- This is the third and final installment in Hanukkah 2022. We keep things a bit quieter in these last few days of Hanukkah / Chanukah which include Shabbat. We got some surprise snow this week! We also took out end of term exams, got ready for and enjoyed Shabbat, dealt with some freezing pipes in our house, and then the final day of Hanukkah, spent quietly with just our family.

Hello and welcome! My name is Chana, I’m married to my best friend, and we have four wonderful children together. We also happen to be Orthodox Jews and we homeschool our kids. This video is a sneak peek into our daily lives :) You can see how this particular Jewish homeschool mom sets up her days, rolls with the punches, and gets it all done. Thanks for watching!

The final days of Chanukkah.... :) Such fun! This was seriously my favorite Chanukkah ever :) The perfect end to a lovely holiday. Thank you for coming along for the holiday this year and have a wonderful weekend!
just a little detail, but your big kiddo asking if yure filming and you asked if it was okay with them? amazing to hear! some people use their kids to get views, which is so sad for them not being able to consent
Thank you :)
Hi Chana...I love your channel and the things that you do with your children. I am a Reform Jew who teaches special needs children in a Catholic school...I have been teaching there for 36yrs. I love how you encourage your children to read and engage them in other subjects. I love how you do many hands on activities...I love cooking with kids...That involves so many things and there is usually a pleasant outcome.
Thank you for your kind words Mary ❤️
Tip from a former Midwesterner where it could get down to -25 or more. The faucets need to be more than just a drip, a trickle of water works better. I hate the waste, but burst pipes are worse. Also, open up cabinet doors to get more warmth to the water pipes. There are insulated covers for outside faucets (which should have the water to them shut off and the water drained) Insulating the pipes near outside walls can help, but stay away from heated tape that uses electricity. Since we lived in a small town that could be cut off by snow storms, I had a “winter cabinet” stocked with easily cooked non-perishable foods, powdered milk, and other necessities as we were at the end of the supply chain and stores could be out of food for days before any trucks could get through. Love your videos and learning about Judaism. Thanks for sharing with us!
Thank you for the tips and for your kind words!
I wish I could send you the snow we recently had in Maine. Lol.
We had a blizzard, then it rained, temp dropped to below freezing and now we have ice everywhere. Supposedly we are warming to the 50’s and get more rain.
We usually have a lot of snow and we remained below freezing (32) most of the winter. In case you ever have those temps again..always drip water, flush often, turn the temperature up and open your cupboards that have water pipes on them.
You can also buy heat tape or 19:59 insulate your pipes with cheap pool noodles!!
Oh my kids would love your snow! Stay warm! Happy new year!🎊
Hi Chana 💜 In NY we call them "single digits" and some "other things" that I will leave to imagination 😁 When it's that cold you can leave the cabinet doors open to help warm the pipes. In NY we wrap our pipes with 'heat tapes' so they don't freeze and burst. Don't stress about making donuts now. You can make them another day for a math & science lesson 👌
🤣🤣🤣🤣 That’s funny! Thank you for the tips! We never did make donuts but definitely we will save it for another day
Wait until you love at Temps -40* for weeks on end. The words that might fly. ..
P.S. Chana, you must be the Super Firefly family! Your hubby cooking, with the little guy on his back, is just precious. 🙂 🕎 Rosemarie 💖
😊 thank you
I honestly thought that Hanukkah was basically the Jewish equivalent of our Christmas, you live and learn, thats why i love your vlogs. As a Brit kudos to you eating fish and chips but they need loads of salt and vinegar. Have to say my lot like them from the ‘chippy’ as home made isnt as good and you get extra bags of scrapings (batter) to go with them which doesnt happen if home made. Throw in some bread and butter and you have a typical Brit original takeaway wrapped in paper. Mushy peas and/or curry souce optional. 🥰🇬🇧
So glad this helped you understand Chanukah better! That’s for the tips for the fish and chips :) It’s definitely a favorite meal around here!
I discovered your channel few days ago and I have been binging on few of your videos.
First of all I have to say that I'm shooked that you are a convert Jew! Your knowledge, your faith, your passion for the Jewish tradition is amazing! It just like you were born Jewish!
As a Jewish guy living in Israel I view the Jewish life a lot different than the Orthodox way, although I of course I respect every Jewish choice and view.
