My first MPC was a 1000 too, and I currently have a 2500 and a 4000 as far as the older MPCs go. The 2500 (and the 1000) is a beast with JJOS2XL!!! I bought the 2500 because I wanted more midi I/O and analog I/O for tracking out drums. Some of my buttons are in need of attention, and the rotatary jog wheel encoder on the 2500 is the WORST of all MPCs I've touched. Mine meed to be replaced. Other than that, it's a great machine. I've made so many beats with it, and the JJ operating system workflow is amazing! I use my MPC mainly for drums along with other hardware midi synths for other sounds/instruments.
BTW, DANG!!! Your 1000 is pretty slick!!! How the heck were you able to do the battery upgrade? I didn't even know that was possible. I just recently traded my MPC One toward the purchase of a new MPC KEY-37 a week ago. Yes, I took mine out of the box! With that said if I could do a battery upgrade on that, rhat would be dope. Even connecting it to an external power bank and having the power bank attached to the MPC would also be a nice option.

Ok man... you got all the mpcs time to start getting all the beat/sampler/sequencer machines. SP 202, Ensoniq Mirage 8bit (Rack), Yamaha SU700, SP1200, you can't stop now I'm living Vicariously through you and your Personal Museum!! 🙃🤙💪
I can't. I'm too old to be figuring out the different workflows. I've had the ASR-X twenty years ago. Relearning this machine is driving me crazy. The SP 404 drove me crazy. I don't have the patience anymore. All the MPCs work the same, the other beat machines/groove boxes, not so much. I want to get the Isla 2400, or the Rossum Sp, but thinking about learning the in and outs gives me the shakes. I don't have the time anymore.
Dope review! 2500 is still my favorite, love the look of it too.

I bought mines two years, I love it with the JJOS. Just received today the new PCB boards for the 1000 from mpc stuff. I bought the 1000 two years ago as well, built like tanks.

i brought a dj controller back in 2016 from guitar center used section when I say the whole thing looked like someone dropped it from the 10th floor, I got my money back and never bought from the used section since then

I missed out on a 2500 just before xmas. My 2000XL had been dormant for a couple of years and it was so tempting to get the 2500 but by the time I went for it someone else had beat me to it so it wasn't meant to be. I've got my XL up and running again so I'm good now but the 2500 is great with it's eight outputs so it's a professional machine and you don't really need to use the internal effects, although it's nice to have.
I personally like the 2500 more. I know a lot of people don't use the grid edit but I love it. But, you can't go wrong with any of the MPCs.

2000XL over this junk. I met Alchemist and he told me Akai gsve him the 2500 for free on the condition that he said the catch phrase, its his favourite MPC, he said he used Ensoniq so it was his only MPC so he didnt think the catch phrase was dishonest, this was clearly inmusic attempting to discredit Akai. He said they promised him a lot of deals later that they never came through on and that the 2500 broke so many times that it cost him 5 times what just buying a real MPC would of cost.

I'd take a 2000XL, better build quality, better ergonomics (pads on the right), the 2500 has a wealth feature but I'd rather work under restriction. Still VERY dope though. :)
