Thanks that’s very humbling considering that was my first experience with aftermarket brushless systems. It makes me want to do a current day update. I’m finding the next video upload comparing the Mamba X6s with the TP4070cm with data logs and then with the mamba x8s once it arrives.

So here’s the updated verdict: 16T pinion obviously not going to cut it but it’s what I had at the time. I ran a 21T pinion on 6s and topped out at mid 60mph. Then I ran a 27T pinion on 6s and topped out at 75mph. This is still not equivalent to the stock motor and speed run pinion of 27T, the 1717-1650kv requires a pinion that is 5 teeth higher to be equal ratio to the stock 2050kv on 27T. So if you put a 32T pinion on the 1717-1650kv motor/esc combo with the same 6s lipos it will run about 90mph with more efficiency, more run time and noooo cutting off. However I did not run a 32T pinion, I only ran up to a 27T pinion BUT.., I did buy a MMX8S esc and I ran that on 8s with the 1717-1650kv on a 27T pinion and I’m now running in the mid 90’s mph. So “YES” the 1717 6s combo ISSS way better than the stock 6s system AND going 8s with the 1717 motor is farrrr superior!

The first video I only had a 16 tooth pinion so that was under geared obviously. Upgrading the esc/motor let me reach 70mph 6s on a 21 pin, still under geared.. Then 83mph on a 27pin 6s which is still mild then 93mph on 8s. I haven’t ran since starting the Skyline 7 months ago and I’m close to completion. It’s running a 4070cm 2200kv sooo.., you hear a lot about the 4070 series but you don’t hear the specifics so I’ll be one of the few ppl sharing the facts after research and hands on, rather than videoing during first impressions because those bcs I don’t want to get the facts twisted again.
If you change your transmitter, stay with a spektrum, the AVC is built into the spektrum receiver. AVC is better for drifting than a aftermarket gyro. I got a flysky NB4 that's super nice, but uses different receiver. AVC will hold the wheels pointing in the direction of travel, aftermarket gyro will briefly turn wheels in direction of travel and then return to straight. Hope that makes sense, I smoked my breakfast today lol
Yea it’s the stock spectrum rx/tx. I don’t recall everything that I did in that video but I do know the most important thing I wanted to see was how much better the car would handle with the castle combo. Now that the vehicle isn’t cogging at low rpm or high heat like before, it self corrects easier and maintains traction better under acceleration. In this video it ran sensorless bcs I did not use the correct harness. So it was not sensored even tho I thought it was.
It really is I love it! Now that I’ve been working with these products long enough I understand them much better. On the SkyRider build I’m debating whether the MMX8S will be just fine with the TP4070-cm 2200kv, or if it’s going to require the xlx2. Gearing is super low 103mph 6s / 137mph 8s. Spoiler alert lol I actually drove it with the mamba x 6s and I didn’t go full out but I did get logs and FPV. That will be in the next video which between me and you, is going to be one of the most epically fabricated video uploads I’ve ever created! I’m trying to incorporate as much special effects and sound effects as possible. It might just be a complete makeover for the Chanel in its entirety.
That 2050 motor is serious the 150 amp esc is it’s weak point when it’s comes to racing . But if you turn the timing up on the spectrum combo . You’ll hear the 2050kv motor sing

… so with the X series sensor wire (which still had to buy) the car/motor begins to roll super clean and accelerate with much more precision and the brakes are almost like hydraulic disc brakes compared to the spectrum esc. If your bashing you don’t need to be sensor at all bcs it’s still so much smoother than any other esc that you’ll think it actually is sensored. I’d only suggest sensor for high grip conditions so you can “feel” the vehicle and drive with way more control. I did a recent video of checking the Temps on the setup while doing medium driving for 30 minutes. Bcs it’s the Felony and can do more than what the Monster X can afford, I’m looking into a MMX8s to push my 1650kv and drop the monster x in my rc8.2e. I’d imagine getting the Monster-X instead of the previous model monster bcs the monster X8s has more features and it’s not that much more.

