Great to see a comprehensive piece on the update and beautiful footage that is very much what the c70 is all about. Also it’s great to extend these reviews to post and grading. As fantastic as other posts by our usual RUclips favourites may be, many ignore this essential part of the process. Likewise great to see you posting the camera files for use. Essential though again often overlooked by many. Maybe it’s just me but it seems like the quality of the posts recently have been excellent and it feels like the team have found a sweet spot. These are simply perfect short pieces that have a lovely positive and knowing vibe. Without being overly technical or pushing the product in any way, they inspire getting out and shooting. Super well done to all the team and keep the great work up. And thank you.
amazing in depth explanation of the new firmware! I also wonder if there's any significant difference between 12 bit vs 10 bit colour depth. It might be cool to see a detailed video about this topic! Also compared to 14bit/16bit?? Thank you!
Anymore i really just don’t see differences big enough in the image to justify going one way or the other within the prosumer market. A7S3, BMPCC6K, Komodo, etc. i don’t really see a difference until Red Raptor, Alexa, Venice level. It’s just features beyond that. The one that always surprised me most though was the 5D3 magic lantern 14-bit raw image. Absolutely incredible
Each has different charecteristics and benefits, but yeah feature set and workflow are big differentiations between them! It's such an amazing time to be a filmmaker. Jake
So if you had to summarize some of the trade-offs of shooting raw - 1) no 120fps 2) no digital IS 3) slightly more taxing on NLE. Otherwise all the same functions as shooting 10bit?
I've been looking for a camera that would be my next choice to upgrade to. And I think the C70 will be that camera. Of course, I had to visit CVP to get the information I needed to make this decision. Thanks for your clear and easy to understand explanation of the RAW update.
so, are you saying you turned the noise reduction settings on during your XF-AVC tests? That's why it performed better in the shadows? As default the camera applies no noise reduction, even in XF-AVC, right? You have to specify it, correct? What amount did you have the noise reduction parameters set to?
Plus the option to shoot RAW in those Frame & Interval Recording Modes. And RAW when capturing stills. I really don't need the high resoltution stills coming out of a R5C and 9MP is plenty for on-screen, even for printing out a 6x4" picture. So if Canon would fix that I'll be happy.
So how does the C70 compares to the R5C now? Kinda feel sad it doesn’t have 8k (also for oversampled 4k) I shoot both photo and video and trying to decide if i should buy a R5 + C70 or just a R5C… (So go hybrid)
When shooting raw do you still need to shoot at iso 800? when you select extended iso you can shoot at iso 100 but im not sure if you lose dynamic range that way in raw?
Great video as always! If possible, would be great if you could compare the differences between raw ST and LT to understand how much difference there is in color rendition recovering the highlights or heavily lifting the shadows. Also wondering if there would be a difference in editing performance chosing one format over the other Personally I see the Lt raw as the ideal replacement for the XF-AVC in many situations, being lighter and able to shoot up to 60p (plus I imagine the audio would be always captured in 24 bits, something the H264/265 codecs apart the XF-AVC won't allow) ;)
We actually shot our latitude tests in lt and st. Check out the Vimeo link in the description. Editing performance seemed somewhat similar. Thanks for watching, Jake
@@CVPTV Thanks again! I'm sure there's a difference but I couldn't spot even on Vimeo from my device, so far I think Raw Lt eventually would be the way to go for me ; )
The firmware update/ shooting in RAW LT seems to have affected the autofocus significantly. It doesn't autofocus anymore unless I continually press the 10 button. Do you know anything about this? Is there a workaround to allow the autofocus to work normally in RAW LT mode?
This is a great overview, as always, top-notch presentation and that gorgeous footage! I have a totally newbie question and hopefully someone here can assist me? I have the C70 and love that I can generate proxies. However, I'm a little confused as to how to use them together with the RAW footage in a timeline in DR. My Mac Studio (Max) plays the RAW pretty well until I add some NR, which is to be expected as it is taxing on any machine. I'd like to use proxies and I was able to link proxies and toggle them on/off (btw, I love that DR 18 beta now uses a proxies icon when using proxies!). So this is my question: when using proxies, are you NOT supposed to use the RAW settings? If I tweak temp on the RAW file with proxies off I see the changes, but when I turn the proxies off I don't see changes. Something tells me that I may be missing something obvious here or I'm just not so well-versed on how RAW works in a timeline? Please advice if anyone can! And thanks again for another great video!
*How I wish there was a 6K or 8K version of this excellent camera ! 4K is a delivery format, and I have no further use for another 4K resolution only production camera.*

It will work in Resolve no issues, what I am talking about there is the decode quality. "Choosing the correct decode quality is important as there is a big difference between using Resolve's debayer and Canon’s. I would suggest using Canon’s to get it looking similar to the debayer being used in the camera.
