  • The BEST Taycan Variant is the Sport Turismo - and this 4S might be the Goldilocks car - combining the sportiness of the sports sedan, with the practicality and good looks of the Cross Turismo, in this amalgamated Sport Turismo. A low slung, super wagon EV, that is in my estimation the best looking of the bunch!
    Any why not more variants? #Taycan accounts for over 10% of all #Porsche Sales now, and that’s worldwide which is impressive - just in 2023’s first quarter it outsold German rivals and for the first time outsold the Model S. And we aren’t only getting more variants, two of Porsche’s best sellers are turning full #electriccar with the Macan EV and the 718 electric/ Boxster EV - and I’ll fill you in on those in this video!
    Today we’re going to test the ST on the road, show you the shocking 0-60 time, and I’ll give you every detail on what makes the car what it is including the most asked question of - what the heck is the difference between this and the CT - along with my experience living with the car for the past 6 months!
    So far I’ve done over 6000 miles in my 4S, as I have been so addicted, it even shames my E63S in some regards. I’ll dive into some ownership experience, loved/hated, advice etc.
    This is the two-tier Performance Battery Plus version of the 4S, with 4+1 seating, and electric sport sound. I’ll also show you how I activated self-driving Innodrive as an over the air update!
    Today we explore:
    - Taycan Sport Turismo 4S
    - Sport Turismo vs Cross Turismo
    - Battery and electric motors
    - Suspension
    - Internal head room and space
    - Boot space
    - Charging the Taycan at home with Andersen EV

      @@jak493 I tried the taycan S, not 4S. You can easily notice the difference of power between the S and the GTS if you push hard the vehicle. But honnestly, you will be happy with the S or 4S. I personnaly took the GTS for the extra features and GTS interior, etc. Note that I have optioned all performance options on the gts with PDDC sport, rear axle steering. Standard steel brakes do the job well, no need for PCCB or PSCB

    I’ve been driving my 4s sedan now for 3 months and completely subscribe to you view except for two points. Rear-wheel steering helps you really in inner city driving and tight spots, it might be a couple of decimeters, but it makes the difference. With respect to recuperation, it is coasting that brings me the really low power consumption. The car hides it’s heavy, but that weight is inertia that let’s you coast easily.

  • @DG-wd2nm
    @DG-wd2nm Год назад +6

    Great vid as per usual. Thank you for your content. I will like to call an alibi on one of the points you made. I, and many, completely disagree with you on the subscription being a good idea. Regardless of whether one pays for it up front or not. If the car has it, and it’s a matter of software, just give it to people. I’m over simplifying, granted, but imagine if you had to pay a subscription for your refrigerator to also make ice. BMW tested theory with carplay some time ago and found people at their gates with torches and pitchforks. Please do not normalize that concept sir, lol, they make enough money. Thanks again.

    • @BinaryBlueBull
      @BinaryBlueBull Год назад +3

      You're right I think. My opinion is that installing hardware that the customer can't use unless he pays a subscription is a ridiculous waste of resources, which only serves to increase revenue for the OEM's because they can produce each car the same way and so benefit from the economies of scale. In a time where we're all asked to watch our consumption, watch our emissions, recycle, spend less, move to electric vehicles, fly less, have less children,..... I find it an affront that companies that together produce about a hundred million cars a year are starting to install loads of advanced equipment, undoubtedly using many different and sometimes exotic resources, which is never going to be used. This should be restricted by law I think, though some people might find that too extreme, "free market" and all
      And all that is even on top of the simple fact that they, like you say, make enough money already. No need to squeeze people like lemons. If the hardware is installed the hardware should be useable, simple as that

    You can activate 'auto' recuperation by pressing the button for 2 seconds. The car will use its radar to control the amount of braking if there is someone in front of you.

  • @kempez
    @kempez Год назад +2

    The ST is still such a practical car. 3-4 times a week have the boot completely full and you can actually carry a lot of stuff in there, albeit I always get rid of the useless parcel shelf.
    And then you empty it out, the kids are not with you and you can properly drive it. The biggest thing is the feel that it gives you is better than a lot of modern cars on the road. And it feels like a Porsche. The steering gives you feedback, the car handles like actual magic and the speed you can carry is ridiculous. Then calm down a bit and the ride is brilliant, especially with the air suspension: I've never had a complaint from my wife who hates 'hard' handling cars. Rear wheel steer is also excellent imo.
    Sport sound is a total extra and gives you a bit of aural feedback, but does get annoying on long journeys. At least you can turn it off.
    The entertainment (PCM), is easy to use and intuitive and you don't notice the lack of buttons because you just don't need to do much in the car and Wireless CarPlay integration has been flawless for me.
    The regen being on is simply not needed at all. The car is much more efficient in the standard (or range), mode that decouples the motors when not accelerating. If you are on the flat or a slight downhill it just cruises and will speed up giving you the option to add a bit of brake-pedal based regen if needed to keep speed lower. This is something that most reviewers haven't managed to understand or take advantage of and they really need to pick up on it and test it properly.