Yea nice., finding a good location is difficult lol.. so this system is 6s, it’s just referred to as the “extreme”… the mamba monster x 8s is 8 obviously which I did switch to after a few weeks so I’m on MMX8 now… but back to the MMX6, it is a 200 AMP esc. You just have to put it under enough load to see 200 amps on data logs… compared to the Felony stock system, you’ll want to use a 21T pinion for bash and it’ll hit about 64mph, with a 27T pinion your 75 mph and you can still bash some if you have good fans. Going up to a 32T pinion on the castle combo will be equivalent “speed run” pinion as the 27T was to the stock setup. So that’s like 100mph 6s… in comparison keeping the gearing ratio relative to the kv of either motor, making the change you’ll gain 20 mph overall and legit double the power and the response is very crispy and clean especially the brakes. Running sensor I say is a must bcs once your motor gets hot, the smart sense will prevent cogging. Plus it’s just a great feeling in general knowing that the sensored feature only kicks in at a dead stop acceleration and turns to non sensored once it’s moving so there’s no overheating. You won’t see 200 amps on that esc unless you run a pinion of a 1:1 ratio. So with GOOD batteries you can still rock that esc, it just gets hot easy on 27T pinion. Like I said I went to MMX8S but.,,,, I STILL have not even seen 200 amps on my data logs. So with that said, it takes a lot to reach 200 amps so the mmx6 will do fine.

I’ve run tests like your doing and I noticed that my motor/s gave me the same exact top speeds with the mmx6 and the mmx8 speed controls. I thought the mmx8 would provide more power but the only thing that changed was that there was less ripple (less volt sagging) with the mmx8 esc. Even the amount of amps from the data logs were exactly the same. The ONLY time that I could confirm when an ESC gave better performance was on my two most recent driving videos… I have this insane TP-4070cm 2200kv motor that draws 10 amps JUST TO GET THE CAR ROLLING OUT OF NEUTRAL… sooo I first tried it on the mmx6 and then on the mmx8. To be fair I keep it 6s for the first run with the mmx8. Well guess what… the amp draw was still the same and the top max speed was also capped at 72mph.. The noticeable difference was that the mmx8 got to 72 mph MUCH EASIER and swiftly vs the mmx6 was suffering from too much ripple which is when the factory capacitor packs that are built into the esc are fully drained and cannot recharge fast enough bcs the motor pulls more current and at a faster rate than the caps are able to recharge at. So at this point, 1 volt ripple means that your ESC is starving by 1 volt, and I had about 3.75 volts ripple. So when I PUNCH the mmx6 with that motor, you can hear and see the car trying to go faster, but it’s kind of tapped out before reaching top end. But with the mmx8, the motor can eat all it wants! So my answer is…. The esc is never too big for a motor, but the motor COULD be too big for an esc. Unlike a car amplifier and a subwoofer.. the amp will push the speaker beyond its limits, BUT with a motor and esc, the esc does NOT PUSH. Instead the motor only takes what it needs. The only thing that can harm a motor is too much heat. You can push 8s power into a 6s motor and it will work great! The only problem is that you should only do that for short intervals and don’t over gear it or use it in a really heavy rc vehicle. Was I able to answer more less what you were asking?🤔

