Believe it or not, my very first guitar was a Gibson V. I'm a pilot, and have always loved airplanes, so way back when I was 18 years old and just starting to learn guitar, the Flying V was my choice because hey, it looks like an airplane! I'm 58 now and I still have that Gibson V that started my guitar journey. I love that guitar!

I practice on all of my electrics like they were V's. Kind of a classical position where the groove rests on my left leg and the neck is at a 45° angle from my hips. I think resting the guitar on our right leg is a habit we tend to develop because of acoustic guitars. I find it way more ergonomic to practice this way and feels closer to playing standing up. Try it out.

V standing up for sure, sitting maybe not. I play in classical position sitting down anyway so it's not too different, but I have to put my wrist on an uncomfortable angle to wedge the wing between my legs properly which starts to hurt after a bit.
Telecaster sitting down is perfect for me personally, Tele for anything is perfect honestly

    • @arlobrubaker

  • @shawnstarks1743
    @shawnstarks1743 2 года назад +17

The thing about the V is this, its awkward at first. The whole putting it between your legs thing. However, it grows on you and you get use to it and you start to like it. Then you find out you can't go back to playing another guitar shape, "that" becomes awkward. I've owned over 50 guitars in my life, all shapes strats, teles, les pauls, ml's, 335's, 175's, jazzmasters, etc. That's what happened to me. Now all I play is V's. You find out you cant live without playing a V, that's how you know its for you.

And it's only 6lbs. It was the second guitar I bought as a high schooler and has been my favorite guitar ever since.

I have one small observation about your sitting playing position:
1.- when you sit with PRS you set the guitar on your right leg
2.- when you sit with Flying V you set the guitar "technically" between your legs, however it is more close to a classical position
The PRS would be sitting on a classical position just by switching your leg, I mean, if you take the guitar and rest it on your left leg, however this position is very awkward if you dont have an actual feet support for your left leg to be a little bit rised from the floor.
I dont know if I made my self clear haha

    Pros:
    1. Easier access to highest frets.
    2. Light weight.
    3. Better vibrato.
    4. More natural holding position.
    Cons:
    1. Awkward cable plug-in.
    2. Big, heavy case makes it hard to transport the guitar.

If you look at the way Gibson played his flying v, youll see another pro.
Also, you can put it down and it doesnt fall the fook over because its not round, it has legs😁

When its between my legs it hits the chair, so I cant sit back. Uncomfy. Then it's all the way west. I have to squeeze my legs together to hold it up. It's totally lame. Gonna chop it onto an ergo😂

Hey Ben! I just found your video here while researching some "V"s... I wanted to comment on some things. 1- You have a cool musician vibe/style going! Good job on that! 2- your backround studio was cool too! 3- I enjoyed your les paul rhythm playing and the leads on your V. 4- I wanted to correct you on the idea that ITS ALL ABOUT PLAYING FAST, KICKING ASS, AND COMPETING WITH ALL THE OTHER GUITARISTS : / NO! ITS REALLY NOT! ANYONE WHO ACTS LIKE THEY BELIEVE THAT OR FEEL THAT WAY? LOOKS LIKE A BIIIIIIIIIG DICK! SO DONT DO THAT! ITS REALLY ALL ABOUT YOU! YOUR MUSICALITY, YOUR MUSICAL SENSIBILITY AND YOUR EXPRESSIVENESS ON THE INSTRUMENT! THE AUDIENCE WILL KNOW HOW WELL YOU EXPRESS YOURSELF WITHOUT SHOWING OFF! ITS ALL IN THE SOUND AND FEELINGS IN THOSE SOUNDS!!!! ( your welcome ) 4- In addition to being a serious musician myself, and music teacher ( primarily guitar ) Im also a nutritionist, fitness and health instructor/educator and loving pain in the ass! : P Trying to help people adapt a healthy lifestyle, so they have the best functionality and quality of life while they are HERE! no matter what they do with their time! SO, i noticed you are very thin, and your eyes are weak! YOU CAN IMPROVE THESE UNHEALTHY CONDITIONS AND SIDE AFFECTS OF THE UNHEALTHINESS, WITH NUTRITION! YES! LOOK INTO JUICING FOR HEALTH! AND INVEST IN A MATRICULATING JUICING MACHINE! GET SOME JUICING BOOKS AND DO SOME STUDYING! YOU WILL FIND THAT BY DRINKING FRESH CARROT JUICE AND FRESH BROCCOLI, SPINACH, KALE, COLLARD GREENS, CELERY, JUICE, THAT YOU WILL IMPROVE YOUR HEALTH! YOU WILL GAIN SOME NATURAL WEIGHT, AND YOU WILL GIVE YOUR EYES AND ALL THE EYE PARTS SUPER NUTRITION WHICH WILL INTURN STRENGTHEN ALL OF THOSE PARTS, AND GREATLY IMPROVE YOUR VISION! ( NO MATTER WHAT THE "DOCTORS" SAY! STAY AWAY FROM ANY SURGERIES! IM TELLING YOU THE TRUTH! MEDICAL DOCTORS DO NOT STUDY OR LEARN NUTRITION, FITNESS AND HEALTH IN MEDICAL SCHOOL! THEY STUDY MEDICINE, CHEMICALS, SURGERIES AND HOW TO EFFECTIVELY RIGHT UNNECESSARY AND HARMFUL PRESCRIPTIONS! IT IS AN INDU$TRY! DO THE RESEARCH! ANYWAY, YOU SEEM TO BE AN EXCELLENT AND PASSIONATE MUSICIAN! I HOPE YOU DEVELOP A STYLE OF YOUR OWN AND LEAVE YOUR MUSICAL MARK! ALL THE BEST! ( AND DONT FORGET ABOUT JESUS! GIVE HIM A CHANCE TO ENLIGHTEN YOU CORRECTLY! HE IS ALL ABOUT THE TRUTH! THE OTHER GUY IS ALL ABOUT DECEPTION! ) REMEMBER THAT! VERY IMPORTANT! FOR ALL OF LIFE!
