Looks like fun! I bet a lot of families will want vw e up style cars here in 5 years. Once they get their first ev they will want a second one, and realize they don't need tons of range for the 2nd and want something cheap but fun and nice.
I love the electric motor sounds as you took off from that first charging stop. I know one of the biggest complaints amongst enthusiasts moving to BEV is the loss of the “soul” of the car. That push-rod V8 roar, flat plane cranks screaming, the flat 4/6 burble from Porsche and Subaru, JDM inline 6, etc. Personally, I feel like more car companies should lean into the EV motor noise more, especially for performance cars and off-road oriented SUV’s and Trucks.
I have an air cooled flat 6 and taycan - both have soul and super fun to drive! The acceleration of an EV is just insane, no waiting, just instant go go go go!
Awesome trip video btw! And now, that the Plaid is available in Germany you need to come back and rip it. 💪 And host a meet and greet with your local followers at bk world or Zusmarshausen!
Nice video. I cruise on the autobahn at well over 120mph and still average over 400 miles to a tank on my 330i. Would like to see a Taycan vs gas / petrol Panamera alongside on the same days to see door-to-door differences in timings. I quite often do 300/400 miles per day on a road trip.
We love road tripping in our Taycan wagon. EA in the PNW has been working with no issue and always impressed with how quickly it charges at home and on the road.
Thanks Kyle! This was super informative. Been driving Tesla since 2015 and now waiting for my Tacan ST GTS. Going to follow your tips on driving hard and charging fast 🎉 (Germany 😅)
Excellent video. My wife recently did an 800-mile round trip to Scotland in her Taycan GTS. She thoroughly enjoyed driving the car, BUT, the UK's charging infrastructure was a major cause of frustration and irritation. Firstly, some of charging stations are not to easy to find - the postcode provided by the owner / operator is often some distance from the charger. On two occasions, I had to use BlackVue's cloud web viewer to access the car's dash cam and guide her to the station by phone. Secondly, 50% of the chargers she tried were broken. Thirdly, some of the charger's screens faced the sun and were incredibly hard to read. Forthly, not one of the charging stations, including Ionity, delivered anywhere near their claimed kW. Fifthly, and far worse, the charging stations at our motorway services were almost as filthy as the services themselves. The German stations shown in your video put the UK to shame. Fortunately, 95% of my wife's driving is local, so she home-charges.
Weird you had issues finding chargers as CPS (charge place Scotland) app and website showing w3w (what 3 words) location too, and it's very very accurate
Love your videos! The fact is that you rarely (if ever) talk about the cost of your frequent “fill ups.” I’m sure that all of the infrastructure in Deutschland comes at a substantial cost. Would be informative to get a general idea.
Great video. That massive charging station was awesome. Onething though, rotors don't warp on a unless they get hot enough to actually be able to change their form. They get friction variation due to lateral runout. If a rotor was truly warped you would get a vibration all the time. If it only happens when braking then it's due to the friction variation.
I am so jealous that you have great charging. In Arkansas and Oklahoma charging is horrible. I also remember like 3 years in Germany in A 911. Wonderful. I actually don't mind the slower charging mode. It stays up there until 90%.
Wow, even you confirmed that people here are pretty angry from time to time… The stretch from Frankfurt to Koblenz on the A3 is my commute route. Quite funny to see it on your channel.
Greetings from Germany! When you are in the vacinity of the Ruhrgebiet hit me up! I'm sitting right in the middle in Essen, old Caol mining city. I already drive a Renault Zoe. Nice little electric commuter car for me! Only does 22kW AC but i can charge at Work no problem :D
I have much worse experience with planner. Did less than 2k miles with Taycan, less than a month. Once it hanged: no SoC estimation at destination, no battery preconditioning at charger. After PCM reset it worked again. Another glitch: planner advised me to leave charger with no more stops to destination. Immediately after leaving the charger added me additional 6min charging stop. I stopped but charging was not started, the only way to force the car to charge was to quit planner. Love the car but it has many bugs in its software.
@@MrStian78 Disagree. Software is the same, and has bugs. The difference could be the quality of navigation and public chargers data, entering the planner into infinite loop.
The sole reason I love and in love with this is because it is fast ,I love people who works fast and who works individually, apparently Porsche is that for me,for a change in my life I look up to something 🤗🤗I hate putting role models in my life but this one is the only role model I will ever have. And too damn proud of it🤗🤗it's fast,it's more than effective and it gets shit done which is mandatory to be done what else I could ever ask for, because being effective is way more better than wasting others time or calling yourself hardworking or even calling yourself efficient,it's so idiotic to call yourself hard working when you can't do a minimum thing by yourself
Kyle good point on putting the car in battery preservation mode when charging, once I get the 2023 Ionic DC charging fixed, I'll be using exclusively 150KW chargers which is about 2C charging, also to preserve the battery pack, really what is 7 minutes per stop more time to get munchies bathroom break!
