I love turkey but I cook it differently. There is a solution for the smell and it helps enhance the flavours. It does work for any kind of poultry. If you don’t mind a suggestion 😊 The night before the cooking, let the bird soak in lemon juice and water, lots of juice, for an hour or so. Then drain and cover it from inside and out with a mix of garlic, turmeric, cumin, ginger, cinnamon and coriander/parsley, also hot spices if you like them. Let it sit overnight in the fridge and it’s ready to go in the oven with your favourite stuffing. I personally like rice with 🫒olives. You might want to add some preserved lemons, whole or cut in small pieces.
I really appreciate how patiently and respectfully to respond to people. Not everyone will be correct or polite. With your patience you demonstrate the true spirit of Judaism. Happy Thanksgiving.
I’ve always made my Thanksgiving meal from scratch, too. These days, our youngest son runs 3 cell phone stores in a major market city and works all Black Friday ensuring everything runs smoothly. I made our meal, hubby packed it all up, and we drove an hour to have our feast at his apartment! Crazy, but he worked up until 6 pm on Thanksgiving preparing for the rush to come, and had planned to order Chinese takeout. Nothing wrong with Chinese, but it’s Thanksgiving 🤦🏻♀️ It actually turned into a wonderful, insane evening, one we will never forget. Also, I’ve always made my cranberry sauce, but I substitute the water with orange juice. It doesn’t interfere with the taste of the berries, just gives it a little flavor twist. Thanks for the videos and the glimpse into your lovely family.
My husband and I worked in EMS for over 20yrs, so our major holidays were often moved around, either the meal relocated or we celebrated on a different date. Growing up, my sister and I were the oldest of my one grandmother's grandkids, so once there was a bunch of us she'd go from house to house on Christmas Day, and usually came to our house the 26th. We typically did our "Christmas" dinner that day with her.

In our family, we only make dressing, we don't stuff the turkey, and we mix bread and cornbread together. So I would have added the cornbread dressing to the extra stuffing mix! Try it, you'll love it!
So my Mom also taught me to cool dishes down before putting them in the fridge. I believe it's done so as not to warm up the refrigerator and effect the cooling of the fridge. Maybe, maybe not.
Thank you Chana for sharing your daily life. You are in a unique position to share your lifestyle with the non-jewish community as you have lived in both. I now understand so much more about the orthodox lifestyle.
Every year when I go to make the turkey, I remember my grandma telling me how she knows when the turkey is done. Mind you...when she got into old age, she was a spitfire....She would always say about the turkey,"Yep, she's good and ready...her legs done flopped open!" My grandma was always a bit of a dirty old bird, but I look back on those memories with fondness and humor. I miss her so much, especially this time of year, and I'm thankful that I have these memories that make me laugh.
I love how your kids were excited about the bread crusts. When I make the sweet potato dish, I just wash the sweet potatoes then put them in a crock pot to cook them. No peeling or dicing! The peels will slide right off. It usually takes about 3 hours on high, depending on how many are in the pot. Just cook them until they are easily pierced with a fork. Your meal looks yummy.
I love bread crusts. Even when I was a little girl. When my mum was alive she always gave me and teh dog the crusts aha, we had then same enthusiasm for them.
Oh dear, we did Campsgiving one year in Death Valley and ended up at a restaurant, lol. Your plan of bringing the pre-cooked meal is far better than trying to camp-grill a turkey. Hope it all went off great!
We sort of celebrated today. My dad had my sister, brother-in-law and I over for brunch. My stepmom cooked. I was excited Peacocktv streamed the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. I watched the beginning, then had to go to my dad's. But I was excited because I can't get a signal for local TV here. My stepmom made her brussels sprout casserole, so good. We had eggs, and sausage links. I'm going to make mac and cheese here (Velveeta), I feel like having it. I got to see my nephew!!!!

My friend (best) friend bought me a card and gave me $5. That was nice. I cook him vegetarian chili a LOT. I need paper towels. I have food stamps, so I'm okay. The building, the staff gave me a card, and some candy, which was super thoughtful, I think I'm one of their favorites. I've been here going on 11 years, I was the first in this apartment (3rd waive to move in). I need to call my mom.