Awe it’s been so long I don’t remember everything I said in the video back then.. but I did notice something new on the limitless… They have different motor plates. The limitless’s motor plate puts the motor further out for larger pinions so I had to buy a Felony motor plate for the Limitless in order to accommodate my preferred gear ratio. So I’ll mention that and show them side by side on the following video. What setup were you working with at the time?
Alright you got Creed on your home page, I was just rocking out to the human clay album this week. I skipped school and stayed home to build the RC10T3 truck when it was delivered and I built it to the album that also had come out. The stock spektrum motor and esc was originally a 6s system that comes RTR. Right now however I do have a MMX8S esc instead of the MX6s esc and I have a custom throttle curve that I always copy and paste to any new esc that I buy. In THIS video… no I did not make any adjustments to the esc on castlelink. I used the regular throttle curve which is just a linear 45° curve. In THIS video, everything was 6s only.
@@tedshickell7315 …. The punch setting and the brake setting on the spektrum 8s esc had the punch and break all the way up and timing on zero. The Kraton 8s motor that came with it was installed on the Felony but it sucked on 6s! It was horrible! Mayyyyybe on 8s it would be better but I would not recommend it because the castle MMX8S on 6s is amazing no matter what kv it is. I just did not go into detail about that in this video because I don’t want to steer ppl in that direction, it sucked.
Perhaps you haven’t seen all my vids lol 😎.., this was just with the 16 Pinion so it wasn’t going to be fast. Currently with the mmx8 and 27 pinion hit 92 mph with more left in it. I also have two more surprises coming up. I just have not made content recently bcs I’m waiting on some parts…
Right now but just switched to the mamba monster X 8S and yes I’m still running the 1717/1650kv on 21T… My most recent video is running the MMX8S on two 3s Lipo getting a feel for the new ESC.
If you mean the sensor harness.. yes the white wire is reversed with the black wire next to it for all X series esc. My problem was that I was using the wrong sensor harness.. the harness I used was 1 pin short. I purchased the correct harness and it did have its white wire reversed by factory and it also worked for my monster X8s.
I keep re-writing my reply bcs I end up getting too technical with hp vs torque in relation to actual engines since it looks like you also into drag. I got a build of my own so I can relate. Yea higher kv equals higher rpm but that’s not the only way to go about it imo. Do you think that the 6s spektrum 2050kv combo is a overall better combo than the castle mamba monsterX and 1717 1650kv combo?
… the castle 1718-1650kv is the universal go-to motor for any upgrade. Weather you use a castle mamba monster X 8s or the mamba X 6s, the 1718-1650kv is still the go to motor. It will out perform the stock 2050kv motor by a LONG SHOT! The stock motor may have an extra 1000kv than the 1717-1650kv but on 6s with a 27 tooth pinion, the stock motor will run 80mph and it will get very hot and it will cogg like hell once it gets hot, whereas the 1717-1650kv on the same 27 pinion and 6s will STILL hit 80mph and it will get there FASTER and it will run cooler and most importantly it runs much smoother and more precise. Remember that the 1717 can ALSO run sensor and can ALSO run on 8s! So on that 27 pinion on 8s your talking 95mph and that is STILL considered “under geared” because remember it’s 1000kv less than the stock 2050kv so from a 27 tooth pinion, you still have room to gear up if you want. After this video, my 27T pinion came in my MMX8s came in. So my felony runs mid 90’s with the 1717-1650kv on 8s. I speed run it and I drift it and drive just like I always have and I get the same runtime weather it’s 6s or 8s. I have two 40x10mm Rocket fans on the motor and it’s allllll good man I LOVE IT 🤟🤟 If you scan through my videos, you’ll find links to those rocket fans, deals for two if you shop hard. Amazon/eBay sell this cheap pair of 40x10mm fans on an aluminum motor mount that fits the stock and castle 1717 motors, it’s just $15 and it’s worth it just for the motor mount! After that I buy the Rocket fans and upgrade the fans and use the same mount. Ali express sells “40x40”mm fans, the tall boxy looking ones that everyone is using….ppl are paying $60 for a pair with a 3D printed screen, but YOU can buy the same fan, un altered or branded, just the plain 40x40mm fan with the manufacture sticker on it that shows the specs you know.., on Ali express you get that fan for under $5. Look for my video that says “Special Edition 45min video” and watch it. It’s one of the most comprehensive videos in have at the moment. The video after that is where I show the links for the Ali express high speed fans and I show them work on my video. Those two vids are pretty good. Hope all this was helpful.

You never reverse the wires you just simply change the rotation of the motor don’t care who tells you to change and swap the wires that’s first and foremost. Secondly, you talk entirely way too much during the video I didn’t even bother to finish watching it people get on RUclips and TikTok and Instagram and what not to watch videos the last thing we want to hear is endless minutes of you talking about something that doesn’t even matter and about stuff that you already talked about multiple times.

You’re also wrong about your comment. ALL X Series Castle ESC have their last two sensor wires reversed on the sensor harness! The harness in this video was NOT an X series harness, therefore it was 1 pin short and did not work. The correct harness I purchased afterwards worked and it DOES have the last two wires reversed and is specified on the packaging. Please don’t be disrespectful on my Channel, that attitude never leads to anything good, thanks.
Let me correct some stuff you said first of reversing motor wires doesn't hurt the Esc or the motor second some people actually does reverse their motor wires on custom buildings especially when their motor is sitting on the opposite side.

I noticed a smoothness with the mmx 6s and the 1650 1717 too...I threw a tekin on 6s with the 1717 while testing and its even smoother...

The only thing that can harm a motor is too much heat. You can push 8s power into a 6s motor and it will work great! The only problem is that you should only do that for short intervals and don’t over gear it or use it in a really heavy rc vehicle.

Awe it’s been so long I don’t remember everything I said in the video back then.. but I did notice something new on the limitless… They have different motor plates. The limitless’s motor plate puts the motor further out for larger pinions so I had to buy a Felony motor plate for the Limitless in order to accommodate my preferred gear ratio. So I’ll mention that and show them side by side on the following video. What setup were you working with at the time?

Did you reprogram the 8s esc before you ran it on 6s?
The stock spektrum motor and esc was originally a 6s system that comes RTR. Right now however I do have a MMX8S esc instead of the MX6s esc and I have a custom throttle curve that I always copy and paste to any new esc that I buy.
In THIS video… no I did not make any adjustments to the esc on castlelink. I used the regular throttle curve which is just a linear 45° curve. In THIS video, everything was 6s only.

