@@atomstarfireproductions8695 great observation and I feel exactly what you just said. I would love to see the mechanism running this machine. I heard it's very complicated. It does wash very well, so it has all the conveniences of the top loader and the performance of a front loader.
A top loader with front load action and it has options that most washers don't provide. Variety is the spice of life for a reason especially from that machine. Who needs an instruction manual when the washer itself IS one.
@@erg844 i'm telling you it covered just about everything is on there 20 years ago. They had smarter computers than they have now. Lol
@@petermaz701 They were thinking ahead of their time. That's genius if you ask me. A washer that tells you the definition of each cycle and what clothes you need to put in it is genius. The Neptune series was my favorite and I have used them before.
@ definitely ahead of its time
I have mine and its beautiful. I bypassed the locks with 2 magnets and after if finishes filling, l open it and can see the whole cycle!!!
@@augustowaters2866 well when I open the lid, I noticed that it really requires only one magnet on the left side, but I have to use a close pin to shove into the hook part on both sides. Otherwise it gives me an error message.
It uses SOO little water 🤣🤣🤣 WOWW UNBELIEVABLE

I remember looking at these in the store when they were new and was fascinated by them. If possible, do you think you could do a video with the back removed? I've always wanted to see how they work. Great video as always btw... 👍
The front of the machine is removable for service, not the back.
Umbelivable, AMAZING. I am specheless.❤

@ amazing that they had that technology back there and the computer graphics on the display.
What are the cycles available? I'd like to see the cotton/sturdy cycle.
It just doesn’t get enough water, Peter.
I hope that soap you added gets throughly mixed in.
This machine wouldn’t be good for dirty truckers jeans.
Wow Peter nice looking machine
@@bob3782 thank you I waited a long time to find this machine in running condition
thanks for the shoutout also great find
@@domthewasherguy thanks Dom
These machines were incredible. A nice mix between a frontloader and toploader. I dont understand why they stopped production on these machines? They have the potential to out perform most, if not all of these over-sensored HE washers on the market today.
@@chineeboy18 there was not a second generation of these because whirlpool bought Maytag and they didn't want anything to do with the Maytag technology. They completely destroyed Maytag.
@@chineeboy18 that was in 2006 this machine is 2003
@@petermaz701 whirlpool could have easily used Maytag technology with theirs and made amazing appliances. Whirlpool washers are not what they used to be.
@ I agree with you 100% but realize back then theywere arch rivals so when whirlpool was able to purchase Maytag that was the end of anything to do with Maytag. They want to show that they were the clear winners.
If they were smarter, they would've kept some of those Maytag engineers.
Looks like everything gets really tangled though and maybe damaged?
I think I actually like this wash action better than the Calypso. Good job, Pete.

What's the difference between cotton and sturdy on this machine?
@ I don't know Jerome I just got the machine. I didn't try everything.
@@petermaz701 LOL ! My top 3 washer brands have been Whirlpool/Kenmore and Maytag. Even though I give credit to both companies for coming up with something different I think the edge has to go to Maytag because this thing was really thinking outside the box.
Thanks for the shout out !
Could you do other cycles like the jeans or wool cycles? I’m curious about almost every cycle on this machine lol.
@@pony7124 I will try this morning. I'm doing colors it seems to pause a little more between the turning.
@@petermaz701sorry for responding late, but interesting how it pauses on some cycles.
@@pony7124 what it is is that it actually has slight delays in the rotation of the tumblers. Like five speeds it has sturdy, cotton, wrinkle free, delicate, and hand wash. so for example, cotton the tumblers keep going on wrinkle free they delay and then they start up again. They delay and then they start up again and that’s what it does for all the rest of the options.
@ I see. It would be pretty interesting to see a full cycle on one of those cycles though.
@ I'm actually moving it today to the spot where it's gonna stay. I have to take it out of my kitchen, so I'm waiting for the guy to come to move the machine cause I can't do it by myself then once it's in its permanent spot then I could start doing things.
I thought that the wash plates reversed direction the same as a front loader.
@@JeffreyHatch69 they don't reverse they stay the same direction like the original front loaders did. Who knows if they were around and made a second generation of this, they may have had them reversing, but unfortunately Maytag went out.
OH MY GOD finally! i want this one to stay with the washer famliy we have here and how are u running in it in the livimg room how is it draining?
It drains in the kitchen sink only temporarily
Is there a normal cycle? If so, what is that for?
@@jeromedavis8575 there is a normal cycle. I guess it's for whatever you consider normal.
@@petermaz701 What's the difference between cottons and sturdy cycle on this machine?
@ it's the difference between keeping the rollers turning they pause a bit longer.
@@petermaz701 I'd like to see the sturdy cycle. What are the default settings? How does it sound with the lid shut?
@ it's a pretty quiet machine with everything going on. I'm surprised myself.
This machine is fairly nice but its good for small -medium loads mostly
@@rahilraza1344 at first it seems that way, but that was a large load of towels and when they got wet, it didn't seem to have any problem at all.

@@philforest4747 I love it. It's from 2003 December.
@ thank you. Love the wash action. Similar to my front loader in the UK
@ yes this was designed to be an HE top loader that acts the same as the front loader
If only it would alternate the tumble direction like front loaders do, and the clothes wouldn't get tangled and would be cleaned even better. Otherwise a genius design killed by poor execution. A tip, if you are able to, try flipping the rollers around. Should give a more aggressive tumble action.
@@drsenseihugo thanks for the tip, but I'm afraid to take the rollers off. I took the cap off to clean it, but I don't want to take the rollers off because when you're dealing with something that's over 20 years old, something may go wrong and there's an old saying, leave well enough alone.
The clothes get clumped up unless it switches the wheels the other way too
@@rahilraza1344 unfortunately the wheels only go one way like the original front loaders did here in the US.
Wow, what an odd agitation method. Doesn't seem as if it's enough water and also seems as if it would be rough on delicate items. Probably fine for towels and tougher heavier items. 👍
@@MusicmanDavid well, everything gets totally saturated. There is no water control. The machine determines how much water it needs. It's one of the HE machines. Same principal as a front loader you can't set a water level in a front loader and now there's barely any visible water in the window.
I still haven't determined the gentleness of this washing system, depending on what cycle you choose, there are pauses between the rotations of the discs and the length of the rotations.
This machine must be for the ones who want the agitation of a front load w/ ease of a top load

How does it work??? Like I don't even hear it switching selections between the washing and spinning like on other washers
@@pontiac38gm to be honest with you I keep saying that in my head, I don't know how it works, but all the transitions between washing and spinning are totally silent no clanks or clicks.
The motor reverses for tumble vs. spin. Dual-shaft drive mechanism. The inner shaft rotates the tumblers, the outer shaft spins the drum. The pulley has a torque spring that winds up to clamp onto the outer shaft in one direction for spin, releases in the other direction so the pulley turns only the inner shaft for tumbling.