And this is a common thing in Israel when you see people much less religious because we is live the ultimate Jewish dream, speak in Hebrew, serving in IDF, and leaving in a majority Jewish surrounding.
Judaism as a nation and not just as a religion.
I really hope that you come and live in Israel - first because I think you'll fit amazing here - you definitely have the Israeli Spirit in you 😉
And I do think that when you come and live here you can explore a whole level's of Jewish life that are much less religious but yet very part of the tradition and Jewish spirituality.
And we have amazing food here 🤗
Thank you for great videos, your story is very fascinating .
And I learned a lot about Jewish life in America from your videos.
Hi Daniel! Thank you so much for your kind words! I really appreciate you :) And welcome! I am so glad you are here! I can't wait to visit Israel one day and eventually we would like to live there. I have not been yet at all, so a visit is long overdue :)
The dimples on baby Firefly's hands are delicious! Wonderful video as usual. thanks, Chana!
Thank you :) Happy early new year!
Love to you all for 2023 :)
Thank you Julie!
You know what's funny. I've been watching Orthodox Jewish vlogs FOR YEARS now. And somehow it only just dawned on me why the kosher falafel kiosk by the Kyiv City central synagogue is closed on Saturdays 🤣
🤣🤣🤣
Guilty of laughing at the "snow." :P Love the excitment. Snow is magical.
🤣 You must live further north than I do
When it gets below 10 degrees it’s called “single digits”. 😊
Thank you!
Beautiful final days of Hanukkah. The dog looked like she enjoy the outside with the snow. Even if we don't see your kids face, they are so cute and I love how they are with you. 💖🕎
Bella LOVED cold weather!!! Makes me wonder what other dog breeds she has mixed in lol
@@jaroffireflies I love her name Bella.💖
@@janetlongislandsticher thank you!

You are so kind, thank you Cynthia!
I’m one of those “northerners” 🇨🇦, I am very close to Grand Forks, North Dakota to give you landmark. Where I am we have winter and snow and COLD for literally half the year. 🥶. Still I’m very happy for you to experience snow (and even happier that your pipes didn’t totally freeze). Bella looks like she was having an absolute ball. Best wishes to our whole Fireflies family for 2023! 🎉❤
Thank you 💜 Yes, Bella LOVED it!

Love how you have a group of young girls you are mentoring, such a worthwhile thing to be doing and fun too
Thank you 💜 It’s a new thing I started this year for a small group in my neighborhood

Baby firefly is getting so big!! ❤
And so fast too!
Good morning Chana and Firefly kiddos 💕 💖
Good morning sweet Kristin!!! Hope you are having a most wonderful day!
Heat tape is a really good idea in cold weather. Blessings 🙏
Knitting and stitching are such great hobbies. My hub’s parents worked as a tailor and seamstress, so he learned how to do the basics. Really handy.
That is awesome!
Thank you for sharing your faith traditions with us! It is so nice to learn about them from you!
You are so welcome! Thank you for being here 💜
I love your vlogs so so much. So full of positivity, love and warmth. Sorry to hear that the pipes have been frozen within your home. Lots of love from England ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you 😊❤️💐
It's been extremely cold in Eastern NC where I live. In fact today was a nice day. It was so nice I didn't need a jacket. Thank you for sharing your life. I have enjoyed learning about your beliefs
Thank you for being here Melissa and for your lovely comment! It was nice weather here too. I got to open the windows most of the day even!
I hope you all had a wonderful Hanukkah, Chana! I'm going back to see the other part; it's just been so hectic with the holidays and work. I also enjoy a cozy sweater myself, and, I prefer the cold to extreme heat. I can warm up, but, it's hard for me to cool off during the "dog days" of summer. Snow is so fun for the kiddos and Bella. We've hardly had any snow in NY at all. Baby Firefly is growing so quickly, God bless. He'll be crawling soon! 🤗 I thoroughly enjoyed this video, as always. Shabbat Shalom, and many blessings to you all. Rosemarie 💖
Thank you for all your kind words! I hope you had a lovely holiday and will have a wonderful and happy new year!
Loved your video. I tried to celebrate a little bit but my mother in-law has been in the hospital and our time was spent with her as she had 5 surgeries. We will try in 2023. Thank you for sharing with me.
