Therapist here its called a W sit. She is likely has the room in her hips and her knees have the flexibility and range of motion to tolerate this. If you try it and its painful don't do it or maybe do a modified version. Some adults are still able to do this which is impressive!

Well said. It's the theory of "if I could do it yesterday, I can do it today". AND the more you do something the more you CAN do it.

I had no mobility when I started yoga. Mom had MBP so I wasn't allowed to do sports or participate in PE as a kid & put on meds that I did not need. It's extremely cathartic for me to move my body now. I'm 37, started about 7 years ago & also lift/run/cycle with my yoga. Point is: when I started, I couldn't even do pigeon pose & it was BEYOND intense. I now can keep my front leg parallel to front of mat & also do full mermaid, etc. Practice practice practice but don't ignore"bad"pain! Discomfort is okay within reason, it's how we grow

I can still like that and bring my thigh/calf angle at 90 degrees but my external rotation is terrible! External rotation is much more needed than internal rotation in sports than internal so to me, that's actually a deficit

You guys in the comments making self deprecating jokes about not being able to do it are so extra. If you want better for yourself then make the intention and every night stretch your body. It’s not that hard. And the more you do it you will be able to do this no matter your age.

Riiight... "not that hard." Ah yes, let's not take into account chronic illnesses or just general age pain. Okay then. Tell my connective tissue disorder it's not that hard. Some people are naturally flexible, some can easily become flexible, and for others it is VERY hard!! Sometimes even impossible without extreme pain. Please don't assume everyone's body is the same.
