I finally land a jump on Ledge Grind on the inline skates!

  • After a great P-rail session the previous day, I took that to the park and finally landed some jump on soul grinds on the ledge! I was super excited and it seemed OK at the time, but man I paid a heavy price the next few days with sore knees and back. At least 50 misses for just a few actual grinds is making me question my sanity!

    You really got comfortable and increased your speed. Once you started feeling better with the speed you had great slides!

    • @theaverageoldguy
      @theaverageoldguy  Месяц назад

      The speed definitely helps, its just harder to commit when going faster. For me it seems the commitment is 90% of the problem, that ledge is almost at the limit of my jumping ability and making that commitment is mentally, as well as physically, taxing. Hopefully it will get better, though right now its still a struggle.

    Nice work dude...try torqing that soul plate foot giving your ankle a little stretch to give for surface contact on your soul grinds...and what helps me is jumping higher than i think i actually need to jump..so then im ON TOP of the obstacle...keep it up my guy..your consistency definitely shows..🔥🔥🔥 video

      @theaverageoldguy  Месяц назад

      You are so right, jumping higher and landing ON TOP is the key. When I commit to that, I almost always make the grind. The problem is the commitment!

    Hell yeah new trick unlocked! Just soul grind everything now. (That front h block foot should have a feeling as if you’re scraping paint off the ledge. If that helps).

      Oh if it were just that easy! Been in a bit of a "jump slump" lately. This session and one I will post this weekend really beat me up badly, and I have been hesitant to jump since then. I'm trying to work my way out of that now, but its been really tough. I hate getting old!

  • @merlebump5328

    Nice. I'm getting pretty consistent with around 1 ft high ledges, soul grind and frontside. With a rail, I can only do step on

    • @theaverageoldguy
      @theaverageoldguy  Месяц назад

      Yea, for some reason that rail still scares me. I don't do well jumping from a stationary position into a stall, and coming into that with even a little speed scares me. Its at the upper limit of my jumping ability as well, so the combination is just mentally hard to overcome. I am working on adding some adjustable legs to my p-rail to incrementally raise it in hopes I can work my way up.

    For the rail, try to just step up and balance a soul stall, then practice jumping off on both sides.

      I have done a few step on grinds on the rail so far, but for some reason jumping on is just mentally tough. I'm not pushing on that, it will happen in its own time. Your ledge grinds looked sweet in your last video!

      @@theaverageoldguy yup I also skateboarded growing up and found that rollerblading is more about simply committing, its not as hard as skateboarding but it can "feel" harder because you can't just step off or run out a trick like before lol but once you start committing the progress happens so fast, you're going to be sliding long soul grinds within a few session

    • @theaverageoldguy
      @theaverageoldguy  Месяц назад

      @@inlineonline Yep, not being able to run out a failed trick is still something I am getting used to on the inlines. Its certainly a different feeling and does require a different type of commitment. I am getting more and more used to it as time goes by and hopefully will feel at home on the inlines at some point.

    Get a better flat frame or antirocker for those ledge grinds. Good work

    • @theaverageoldguy
      @theaverageoldguy  Месяц назад

      I did have antirockers on for the last set of grinds and it definitely helped, though I don't like skating around the park with that setup now that I am used to the flats. My foot placement is so bad that even the antirocker setup was tough, but that is mostly a mobility issue for me. I am working on that and maybe I can improve, at least I hope I can!

      @theaverageoldguy  Месяц назад +1

      General fitness has never been an issue, I come from an endurance sport background, but the strength and mobility required for skating is something I am slowing working towards. It gets harder and harder as I get older that's for sure!

      @@yt.damian I have finally gotten a better handle on my back pain once I was able to start back on my mobility work after the MCL injury, and I have added daily heavy club work to augment my weekly weight training. I hope to start back on the agility work soon too, that also took a hit with the MCL tear. I find the biggest challenge as I age is the loss of quickness and mobility, which directly translates into being able to catch myself before I hit the deck. If you aren't currently doing mobility work, I would highly suggest doing something. Even a simple routine will work wonders and I can tell you from experience, as you edge toward 60, it gets harder and harder to stay mobile!