Wishing your mother in law a speedy and full recovery with no complications 💜
Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I know how busy you are and it can't be easy! Stay warm! We just got done with a subzero spell here. In between 20 and 55 below zero and 2 blizzards in two weeks
Thank you so much Kathy ❤️ I really appreciate that! Stay warm and have a happy and safe new year!
Nature journal? More like work of art I’d hang on my wall! You’re so talented! 😮
Thank you! 😊 that’s so kind of you to say
I had to chuckle as your snow is quite a bit different than ours in MI ( over 2 feet in a day). Your Dog looked so happy! Nice thing for you it won’t last……ours will be here until late Spring❄️❄️❄️❄️
Stay warm! That’s chilly!
Hello from the Alabama gulf coast. We also had record breaking cold weather last week. Today we have a break, though. Sunshine and a balmy 70 degrees. I love your enthusiasm and cheerfulness that shines through your videos. Oh, and the head covering you wore this day is absolutely”chic”. I love it. Bless you and your family.
Thank you so much Diedre :) So glad you got better weather today! We were able to open the windows today too, it was lovely out!
I think Mr Firefly should write a cook book.
I agree :) Maybe one day!
Hi Chana, we were cold last last week, but now today we are in the 40’s, we got the ice, just no snow last week when everyone else got the blizzards, I’m in southwest PA. I never knew it got that cold in TX. Hope you and your family have a wonderful New Years. 🎉❤
It’s very rare it gets that cold here. But Texas is very big, up I. The panhandle they get snow regularly in winter. Stay warm! Happy new year!
Oh my goodness, that bear suit is too much!’❤️ Glad you had such a lovely holiday and hope that everyone is healthy again! Sick kids are no fun.
Thank you Lindsey! Thankfully we are all healthy again now! Happy new year!
My dear Fire flies, i does so enjoy your vedios they make me feel i so good you make me and daughter who is in the process of becoming the Jews we really are so happy and we cant wait to enjoy who HaShem call us both to be . Keep up the good work you do, you do a fantastic job, we love you, your family and your life style
Thank you Jacqueline!
I Hope Hanukkah was a blessed 8 days. Looks like the littles had fun. Baby firefly is getting to be so big.
It was wonderful Lisa thank you!
What a fun video,I see even Bella got excited about the snow! Gone cold here in Israel, started getting cold on the last day of Channuka...Hope you had a wonderful week, Shabbat Shalom lots of love
Thank you Devorah! Hope you enjoyed your Chanukah! ❤️ Shabbat shalom!
First thing I saw when your video came up on my you tube was the sweet photo of Daddy Firefly with baby Firefly on his back. So sweet. Y'all have such a loving home. Also I did really enjoy the Hanukkah videos. I love to watch your family enjoying Holliday fun .
Thank you Deborah ❤️ I’m so glad you enjoyed
Thank you for sharing your holiday with all of us. I so enjoyed it all. Baby Firefly’s first snow-how exciting! We also had to leave our pipes dripping a few nights last week. Thankfully, no pipes froze. I loved seeing Mr. Firefly cooking while baby wearing. Baby Firefly is learning to cook at a very young age. Lol I pray the yuck did not spread throughout your house to anyone else. That can be miserable! Sending you wishes for a wonderful, restful Shabbat this week. Until Monday!
Thankfully the yuck did not spread! 💜 I’m so glad you enjoyed 💜 Have a wonderful weekend and a happy new year to you 🥳
Oh, Bella! Such doggie joy, zooming everywhere. I could tell from the smile on your face that you were happy and content at being home, having the colder weather and the rest from the busyness (and memories as you said) of the week. Your enthusiasm at exams is infectious and also so 'right' in attitude as learning from them as you start CM is the best way forward for you all. I am taking notes, lol. I grew up on a farm in the Snowy Mountains of Australia and our pipes froze every winter, at least once. I remember having to use the outside toilet at the shearing shed - a metal seat too. Sooo cold! I am enjoying this video a lot.
Oh my look at me learning new things too! I don’t know why but I never thought of snow in Australia! I’ve never seen a picture of snow there but it makes perfect sense! 💜💜💜
Thanks for the lovely video of your family celebration. I was watching while making diner and was laughing alone in tge kitchen when you said you felt it was okey to call because it was daylight. I was thinking about the sommer where daylight starte a bit before 4 in the morning and during the winter it us dark op to 9 in the morning. We usually says from 8 to 6 or our business hours it is ok to ringe. Lots of chilly vibes from norther europe .