    • @PeteThx
      @PeteThx Год назад +1

      I test drove a Taycan Cross Turismo 4 (not the 4s) and I really wanted to like it, particularly having read and watched so many reviews, however the 2 things I couldn’t get my head around were :-
      1) It didn’t feel that responsively instantly, if I hit the accelerator hard, there was a pause as it downshifted then went, but felt to me like a definite pause, but perhaps this was because the 4 is too slow ?
      2) I initially drove it with the regen off (I assume standard setting?) but I did find as I came off the accelerator the car kept going with inertia and I found I was getting nearer to things ahead than I intended too! … leading to more pronounced braking being required. Where as the regen helped this a little. But overall it seemed like the accelerator pedal had a fairly long travel required to get some response, then the inertia of no engine braking meant I’d need to then brake harder, so it felt harder to balance the response and drive with just the accelerator during normal fast driving
      Then after the test drive, I jumped back in my Golf R, and immediately thought it as far more instantly responsive (and needed a lot less throttle input), also being smaller it felt easier to chuck around, and I ended up thinking is the Taycan really worth 50K more than my current car ?
      Appreciate any comments / thoughts from people that have driven one for longer or made comparisons to other ICE cars.
      Anyway I was wondering, if anyone else found the same ? did I not test drive for long enough, or is the 4S the minimum for a more responsive drive. I test drove on dual carriage way for 5 miles, then a country lane for a bit too. The handling was great, but I did think the chuckability was less than my Golf R and steering was quite weighty.

    • @kempez
      @kempez Год назад

      @@PeteThx For a start I guess it would be useful to know which mode you were in? Comfort mode doesn't hold the car near where the best acceleration will get you. Sport and Sports Plus will get you there.
      Then this also means if you are driving quickly, the Sports Plus mode adds some engine regen which gives you some speed retardation. Note that the Taycan is designed specifically to regen mostly on the brakes though, so 90% of 'braking' is engin regen.
      The weight of the steering on the Porsche is deliberately heavier than cars like an R (or an S3/RS3 that I've had). This means when it's weighted up you can actually feel what is going on rather than the slightly more inert feeling of the R/S3/RS3 (having driven or owned all 3 and owning a Taycan).
      The Taycan without the performance battery should still be pretty rapid, but yeah they aren't the fastest cars out there.
      Leaving the regen off means you can cruise for a long time on the flat without requiring acceleration and I've found it's easily the best way to drive a Taycan if you want to get as much range as you can. But then you use the brakes carefully to regen either on downhills, or to slow down and gain more range.
      Overall I'd be surprised if the R wasn't relatively close in speed to a Taycan generally, but in terms of steering and feel: I personally think the Taycan is a long way ahead of the cars mentioned earlier. Also worth trying them on a track with an instructor, as they will show you how nice the chassis is and where you can 'play' with the car.

    • @PeteThx
      @PeteThx Год назад +2

      @@kempez Thanks for your reply - interesting.
      I drove the 4 in Normal Mode initially then Sport mode for a while, it did have the Performance Battery but was just the 4 Cross Turismo spec.
      With my R, I generally drive it in Normal Mode and save the Sport for more occasional use, so I was trying a like for like comparison. I do find the Sport mode in the R is even more instantly responsive - almost to the extent of being too responsive to minor throttle inputs.
      I think I could feel that the Taycan handling was far superior to my R, but I guess I’m just used to the R being small, responsive and agile too - small often feels quick.
      Maybe a 4s would give me a better experience.

    • @kempez
      @kempez Год назад

      @@PeteThx makes sense totally. Remember that the Taycan is also designed as a luxury car too, so 'normal' mode is very pliant and soft when compared to a hot hatch (esp on air).
      But yeah comparisons and what you were feeling seem accurate. A shorter car rotates quicker and the Taycan is a very long car so has a lot more stability inherently, albeit using Sports Plus and putting some speed on it can get quite playful (maybe best saved for track!). I find myself constantly having to check the speed as I find you just don't feel the speed as easily because the capability of the car is so vast.
      I tested a 4S and a Turbo and I picked the Turbo, so I'm a bit of a sucker for speed (there were other factors too!). The 4S or even GTS may be worth a spin in, as they do give you a chunk more power and therefore response. But at the same time, it may be that you still want to more easily accessible and visceral experience of a hatch or another decent ICE car (I had a C63 last and the engine was EVERYTHING 😂), which is fair enough, because each to their own 👍

    Your review echoes why I decided on an ST. The only bad point I've seen in this entire review, your charger. My business fits Anderson A2's and other chargers but you'll never catch us using SY cable as it's not UV stable and breaks down over time on the outer sheath. Would much rather see EV ultra or even just NYY cable being used. Hopefully you can have your installer rectify that before the house is fully complete.

    Then requirements to have an EV:
    1. You must be rich
    2. Have a house with on drive parking or garage or apartment with private parking so you can have a fast charger to charge at home
    Alternative do as my friend does. do not drive more than 200 miles in a month that way you only need to charge once a month 😂and he does using a 3 pin plug, no fast charger needed but then again only driving that many miles no car needed. 😂

      @@Nickbaldeagle02 if you have to lease or finance a car then sorry to say you can’t afford it. The only time it makes sense to finance a car is a) you have a big successful business and the car payments are a tax write off b) opportunity costs I.e. you are better off investing the cash elsewhere that will earn you way more money than what it costs to finance the car and c) if your employer is giving you subsidy for a company car but then that depends on the tax situation. What’s wrong with buying a car for cash comfortably within your means?

    Horrible decision to EV the 718. The lightest, most tracked and track friendly car with mid-engine characteristics and handling with a manual, and Porsche says "we're going to take away all of the stuff you like so you can go faster in a straight line and don't bother trying to track it" Insane. I am sure they are going walk back after sales crater like the Taycan currently is doing, at least in the US.