The Charging Infrastructure in germany becomes better and better. I even did not serious routplaning any more. It is not nessesary on a trip on the Autobahn anymore. Perhaps not everywhere but allmost erverywhere,
"Let's not hit it too quickly" *hit's 260 anyways* 🤣 Also very impressive experience. I live in France, and I'll soon get my Ioniq 6, that also supports 350 kW/800V and plug and charge. I can't wait to test this all out. Your videos do reassure me a bit since I will occasionnally make 1200 km roadtrips between the center of France and Holland, and I will need those Ionity chargers quite a bit. France has many Ionity stations too, but those I have seen aren't nearly as big. One question : how do you pay on the different networks ? Do you have a different card/badge for each brand? Can you pay directly with creditcard ? I have a PHEV now, so I know how it works in France (some cards/badges can be used on almost any network), but I'm not sure for other countries.
Kyle uses Plugsurfing for paying on other networks, works nearly in whole Europe in every network. I'd rather use Maingau, EnBW or Elli as they are cheaper but also work everywhere.
I love the e-up as well. I just wish it charged a bit faster. I once was charging at 23kw on a 300kw charger and then a tesla with cold battery plugged in and did 70. Literally 3 times the speed...☹️
when you do the route planning please zoom in so that we can see what you are doing but also so that we can see the software UI and how it is actually working
If you ever want to check it out again, let me know. I live about 140km from there and I want to check it out too some day. My eGolf should make it in one go :)
finally got me a Taycan loaner this weekend (RWD, big battery, Air S'pension with Rear Steer, riding on the 21" wheel option) parked in driveway now but I've been out "ripping it" (KC speak) all day. nice car, heavy AF from a Motorsports/Racing perspective, but nice. 20:39 - wait so if i charge in Sport+ it gives a different charging/cooling profile...? interesting, about to head over to the new EVGO in a few minutes. ambient temps here are in the 40's so the car's likely not that hot, but I'll see if I notice any benefits.
Man I really love the Taycan. I just wish we had cars in the SUV class with the same looks/performance and especially charging speed because the Cross Turismo is really cool but it's not something I'd feel comfortable taking off-road hahah
I thought I saw they had dismantled the pool a while back. Can’t remember who posted it. When you said you were going to see it, I thought maybe there was a new one I hadn’t heard of. Bummer.
If I have it right, Kyle posted that video some time ago, shot at the same time he shot this one (as he mentions in this video). That video about the charging station was posted immediately, but this one apparently got wait-listed in Kyle's busy schedule and just got published.
How is it that Porsche software works so well, and VW branded vehicles have such problems? VW Inc. clearly has the ability to make it work!? (Kyle!!! No chips!! 🙂🙂)
Late to the party but I've done some math for you. On the dash you could see he's done about 100km and consumption is about 1.5miles per kWh. So this comes to around 63kwh per 100km. Prices in Germany are around 0.40eur per kwh.. that's 25eur per 100km which is VERY expensive if you ask me.. a diesel / petrol sports car doesn't use as much.
@@wuchengranschiiet9992 omg yes, I think I have swapped the units somewhere and rest of calculation is then wrong. The right answer is about 40 to 41kwh per 100km. Thanks for pointing this out.
Fun, but stopping for a 15 minute charge every 50 minutes is too much. I like to cruise at 120mph on the autobahn and do a good 2-3 hour stint to cover some distance. I can do Innsbruck to Stuttgart without needing to refuel.
AFAIK plaid is on sale in Europe. I was given an opportunity to buy one at a dealer I was picking up my Model 3. Didn't take it because it's way outside my budget though.
Yeah I think you would have a helluva time trying to do this run in the USA with our crappy Fast DC charging infrastructure. Once Tesla opens up USA charging for all, should be equal to what you experienced in Germany with the Taycan.
What is funny. USA NON Tesla charging networks are owned by Euro and ChiCom companies (ownership or investment), use Eurotrash equipment. NOT American companies or gear. That seems to be forgotten by the cooing and squealing people and Kyle having their fake Os over slickster Porsche. Tesla rules… squeakers drool all over their beards.
I would be curious as to what you think the lack of charging stations in the USA is attributed to? I include Tesla as there are quite a few void areas across the country. This and the lack of non Tesla DC fast charging stations that are reliable are, in my opinion, the main reason that EVs haven't taken off more. I would love to see the infrastructure here that the EU has.