Oh my yes I wouldn’t call at 4am lol Here it’s light around 7am right now :) I’m so glad you enjoyed :) Thank you for watching!
I cannot imagine how exciting it must be for you when it snows in Texas. Enjoy the experience!
Its really special :)
We had plummeting temperatures here also! I live in Florida and I get it about running the water, we also had to run the pool filter all night for a few nights. Interesting about your son choosing knitting. My grandfather was an expert knitter and I couldn't get the hang of it at all! However, I can do needlepoint and I used to be able to crochet ( its been years). Woodworking we did in girl scouts, I remember enjoying it, but don't remember what I made. Wonderful video, loved watching your celebration! As always a pleasure to watch and learn....
Love all those crafts you’ve done! Wow, I didn’t realize it got cold in Florida too! I never think of Florida’s being cold lol How cold did it get? Thank you for your kind words :)
The closing shot of the Chanakiah was magical! Sorry Little Dude got sick. I remember getting a flu around Thanksgiving or Christmas and it was so disappointing.. Hope he's feeling much better now. Yes! As a native Southern Californian that would be snow to me too! LOL. Loved Bella's zoomies! I'm going to try my hand a pasta e fagoili soup this week. We didn't get the freezing cold but it rained all day a couple of days ago and it's overcast and super chilly now. Enjoyed your adventures over the past week you shared! Looking forward to more in the future! 😘
Bella's zoomies! I like that and will adopt that phrase! She loves the cold so much :) Thank you, Little Dude is much better now :) Enjoy your soup!
Chana, you had me at fried food!!😅 Especially the fish and chips- that's a staple here🎏🍟!
Hope you had a wonderful time, by the way, your headpiece looks stunning. It's giving me art deco 1930s elegant. Beautiful.
Sending well wishes to you all today 🎉💐🇬🇧
Thank you Hannah! Mr Firefly lived in England for a while so his fish and chips are the best I have ever had :)
Hi Chana, glad your family is enjoying the snow. We had single digit temps here in Virginia last week, way too cold for this elderly lady! 😲😲
Thank you Martha! Stay warm!
Girl it got super cold here in GA too. I'm 46 and it's the coldest weather I've ever experienced. Hope y'all are having a cozy winter!
Stay warm Stacey! ❤️❤️❤️
We in the north call it single digits when it gets in the 1's. Happy New Year
Thank you so much!
I think any amount of snow is worth celebrating! We don’t get as much in Virginia now. Nothing yet this year. I always look forward to your vids. ❤
Hope y’all get to see some snow later this winter!
I love learning about your religion❤ every video gives me some good parenting tips ❤
Fantastic! I am so happy to hear that!
That was informative to see how Hanukkah plays out.
So glad you found it educational ❤️
Thanks for sharing your Chanukah with us. It's so interesting that you light the extra candle, the shamash last. Our custom (Ashkenazim) is to light it first. So I went searching for sources. So interesting!! I learned a lot.
So glad you enjoyed! I hope you had a wonderful Chanukah :)
Shabbat falling on Hannukkah (even though I know it probably always does) reminds me of how Christmas this year fell on Sunday! It must be extra holy and fulfilling and exciting to have a special holiday fall on a usually special day.
Mom voice was on point at 4:08. Love it. You tell 'em about the jacket!
Also, your laugh is incredibly adorable.
Happy New Year!
Thank you for your kind words :) Yes, Hanukkah does end up on Shabbat every year which is always fun :) Hope you have a wonderful new year!
Your smile after you adjusted baby’s hat out in the cold was so heartwarming! 😊
😊😊😊
I loved seeing you cuddling the baby to keep you and him warmer when you were outside. I live in Canada but my brother and his wife are in Texas so I know they weren’t too happy with that cold weather either!
Definitely a big difference between Texas weather and Canada weather!
Where I live we rarely get snow so totally understand your excitement at the flurries 🌨❄not so exciting though to get frozen pipes !😕Was fun seeing Bella get the zoomies in the garden, dogs seems to really love cold weather don't they ? Sorry to hear little guy was poorly hopefully he's better now & the other children didn't catch it. Wow those fish & chips looked so good 😋
Thank you Clare ❤️ Yes, Little Dude is all better now :) He was such a good sport even when not feeling well :) Yes, Bella LOVES the cold weather!!! Hope you get to see some snow this season! Happy new year!
