Precision about the duration/timers, in fact is not exactly that (excepted for the anti grab) but I preferred to express it like that to make it more understandable

@@trewlawson5687 Pirating is an illegal practice if you're the one providing the stolen assets. (Unless you're pirating from terrible companies like EA.) And Sly wasn't having his games pirated that easily, back then.
sly only steals games from other thieves, obviously.

Well the people who made the game are ordinary people and Sly clearly says there’s no honor or fun stealing from ordinary people
I know the focus was the anti-piracy measures, but damn I can't help but notice this game still looks hella good almost 20 years later!
It really does, I think it's impressive how much the Sly game haven't aged a lot. I was playing Thieves in Time the other day on a 4K TV and it looked surprisingly good
The only time the game doesn't look good is when it zooms on other characters faces. Then you can see the jank in their facial animations that 2 and 3 did a whole lot better

I get that they want to discourage people from bootlegging the game, but also, man... The races are damn near impossible as it is. 😭😭😭

I thought the title implied that you were going to go through the anti-piracy measures in the first Sly Cooper, Sly 2 Band of Thieves, Sly 3 Honor Among Thieves, Sly Cooper Thieves in Time, and whatever Sly 5 and Sly 6 would be.
Interesting video nonetheless. Makes me wonder if the studio genuinely thought tons of pirates were looking to illegally distribute the game. I know that most studios are largely interested in protecting the first few weeks of sales from being ruined by piracy, but I think it'd be strange if hackers were seriously focused on pirating Sly Cooper over something like GTA.

I was in livestream yesterday with accidentally caugh by antipiracy measures. He didn't do that on purpose though because he didn't know, he just got modded version of the game and the game didn't recognize the code of the game anymore so it put antipiracy mode on

i would like to point out the some of these can be triggered on legit copies of the game if using cheat discs like codebreaker or gameshark
Yep! because some of codebreaker/gameshark cheats directly change how works the code of the game

I didn't know there was a Sly 5 and 6
Is there a way to get around this, my DVD is dead and I am playing from an HDD and it triggers the anti grab thing.
i remember when i was having Ratchet and clank up your arsenal disc, this game was in the Ratchet and Clank game file. this is just happened on 2014

Is there a way to play this in backup copy without this happening?
I got the iso from my original disk because the disk has a lot of scratches to the point it barely plays at all.
Wanting to know if there’s another way with playing the legitimate console.
This won't affect most people. This would mostly be for bootleg copies from back in the day but you're probably fine to play whatever ISO you happen to find/make without this stuff happening.

when would this happen? would emulation cause this to occur or just when there is a faulty checksum?
If the game finds a difference in the code, I'm unsure if the emulation can cause it
@@meos3446 So I'm assuming say if someone were to use GameShark for the PS2 with this game, it would trigger those AP detections.

The real question is does Sly 2/3/4 have anti-piracy measures?
I'm not sure, if there any, the way to access it is different than sly 1
Do these measures go into effect if you install the game on a PS2 hard drive and run it through OPL?

I can confirm it does. You gotta turn on mode 6 to disable the anti-piracy measures.
@@death256p Just had this, bottles dissappearing and not being able to jump and grab. Can confirm turning on mode 6 works great!

@@death256p Thanks, I was playing the game for the first time on my PS2 with OPL and knew something was fishy. Funny thing trying to google this I stumbled on some forum posts from 2002 where people would get this randomly and trying to get help and nobody knew what was going on. Lmao

Normally, the measures are not used in pcsx2
I know this goes beyond what the video covers, but were these measures even necessary? With digital distribution, piracy is much more rampant these days. But then? I can’t see too many people itching to make illegal copies of Sly Cooper for the PS2.
Well yeah, people would try to make copies and sell them. If they weren't 1:1 then this will happen. Modded consoles were a lot more common than you seem to think.
Like.. yeah? South America is flooded with piracy in the ps2 to this day.
I've downloaded the iso and was trying to play it on opl at my ps2 with a pendrive. It activate the antipiracy and I can't progress the game. Do you know any way that I can remove this?

@CalNotNice opl has a series of compatibility modes, you might need to enable a few to make a game playable
On the OPL, even if you check mode 6 WITH another mode, like mode 4 for skipping videos, the anti piracy measures overides mode 6 and fks you game
I own a legit copy of the game but I’m playing on emulator. How can I legitimize my ISO?
Normally, by default it should work
Meos on the emulator I’m stuck with the fire wall in that furnace toward the end of your video. I’ve tried multiple BIOS and ISOs and nothing is working.. really sucks lol

Ahh the irony. This now happens to me when I try play my legit copy in PCSX2 but nobody else seemed to have the problem because they're all using pirated downloads. Similar issue with the original Spyro.

I saw your blur patch and thought you must have done something to bypass it to make that work so I applied that and my non-interlace patch and it works great now so thanks.

I never heard of this game series before but it is one of the many Playstation 1 and 2 games that have anti-piracy measures that make you cringe