I thankyou Chana for your encouragement and l pray for your beautiful family and amazing uploads...you've become a friend and part of my life. G-d Bless you all xxx
You need an instant pot!! I put my unpeeled sweet potatoes on a trivet inside the inner pot, put a cup of water in and pressure cook for 12 minutes. In less than 20 minutes, start to finish, you have your cooked and ready to peel sweet potatoes. Best part is if you let them cool for a 10 minutes, while you gather ingredients for the souffle, the peels slide right off! My dogs always get the peels. Extra vitamins for them and no waste so it's a win! I also instant pot my eggs for deviled eggs and my regular potatoes for potato salad etc. It has been a total game changer!
First-HAPPY THANKSGIVING! The washi tape idea is brilliant! Definitely stealing that one. I always mess up my recipe cards/printouts when they sit in the counters. Your turkey looks amazing. I love your t-shirt. What a great message, especially on a day like today. Giving thanks and being generous-the things God has called us to be. And, I too had never heard of having macaroni and cheese for Thanksgiving until I moved to the Southeast. It is definitely a “southern thing.” Where I live many families also have baked beans. Not this family, baked beans are for barbecues, not Thanksgiving! Lol I also had never heard of cornbread dressing until moving to the South. In Ohio (the North) where I am from we have herb stuffing from the bird. The only way you normally had baked dressing is if there was extra left after the turkey was stuffed. Your plate looked so good. I am getting hungry and anxious to have our Thanksgiving meal around 2:00 today. We are not cooking this year. We are going out to eat with family. Again, HAPPY THANKSGIVING. Looking forward to Monday to see how your Campsgiving went. Blessings, Shawn
@@jaroffireflies For the best ever cranberry sauce, substitute orange juice for the water and add orange rind. You will never make it any other way. If I am ambitious, I squeeze my own juice and grate the rind. When I am lazy, I use bottle, refrigerated OJ and dehydrated orange peel that I got in the spice section of a bulk food store.
Saw your campfire on Instagram....fun memories for your children. I like the idea except for the tents.lol I would prefer that little house ya'll went to earlier this fall. I am like you, heavy handed with the poultry seasoning which my husband is not a fan of.lol But it just brings back my childhood turkey and dressing.
Yes! Poultry seasoning is the stuff of my childhood memories also :) And I’m beginning to be with you on the tents, I’m getting a bit old or spoiled or something lol but my tent days may be numbered lol
I have really come to love your videos. I recently just got transferred to an area with a lot of Jewish customers and I had a while conversation with one of my customers about your gluten free challah bread because she said her grandson has celiac disease
I ended up making my grandma's chicken stock on Tuesday and cornbread. Then last night I put together her dressing with the cornbread and toasted bread with celery/onion with of course poultry seasoning, sage and thyme. Turkey is currently in the oven right now.
Our Thanksgiving was low maintenance this year. We had a homeschool thanksgiving, a church thanksgiving, and this weekend if things work out an extended family thanksgiving. I told everyone to pick one thing they really wanted that was Thanksgiving to them and then made just those things. It is a good thing too, because my littlest is very sick today and has been since Tuesday night. Since I had not planned much I was able to get it done and still snuggle with my sick kid watching movies most of the day. I hope your Campsgiving was lovely!
Chana, I need to know! Did you make the gravy???😂 hope you guys had a great Thanksgiving. Camping seems like an awesome idea, can’t wait to see how it went. I always work so our thanksgiving is always pretty low key. This we we had…. Pie. Chicken pot pie, pumpkin pie and apple pie. My son make the pumpkin and my daughter the apple. She even cut out a cute turkey for the top crust with little leaves around it. I was very impressed with her! I’m a plain crust with booting slits in it type of person, but she always goes all out with her decorations.
Happy Thanksgiving! This is my first as an empty nester. So I am choosing to work a graveyard shift. My kids all spent theirs with their families. Blessings from North Dakota.
Happy Thanksgiving! I made my husband (he's from east Texas) cornbread dressing with chicken. It's unsweetened cornbread, cooked chicken, minced onions & celery, spices & a couple eggs to hold it together. I made a gluten free version for myself with gluten free bread. I also am having a sweet potato with cinnamon & butter. I make a cranberry compote with fresh cranberries & frozen cherry berry blend & a sweetener. I'm sugar-free. My husband doesn't like turkey & won't eat the other things, so I made enough for me. My kids are grown & doing their own thing across the country.