@@tedshickell7315 …. The punch setting and the brake setting on the spektrum 8s esc had the punch and break all the way up and timing on zero. The Kraton 8s motor that came with it was installed on the Felony but it sucked on 6s! It was horrible! Mayyyyybe on 8s it would be better but I would not recommend it because the castle MMX8S on 6s is amazing no matter what kv it is. I just did not go into detail about that in this video because I don’t want to steer ppl in that direction, it sucked.

Perhaps you haven’t seen all my vids lol 😎.., this was just with the 16 Pinion so it wasn’t going to be fast. Currently with the mmx8 and 27 pinion hit 92 mph with more left in it. I also have two more surprises coming up. I just have not made content recently bcs I’m waiting on some parts…

Right now but just switched to the mamba monster X 8S and yes I’m still running the 1717/1650kv on 21T… My most recent video is running the MMX8S on two 3s Lipo getting a feel for the new ESC.

If you mean the sensor harness.. yes the white wire is reversed with the black wire next to it for all X series esc. My problem was that I was using the wrong sensor harness.. the harness I used was 1 pin short. I purchased the correct harness and it did have its white wire reversed by factory and it also worked for my monster X8s.

I keep re-writing my reply bcs I end up getting too technical with hp vs torque in relation to actual engines since it looks like you also into drag. I got a build of my own so I can relate. Yea higher kv equals higher rpm but that’s not the only way to go about it imo. Do you think that the 6s spektrum 2050kv combo is a overall better combo than the castle mamba monsterX and 1717 1650kv combo?

… the castle 1718-1650kv is the universal go-to motor for any upgrade. Weather you use a castle mamba monster X 8s or the mamba X 6s, the 1718-1650kv is still the go to motor. It will out perform the stock 2050kv motor by a LONG SHOT! The stock motor may have an extra 1000kv than the 1717-1650kv but on 6s with a 27 tooth pinion, the stock motor will run 80mph and it will get very hot and it will cogg like hell once it gets hot, whereas the 1717-1650kv on the same 27 pinion and 6s will STILL hit 80mph and it will get there FASTER and it will run cooler and most importantly it runs much smoother and more precise. Remember that the 1717 can ALSO run sensor and can ALSO run on 8s! So on that 27 pinion on 8s your talking 95mph and that is STILL considered “under geared” because remember it’s 1000kv less than the stock 2050kv so from a 27 tooth pinion, you still have room to gear up if you want. After this video, my 27T pinion came in my MMX8s came in. So my felony runs mid 90’s with the 1717-1650kv on 8s. I speed run it and I drift it and drive just like I always have and I get the same runtime weather it’s 6s or 8s. I have two 40x10mm Rocket fans on the motor and it’s allllll good man I LOVE IT 🤟🤟
If you scan through my videos, you’ll find links to those rocket fans, deals for two if you shop hard. Amazon/eBay sell this cheap pair of 40x10mm fans on an aluminum motor mount that fits the stock and castle 1717 motors, it’s just $15 and it’s worth it just for the motor mount! After that I buy the Rocket fans and upgrade the fans and use the same mount. Ali express sells “40x40”mm fans, the tall boxy looking ones that everyone is using….ppl are paying $60 for a pair with a 3D printed screen, but YOU can buy the same fan, un altered or branded, just the plain 40x40mm fan with the manufacture sticker on it that shows the specs you know.., on Ali express you get that fan for under $5. Look for my video that says “Special Edition 45min video” and watch it. It’s one of the most comprehensive videos in have at the moment. The video after that is where I show the links for the Ali express high speed fans and I show them work on my video. Those two vids are pretty good. Hope all this was helpful.

You never reverse the wires you just simply change the rotation of the motor don’t care who tells you to change and swap the wires that’s first and foremost. Secondly, you talk entirely way too much during the video I didn’t even bother to finish watching it people get on RUclips and TikTok and Instagram and what not to watch videos the last thing we want to hear is endless minutes of you talking about something that doesn’t even matter and about stuff that you already talked about multiple times.

ALL X Series Castle ESC have their last two sensor wires reversed on the sensor harness! The harness in this video was NOT an X series harness, therefore it was 1 pin short and did not work. The correct harness I purchased afterwards worked and it DOES have the last two wires reversed and is specified on the packaging.

Let me correct some stuff you said first of reversing motor wires doesn't hurt the Esc or the motor second some people actually does reverse their motor wires on custom buildings especially when their motor is sitting on the opposite side.
