  • The Drill I use for everyone from Beginners to Advanced. Build Strength, Control and Balance using the Shoulder Position. Learn how to correctly use the Toe Pull Drill against the wall to control the under balance. Then when freestanding use the same position to increase the kick up catch consistency and rebalance control.

    You sir are a saint, I have the strength to do handstand pushups and control the overbalance
    but I didn't know what I was doing wrong to stop falling in the underbalance until I literally tried this drill
    right after watching and I gained an understanding of what my shoulders were doing do to prevent me from falling in the underbalance.
    I give my thanks to you for this revelation.

    Great video Paul thanks, I’m just at the point where I can hold a fairly straight handstand for 15-20 secs but am trying to push up into holding a straighter line. I’ve also tried the shoulders forward bit to try and work towards hand stand push ups but I fall out almost immediately so this wall drill looks ideal! Nice one mate!

    • @PaulTwyman
      @PaulTwyman  Год назад

      Sounds good! Be careful when you’re freestanding that you’re not pushing outside your current flexibility. That’s very common and can cause you to fall

    leaning from the hips is also a way to rebalance

    • @PaulTwyman

    I've been thinking about how one can get a better control of the shoulder flexion movement for this and think that practising lifting the arms in a prone hollow body position on the floor while maintaining muscle contraction in the entire chain may help too.

    • @PaulTwyman
      @PaulTwyman  Год назад

      Yeah that could work, I prefer to use closed chain movements where possible, as close to the real thing as possible. Down dog to Planche (on tip toes) is a good one

    Your videos are amazing. I finally realize the feeling about control balance by shoulder lean and wrist push, but those practices also cause a lot of pressure on my shoulder and wrist. I even can't sleep at the night after exercise. Is any suggestion that can let me train more often and painless?

    • @PaulTwyman
      @PaulTwyman  Год назад +1

      Thank you! Decrease volume and intensity. Build the time and exercises slowly. Work on mobility of the thoracic, shoulders, hips etc (hanging daily works wonders!). Hope that helps

    @gantz0949 Год назад

    Hey Paul quick question so should a beginner very weak in this position start with hands closer to wall and then as I get stronger and am able to hold the position move the hands out more?

    • @PaulTwyman
      @PaulTwyman  Год назад

      yes but be careful you don't go too close as things will happen fast and you can over balance before the catch. Pre requisites would be a strong chest to wall handstand hold 30 sec +

  • @akuto2905
    @akuto2905 Год назад

    Hi how do you keep yourself from falling forwards ? I keep on falling forwards when I try to push up to handstand after pulling myself off the wall

    • @PaulTwyman
      @PaulTwyman  Год назад

      You are either using too much momentum or positioning the handstand to far up and over. Try pulling less and/or aim to position the handstand slightly leaning back to the wall

    What kind of sets and reps would you do for this, Paul?

    • @PaulTwyman
      @PaulTwyman  Год назад

      If you’re learning the pull from the wall do around 3 sets of 5-8 reps. If you do the reps well already, do pull to short holds in the handstand