This video is like looking into a bright future. Just shows where U.S. charging infrastructure could be if govt. didn't have to pour money into so many other things. We'll eventually catch up!
When did you film this Kyle? It's winter in Germany right now the pool would be frozen over or removed until summer starts in June again. Very confused, unless this has been waiting for editing to be completed. This looks like you filmed it in summer. Ionity isn't perfect, you were just lucky, they use Tritium hardware which is almost as bad as the US hardware for reliability as Bjorn has shown more than once and ranted about as well. They need to rip and replace Tritium for Kempower, Delta or Alpitronics hardware, Tritium loves their sales but isn't much on the support/service side of the equation.
Yep, as a German EV driver I was very surprised not to see a single offline charger next to Kyle for the whole trip. From my experience 1 out of 4 is almost always broken at Ionity 😢 Even E-Off was On, so he really got lucky 😂 Usually you would rely on EnBW (preferably the large parks off the Autobahn), Aral and Fastned. All of them use Alpitronic. Of course this is different in other countries with other pricing and competition.

spoiler: it cant.
1:20:30 "may drive not too quickly".... proceeds with 270km/h on the Autobahn 🤣
I just love you and your humor Kyle 😂
Awesome trip video btw! And now, that the Plaid is available in Germany you need to come back and rip it. 💪 And host a meet and greet with your local followers at bk world or Zusmarshausen!
Nice video. I cruise on the autobahn at well over 120mph and still average over 400 miles to a tank on my
330i. Would like to see a Taycan vs gas / petrol Panamera alongside on the same days to see door-to-door differences in timings. I quite often do 300/400 miles per day on a road trip.
This was an awesome video. Thanks. It might also help due to the fact this is my favorite car.
We love road tripping in our Taycan wagon. EA in the PNW has been working with no issue and always impressed with how quickly it charges at home and on the road.
Awesome! Love your Europe Taycan road trips. Greetings from Sweden!
A design masterpiece.
Adrenalin rising just looking @ it 🇰🇪.
We had our accommodation in Hilden when we were at Messe Düsseldorf back in 2006 or 2007 🙂
This seems to be a great video again ;-)
Weird you had issues finding chargers as CPS (charge place Scotland) app and website showing w3w (what 3 words) location too, and it's very very accurate
this is the first video of you i have seen and I am very suprised to see my neighborhood haha. Great place to live here, especially the summers
This video is great!! It encourage me to buy myself Sport Turismo GTS
man, you have some really awesome soundtracks in every video. The car is awesome. If i could afford, I definitely have this model on top of the list.
"Kein Wasser, leichtes Eis, keine Einschlüsse" 😀
Love your videos! The fact is that you rarely (if ever) talk about the cost of your frequent “fill ups.” I’m sure that all of the infrastructure in Deutschland comes at a substantial cost. Would be informative to get a general idea.
Great video. That massive charging station was awesome. Onething though, rotors don't warp on a unless they get hot enough to actually be able to change their form. They get friction variation due to lateral runout. If a rotor was truly warped you would get a vibration all the time. If it only happens when braking then it's due to the friction variation.
Been watching all OOSR.
It's always a frustrating mess when u charge state side
Germans 🇩🇪 make it look soooo easy.

Very impressed.
Whats that flag?
Well, except for software. ID4 is exhibit one.

Germany is so beautiful thanks for this awesome roadtrip
I am so jealous that you have great charging. In Arkansas and Oklahoma charging is horrible. I also remember like 3 years in Germany in A 911. Wonderful. I actually don't mind the slower charging mode. It stays up there until 90%.
Wow, even you confirmed that people here are pretty angry from time to time…
The stretch from Frankfurt to Koblenz on the A3 is my commute route.
Quite funny to see it on your channel.
Porsche never disappoint awesome car,. thank you awesome video🤜
It is Electrify America/Canada. They install inferior hardware that requires more maintenance and they dont maintain them either.
Cross Turismo?
@@MrStian78 yes. But software wise it is not different
@@pedrotravalero4605 Cross Turismo is known for problems. I don’t know why. I have the sport sedan, zero problems after 35.000km in cold Norway.
What a car man. Wish VW added this same charging planner on ID.4 owners but understand it’s their premium service and vehicle.
Nice vid! You say there’s nothing else other than maybe a Plaid, but what about an ETron GT?
Really interesting video with my favourite EV! Thank you
Kyle good point on putting the car in battery preservation mode when charging, once I get the 2023 Ionic DC charging fixed, I'll be using exclusively 150KW chargers which is about 2C charging, also to preserve the battery pack, really what is 7 minutes per stop more time to get munchies bathroom break!
Love the car! Amazing, sporty, luxurious and efficient.
