  • Working on 180's landing onto transitions and on the 4 foot wall. I am getting better at the transitions, but carrying a lot of speed still freaks me out. The wall 180's are progressing, but still not where I want them, and not at the point I want to try one out of a frontside stall. Hoping for improvements going forward.

    Great progress 🎉 … I am still jumping 180’s on flat ground and not rolling, so seeing you do this is great inspiration and motivation

      Keep at it, it will eventually get there. I was in exactly the same spot not too long ago, and found that just a little speed made it easier. The one thing that helped me most was to expect to roll after I made the jump from forwards to backwards. For a long time I expected to stop and once I got to the point I expected to actually roll after the spin, it clicked. I still struggle doing forwards to backwards transitions with any real speed, but I can go a little faster each time I work on it. Good Luck!

    Killin' it man. Not only do I see the improvement in your skills, Old Man...but I think I see the years coming off too! "A body in motion, stays in motion." That box will see a 180 on & 180 off by the end of the summer, right?

    you're doing great, brother. keep posting your progress, I'm enjoying it and cheering for you. quick tip: when jumping to fakie, try to always land with your knees slightly bent. keep your knees bent on inclined surfaces and straighten up after reaching flat surfaces. It will lower your body and give you more stability. Take care and have fun! 🇧🇷

      Thanks! The bent knee issue is a sore spot with me (literally) I always think I am bending them so much more than I do and when I see it on video, its like I'm barely moving down. My right knee has terrible arthritis and that makes bending so much harder, but working on that as much as I can.

      @@theaverageoldguy oh yes, i forgot you have some issues with your knees. but as i said, slightly bent and you'll feel way more confident and stable. but also respect your limits to avoid injuring. one way or another you're developing your skills and apparently you're having fun... also exercising yourself. that's great.

    Nice. I've been doing that recently too. Up is no problem, I can get some air out. 180 down is a bit scary. I'm trying both directions too, but if I jump off a ledge or something like that, i prefer spinning to the left

    • @theaverageoldguy
      @theaverageoldguy  2 месяца назад +1

      I have tried both directions and spinning to the right is not comfortable at all even though that's how I spin when I transition from backwards to forwards. It makes no sense and like you I am trying to get it in both directions. Hopefully it will work for us both!

    Nice work work dude, i can definitely see the confidence in your skating!! What helps me these days is working on the flexibility of my knees so i can get lower to the ground which gives more stability....keep on dude, your inspiring us all at all ages man . And remember....most of all enjoy the process.

      Definitely enjoying the process! I am working on the flexibility. Arthritis in my right knee limits the mobility on that, but I work to keep it as mobile as I can. Neither knee is in stellar condition, but mobility work certainly helps.

      What kind of routine do you do for your knees? I am always looking for different approaches to flexibility in my knees. I use some of the knees over toes guy stuff, but I am not able to do a lot of his routines.

      To be honest, i dont do anything special, i usually just make sure my knees are warmed up a little before i skate, by doing about 20 reps of knee bending excercises, self squates and the. Some lunches to engage that knee strenth....aside from that, i eat alot of spinach and fiber shakes with bananas and berries to give more "librication" to my joints. That usually helps along with the fruit shakes but, psychologically, i still battle with lifting my legs up OVER obstacles, so that i land ONTOP of what im grinding istead of it feeling like im jumping AT the obstacle...

      I take collagen, Chondroitin and MSM, Krill Oil, and other supplements and eat well to try and keep what little joint lubrication I still have working. I do the same thing before I skate, just skate around some and do some squats to warm up my knees. I'm with you on the psychological part. That's my usual problem, just mentally committing to a grind. When I do that, I generally land on the obstacle, if I'm not 100% committed, its into the side of it every time. I still can't commit to the rail yet, working on that one mentally and hopefully it will come.
