You can. Before breaking the gate open, go over to the roof and find the coordinates of where the guard spawns. Once Murray reaches that guard, quickly teleport up there and defeat it, then teleport back to Murray. You'd have to be quick, and it would probably require pausing the emulation so you'd have enough time to input the coordinates.
Obviously, you can with hacks, I even tried (and the guard is pretty big when you're around it), but I wanted to show "can you beat it without hacks when you're with Murray" it's true, it's a little bit confusing considering you only can made this with hacks
This would’ve been a much cooler level if you could run alongside Murray. Also could’ve been a good narrative foreshadowing for how Murray matured in future Sly games.

You did hack the game to get down there, so without hacks or the turret Murray wouldn't be able to get past the starting gate.