My hubby and I don't usually do much for holidays at all. It's just the 2 of us, so it's pointless to cook a huge meal, or waste money on gifts at Christmas when we have bills to pay. This year, we are really not feeling festive as we had to put our 11 yr old cat, Meekers, to sleep on Monday, because of finding cancer in her chest next to her heart. We lost her sister, Pippi, 2 month prior and were still healing from that when we had to make that horrible decision for Meekers. So we're both quite down, and just spent the day watching movies and football. I want to try your cornbread stuffing recipe, as cornbread is one of my husband's favorite things. It looked so yummy. Hope you had a lovely camps-giving with the family

Wouldn't want to be at our cottage let alone in a tent on a campsite here today :P Your meal looked lovely. Hope your family and you are enjoying your Thanksgiving.
Hello Chana! I hope that Campsgiving worked out well for you, decent weather, fun, great walks, enjoying Creation and all those family memories. Looks like a wonderful feast to me! Loved the dehydrator tip about the dehydrator, I would have never thought to do that to make things instant. Hope you had a happy Campsgiving, can’t wait for that video.
Living vicariously through you today Chana, bc I’m living alone 1000 miles away from any family. Just waited for an hour in the cold outside in line just for Boston Market to run out of almost everything, & after a very obese couple who were very rude & disrespectful to everyone got 2 whole chickens & TEN large sides, wiping out most of the rest of their food. People with mobile holiday orders were demanding extra food without having to wait in the long line. Just totally ruined my day! But now I’m at home eating & watching your video & your channel always puts me in a better mood, so thank you for that 😄🦃
Hi Hannah, I know this video was two years ago, but I thought I answered your query about what are a bunch of celery called. The whole celery is called a stock and one piece of the celery is called a rib. I will sort the pieces of celery were called stocks.
Hoping your Campsgiving was wonderful! What a fantastic idea to use the dehydrator! As always, you are a pleasure to watch and I am looking forward to your Campsgiving video.
My Thanksgiving tradition is to eat pumpkin pie (with dairy) early in the day long before sampling any meat. I'm enjoying this as I cook at home. Happy Camp T-Day!
Happy thanksgiving sweetie I hope you have a fabulous time camping. I love your tee shirt too. It’s so on par with what we need in this world. Have a great thanksgiving and god bless

All families have their diet restrictions-my sister is gluten free. My 83 yr old parents finally agreed to give up hosting-my oldest sister agreed to host. Her daughter and son in law decided to deep fry the turkey for something new. They used peanut oil not remembering my brother and I are severely allergic. No turkey for us!! She also didn’t tell us she got a cat four of us very allergic. I spent four hours alone at my parents because I can’t be around cats. Then no turkey when my food came!! But life is good-what high class problems to have!! Love your channel!
Her's a tip: Add 2 bags of cranberries to a cup of sugar, with water and an orange. a whole orange. Sometimes i put cloves in the peel. thet it slowly stew for an hour. Cranberries are supposed to be mushy!
Choir dropped off a box of Thanksgiving dinner. Very nice for the people in this building who are alone (probably most of us, I'm lucky to have family). Ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing, and pumpkin pie. I grabbed two. I went to pick up an Amazon package, and they said I could have another because there was extra. I ordered "The Polar Express", I should get the book. I watch it every year!! My Uncle got me to like the film. He said they show it to the kids in his building for Christmas. Happy Thanksgiving, Chana and to your family. I'm going to watch "The Polar Express" tomorrow night. I finally have a DVD player that works (on my new computer), I'm still watching Quantum Leap, it's overdue.

Thanks for the tips!
I never heard of dehydrating cooked pasta or rice etc for camping trips. That's a wonderful idea.💛💛💛💛💛
Glad you enjoyed that tidbit! Instant rice is the same as dehydrated rice, so I buy that instead of dehydrating my own :)
I love that you said dressing!!!!!! I’m from the south …. … we NEVER say stuffing!!!!!! I love your videos!
Thank you Jennifer! 💜
I really appreciate how patiently and respectfully to respond to people. Not everyone will be correct or polite. With your patience you demonstrate the true spirit of Judaism. Happy Thanksgiving.
Thank you so very much for you kind and encouraging words Orly 💜💜💜
Aw what a great mom you are!!! I love that! I’m sure he really appreciated it :)

Sounds delicious! Thanks for the tip!
