It boggles the mind how this HE machine is not in production today. The garbage that whirlpool manufacturers put out on the market these days when this technology is sitting on a shelf in their engineering department is just insane. You're doing an amazing job Pete. ❤💯🥳
They weren't very reliable, expensive to make, and difficult to repair. You can get this washing action more easily by turning the drum to the side, which, as you guessed, is simply a frontloader.
@ you have to realize that this machine was made before front loaders were very popular here in the US in the very beginnings. There were not that many manufacturers that made front loaders. Top loaders were definitely way more popular so having a top loader that worked like a front loader with the amount of water and energy used was a win-win, but unfortunately complicated design and the fact Maytag was purchased by whirlpool and they stopped producing any of the Maytag prototypes a second generation was never made.
Really nice washer, it's like an frontloader, but very complicated constructed.❤ Never saw this before. In Europe we don't have systems like these or like other top load HE washer ore conventional systems. Hop you have fun with her :) I think the cleaning results are much better than the results from other toploaders. Best regards from Austria 🇦🇹
@@DrTeck thanks so much for watching. I was shocked myself by this machine. It works beautifully and it was way ahead of its time 20 years ago. Regards from New York.
These were such nicely designed machines. My friend and I went to the HD together when he bought his and we couldn’t get over how nicely it worked. He was really happy with it while he had it. Unfortunately it wasn’t a bearing that did it in, it was the motherboard when it was two years old and Maytag as we knew it had gone bankrupt and the parts were out of production so he bought a Samsung top loader that exploded in his garage while spinning so he finally listened to me and bought a Speed Queen front loader. He always had to have the newest things. But it really was cool. I even brought a few loads over of my own one Saturday which is something that I never do but I was curious to see the results while we had coffee and stuff.
@@LlyleHunter once again Bruce, I love the stories. I encourage you to always let some of them out. Yes, you gave him the right advice to get the speed queen. It's a shame that the motherboard went wow if something like that happens I have to bring this out to the curb.

The water valve for softener flush energizes on the final rinse fill at the point that the low fill level is reached, continues until the high level is reached. Bleach valve is engaged during the entire fill on the first rinse since it doesn't go to high level.
@@DADoESofTX thanks I'm so glad that you're confirming all the testing that I've tried. I didn't know it ran the whole time it's filling for the first rinse. I put my ear to the lid to listen.
Thanks for my request! Sorry I might request a lot, I’m just super curious about these types of machines and how different cycles function. Edit: good wash action as always!
@ yeah, it’s just that there aren’t many full cycles on this machine. I’m curious about how the delicate cycles or wool cycles work on this machine. It also makes it more interesting on how there is different speeds for the wash action.
@ there are five speeds, sturdy, cottons, wrinkle free, delicate and hand wash. That controls the rotation of the tumblers and the length of time that they rest.
@ yeah I did see in the video. It does kinda make sense that the jeans cycle defaults to the wrinkle free speed to be gentle with the jeans yet clean them well at the same time. It’s also not too gentle on them, but it’s still gentle. I think the delicate and wool cycles will show the delicate and hand wash speeds so try to run those cycles.
Those jeans really got twisted! I would love to disassemble one of these things and see the mechanicals inside. It couldn't have been easy to have two rotating plates and to have the whole thing also spin.
In all honesty machines here in the UK are on a smaller scale so they fit under the counter in kitchens as not allot of homes have luxury of a utility room. Machines range from 6kg (13lb) to 12kg (26lb)
@ yes I realize that now I've had a lot of talks with friends about the differences from these giant machines that we have over here to regular size. I have a Miele also and it fits everything.
The right-side latch should be protruding out partially, just past the balance point of its internal spring mechanism. The mechanism senses latch failure when it's fully retracted, lid open when it's fully out.
@@DADoESofTX thanks again you caught me struggling with it eventually I'll get the hang of it. What I don't like is that the water goes all over with the lid up. Next time I'm gonna have to let it fill with the lid down and then raise the lid after it's finished filling. I even had water on my floor