The Charging Infrastructure in germany becomes better and better. I even did not serious routplaning any more. It is not nessesary on a trip on the Autobahn anymore. Perhaps not everywhere but allmost erverywhere,
"Let's not hit it too quickly"
*hit's 260 anyways* 🤣
Also very impressive experience.
I think u adjusted to the electronic music in germany too :)
Another great video! You do know how to make 'em 🙂
Beautiful car.
I fell a sleep with this whole video playin in my ear and had a vivid dream I was in this car riding along asking a bunch of questions about Taycans 😄
Liked the video. But really do we need so much commentary? Found the charging information helpful. Glad you enjoyed the car.
20:39 - wait so if i charge in Sport+ it gives a different charging/cooling profile...? interesting, about to head over to the new EVGO in a few minutes. ambient temps here are in the 40's so the car's likely not that hot, but I'll see if I notice any benefits.
oh hell yeah, grew up in the Lake Constance area and ilve in Cologne now, so this is all my hood ;-)

The electric Porsche Macan is coming next year. Probably not as fast as the Taycan but it will have the same 800V charging system.
@@lukasweishaupt2708 and it will charge even faster
This kind of looks/performance is pretty much the opposite of what an SUV is.
@@RichardHale-wc1vp You know, I felt like it was Kyle, but figured I had to be wrong. The timeline thing didn’t cross my mind.
How is it that Porsche software works so well, and VW branded vehicles have such problems? VW Inc. clearly has the ability to make it work!?
(Kyle!!! No chips!! 🙂🙂)
I simply love that Porsche continues to use Turbo in their naming configuration.
great video- etron 55 charges fast to 100% - i got 50kw at 99%
16 - 47% in 6 minutes is just insane. That is one glorious charge rate.
only 120km at 50%? wow thats low....but i'm curious, how much do you pay at the charging station each time?
Late to the party but I've done some math for you.
On the dash you could see he's done about 100km and consumption is about 1.5miles per kWh. So this comes to around 63kwh per 100km. Prices in Germany are around 0.40eur per kwh.. that's 25eur per 100km which is VERY expensive if you ask me.. a diesel / petrol sports car doesn't use as much.
@@UpsetPulseYou miscalculated. His consumption was like 39kwh/100km which equates to 15€/100km which is completely fine for doing these speeds.
@@wuchengranschiiet9992 omg yes, I think I have swapped the units somewhere and rest of calculation is then wrong. The right answer is about 40 to 41kwh per 100km. Thanks for pointing this out.
Amazing video. Hopefully we can get these seamless dc fast charging in US someday.
Nice Video Kyle. Can‘t wait for a comparison with the Plaid in Germany.
I love your videos.Thank you 😊
I live in England could you do a road trip in England 🇬🇧 😀 , l love your channel great viewing 👍
Well done Kyle! You shall be an Honorary German by now!
Fun, but stopping for a 15 minute charge every 50 minutes is too much. I like to cruise at 120mph on the autobahn and do a good 2-3 hour stint to cover some distance. I can do Innsbruck to Stuttgart without needing to refuel.
I was stationed at Camp Hohenfels, Germany back in the 1990's.
Such a good looking car!
I love this car it might not be a Tesla but that speed and fast charging wins the show and looks like a dream to drive.
It has the name but my Kia EV6 pulls 230kw and is 1/3rd of the price as the Porsche.
Good to see working Tritium 350kW chargers.. both in the normal format and the special Ionity format.
Yeah, those Tritium ones on Ionity break often too. Ionity simply repairs them very frequently and fast. ;)
Americans love their gas cars. They are not as welcoming and progressive of change than Europeans. Probably education to be honest.
Plaids are on sale in europe, the first ones got delivered a couple weeks ago
Hay! What's the name of the track playing at 53 mins? You should put the track titles in the description. Cheers
This video is like looking into a bright future. Just shows where U.S. charging infrastructure could be if govt. didn't have to pour money into so many other things. We'll eventually catch up!
This car seems so much better than any Tesla.
Why do you always take the truck lane at the gas station?
not sure when this was filmed, but Plaid have been on sale in germany since end of december
Such a beautiful car to look at .
From my experience 1 out of 4 is almost always broken at Ionity 😢
Even E-Off was On, so he really got lucky 😂
Usually you would rely on EnBW (preferably the large parks off the Autobahn), Aral and Fastned. All of them use Alpitronic. Of course this is different in other countries with other pricing and competition.
This was filmed on August 29th, you can see the date when he uploads the review in Hilden.
where is the plaid vs taycan at Germany. Waiting for that vid...
When was this vid shot, because it is winter now. No shorts and green trees.
It’s not a turtle it’s a tortoise! Nice video 😂
