Learning how to handstand has been a lesson in failure for me, I'm a few days short of completing 365 days of continuous HS practice and can maybe balance freestanding for 20secs 1 attempt out of 10.

I underestimated this skill so much, I though it would take me like 1 week and I'm in the fourth month now, I can balance for 20s if I kickup right, but that's like 1 out of 30 tries, it's still fun to practice though, so I'm not worried

@@jakev0895 I didn't dedicate that much time to it. Maybe like 10 min after every workout. You progress as you keep doing it. I used to a wall when first learning my first handstand pushup. I peaked at doing about 17 handstand pushups, but haven't been training in that area as much so I can probably only do like 8-10. Just keep practicing and you'll get better.

Nice tips, thanks. I would add something that Tapp Bros emphasise (which is implied by what you taught here, but not stated directly...): focus on keeping your weight centered on the area of your palms under your knuckles -- leaves you with ability to press one way or the other (fingertips or heel of palm) around that balance point. Very much like your 2nd corrective balance approach by opening/closing shoulders (planche movement with angle of arms to upper body) -- nobody really talks about this, will give it a try. There is a guy at KTS Fitness who has got some good exercises (stomach facing wall) that include one that is a planche with arms followed by pulling the feet off the wall -- teaches muscle and coordination to pull you from falling toward your stomach side (pretty much all my balance problems involving falling in that direction)

It feels extremely similar in a way, you need to be hyper aware of where on your foot you're pushing off of and constantly changing it to maintain balance.

@@thecalisthenicssentinel8222 My typical kick ups: I underbalance (fold legs towards stomach) , overbalance (didn't dig fingers hard enough) , perfect kickup but I ruin it because I'm confused what to do from there.
By perfect kick up, I mean I'm directly in the middle of my balance. I don't do anything with my hands so I just float until I'm overbalancing. I catch myself by digging my fingers in, but end up turning it into an underbalance and my legs collapse

Its hard learning this being above 6 feet and having no gymnastic background. Insanely hard to balance.

I have to be careful in a lot of things. Many of my supporting muscles, especially around my shoulder blades, are weak and over-strain easily which knots them up causing me a lot of discomfort and sometimes even some pain if overworked too much, and that puts me out of commission for a while.

@@themaxjenkinson You do know there's like 50 different types of yoga, right? Some have nothing to do with strength and flexibility, putting pranayama over asanas. Specifically recommending "yoga" (which is actually a highly vague blanket term) doesn't tell me anything.
I don't know your credentials and you don't know my exact requirements or needs, such as if I have an injury of any kind. Acting familiar to me and telling me what I need as if you actually know is dangerous and I hope no one makes things worse for themselves by taking a random user's (stranger's) advice.