Happy Hanukkah Chana! Beautiful lighting of the hanukkiah. Tip for you, if y'all like jalapeños hot soak them in water about half hour or so, with few table spoons of sugar. Should take most if not all the heat out
Thank you!
Enjoy your last days of Hanukkah & I hope your child will be feeling better! Take care of yourself
Thank you so much Alicia!
❤️ the Hogwart’s mug!
Thank you!
Well done on completing first term. It was 2 degrees for 2 weeks etc in the U.K.
Thank you! Stay warm!
Hi Chana i love your paintings. In such a small space you can make a beautiful moment of time. We got snow in Vancouver last week which is not normal but the rain came so no snow now. Lol
Your headscarf you wore on shabbat is super cute....you look like a 1920's fashionista. Much love Rissy
Thank you so much Rissy! And thanks for the snow pictures!
Happy New Year Chana and Firely family !🎉
Happy new year!🎊
@@jaroffireflies hahaha oh my goodness you can see I wrote that later at night .🤦♀️We have been travelling so much and I was exhausted. Happy New Year !
Love that you shared Mr. Firefly cooking in the kitchen with Baby Firefly on his back. What was he frying, it looked so good. Glad your holidays were fun and Little Dude Firefly is feeling better.
He was frying eggplant for Shabbat salads! Eventually we will share it in another cooking video 💜
Hello chana, thank you for sharing this video. I have recepies from pinterest for jewish holiday. Glad to see that is isn’t to cold where you live. The cold weather in America is on the news in the Netherlands. Have a nice day. Greatings from the Netherlands.
Thank you Annie! So glad you enjoyed! Always fun to hear about us in the news across the ocean! I get a kick out of that!
Looks like u had a great memorable Chanuka especially snow how cool! (pun intended😜).
As for remembering which day it is in Chanuka, this year it was easy (for those who speak Hebraw) as the first day was on Sunday, which is Rishon in Hebraw. Since the days of the week literally go by first second third etc. So Friday is Yom Shishi, then it is Ner Shishi (the sixth 😉). Good luck with the new term in school and Shabat Shalom
Shabbat shalom Manya! Hope you had a wonderful Chanukah as well 💜💐
Happy Hanukkah Fireflies! You amaze me every week. You're so organized and joyful. You make my week. Hope Lil dude is all better. You've a beautiful family.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your kind words :) Little Dude is all better now! Happy new years!
@@jaroffireflies, You're very welcome, and Happy New Year to you and yours. Any big plans for the Fireflies on New Year's Eve?
@@Deep_Blue_Sapphire thank you so much! No plans for us :) I will likely be asleep lol Do you have plans?
That weather blew in to Mississippi around 6pm that same Thursday. We got 1/2 or more of snow. It was 1 degrees with below zero wind chill Friday morning. So we has a white Christmas kinda.
That is fun! Hope you enjoyed the snow :)
I'm down by Houston, we got hit with the crazy cold too. Our neighborhood shares a water well and it froze....we were out of water for 3 days. I was prepared we were ok, but man can I relate to the lugging jugs of water to manually flush 🤦😅🥶❄️
Oh no! Wow I am surprised it got that cold so far south! What a crazy day for Texans lol
I love that you stopped exams to go out in the snow fall. It’s been very cold in the UK also.
Stay warm ❄️
Hello Hannah and family happy Hanukkah x
Thank you Angela!
@@jaroffireflies you are more than welcome hannah 💐
I giggled because it was -10C here in my end of AB yesterday and we were all out skating and sledding; some in shorts and t-shirts playing hockey. Once it hits 0C we are treating it like Spring 😂😂. My husband rides his fat bike to work in -15C sometimes lower if the roads are plowed. I can only imagine the shock of that kind of cold weather when you are not used to it. The week before Christmas we hit -45C with the wind chill. That is cold even for us!
🤣🤣🤣 Yes we wouldn’t even know what to do with those temps!!! Sounds like y’all had a lot of fun though 💜
Thank you for sharing your holiday with us. I had to smile to myself watching you fold the clothes because we have six children and raised a grandchild and I remember folding clothes on the kitchen table, brought back great memories. Thank you for keeping it real and enjoying the small things in life. Love and light for the coming new year. Keep on doing what you're doing!
So glad it brought back memories ❤️ Thank you for your kind words 💐 Happy new year!
