the new clip on pads, I can place them wherever I want them. I have taken a couple of falls on that hip with them and its not nearly as bad, it it wasn't already sore I probably wouldn't even have felt it and you can't even tell you are wearing them.

    Happy Birthday! Please, keep rolling forever, skating makes you younger! No matter what age you don't need to be doing insane tricks to enjoy it! Nothing I love more than just longboarding down smooth walkways near the beach and just skating all day!

      @@theaverageoldguy cool. I think next year for sure. Which state are you in? I will return to western new york in January coming from abroad. I'm sure I'll have a couple weeks free to travel.

      @@merlebump5328 I'm in North Carolina. Not real close to New York, but certainly not west coast far away!

      @@theaverageoldguy Awesome. Yeah, not too far. i'm hoping to travel a bit anyway for a few weeks. I'll be back to the states in mid January. I know it's not possible to skate in western New York in January, but how about your area? I'm used to skating in the cold, just not the snow. I skated most of the winter in Beijing, it's usually cold but dry.

    • @theaverageoldguy
      @theaverageoldguy 2 дня назад

      @@merlebump5328 We can generally do outdoor sports all year, we get very little snow and that's usually gone quickly if we do get it. Last winter my son and I never had to wait on weather to skate. Cold here is not the same as cold in upstate NY! We rarely have days with the high temp below freezing, most winter days average in the 40's and 50's, very comfortable skating weather.

      Oh man, I have never ice skated, the thought of that scares me! I do love watching ice hockey though and think I would have loved to have played growing up. The only ice we ever saw was in the freezer in eastern North Carolina! Keep it going and never stop!