So my Mom also taught me to cool dishes down before putting them in the fridge. I believe it's done so as not to warm up the refrigerator and effect the cooling of the fridge. Maybe, maybe not.
That totally makes sense!!!
Thank you Chana for sharing your daily life. You are in a unique position to share your lifestyle with the non-jewish community as you have lived in both. I now understand so much more about the orthodox lifestyle.
You are so welcome Sue! Thank you so much!
In Canada, I celebrated Thanksgiving on the second Monday of October !!!!!😃😃😃
Every year when I go to make the turkey, I remember my grandma telling me how she knows when the turkey is done. Mind you...when she got into old age, she was a spitfire....She would always say about the turkey,"Yep, she's good and ready...her legs done flopped open!" My grandma was always a bit of a dirty old bird, but I look back on those memories with fondness and humor. I miss her so much, especially this time of year, and I'm thankful that I have these memories that make me laugh.
I love that! Thank you for sharing your story :)
Oh great tip! Thank you!!!
I love bread crusts. Even when I was a little girl. When my mum was alive she always gave me and teh dog the crusts aha, we had then same enthusiasm for them.
@@zionsphere so fun!
Belynda Perry I am going to try this thank you for the helpful tip have a lovely day !
Stalk of celery ( whole). Each "stem" is called a rib. 😊
Thank you! Rib!
I used maple sugar in my cranberry sauce and on our sweet potatoes. Gave both a very subtle maple flavor and was delicious.
Sounds yummy!
Oh dear, we did Campsgiving one year in Death Valley and ended up at a restaurant, lol. Your plan of bringing the pre-cooked meal is far better than trying to camp-grill a turkey. Hope it all went off great!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Death Valley!!! Ya no regrets on the precooked food. It worked out perfectly!
So fun!!! Sounds like you had a great day!
I love your channel. I am a convert to Judaism. So your story kind of resonates for me. I'm not Orthodox, but appreciate the idea of motherhood and relationships within this construct. I just wanted you to know your channel touched my heart. From one mama to another,
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you’re here :)
You are just too sweet! Happy Thanksgiving to all the Fireflies, too
Thank you, Virginia ❤️
You can always use a permanent pan not only for Turkey but also to make large lasagnas and freeze and other casseroles. Beats adding to the landfills.
If I use it for turkey I can’t cook dairy things in it because of kosher
Happy Campsgiving! It doesn't matter what you make or how you make it...as long as you have a meal to share with Family and friends! Many Blessings to you and your Beautiful family! 💛🧡🦃🌻🍁🍂
Exactly! Love your attitude Lupe! Thank you!
What perfect timing. I’m down to my final ‘to do’ list, you are the perfect companion to get it all done.
Happy Thanksgiving, Chana and everyone else celebrating
Woohoo! So glad I could “help” you out!
I make a very similar stuffing, but I add a can of water chestnuts and a stick of margarine.
What a fun addition!
How nice your friend have you a card and the staff too!
I'm glad to learn that gluten-free matters are better when they rest before you cook them. I'm going to try that out.
It’s a tip I read online somewhere that’s worked for me :)
@@jaroffireflies thanks! I meant to say batters not matters 🙃
@@DesertPrimrose I totally knew what you meant :)
I thankyou Chana for your encouragement and l pray for your beautiful family and amazing uploads...you've become a friend and part of my life. G-d Bless you all xxx
Thank you!
I tape recipes to cabinets too! Glad I am not alone
So fun! It’s such a great way to keep them safe and available!
Thanks for all the tips! And yes, I’m quite exhausted:) but I’ll sleep good tonight!
Thank you Shawn! The Mac and cheese was a huge hit with the kids :) I hope you had a wonderful thanksgiving!
We had a great Thanksgiving!
I use painter's tape for the same thing. Not as fancy as washi tape, but it works! Hmmm, maybe Santa can put a pretty washi tape in my stocking?
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! Have you tried adding a bit of Orange zest in your cranberries? It is delish!
I was just telling someone in another comment that I want to try that!!!
@@hissibling933 sounds delicious thanks for the tips!
I love the idea of Campsgiving! I’m very much looking forward to seeing that video. 😊
Thank you Sandra! I’m looking forward to sharing it with you too
I have really come to love your videos. I recently just got transferred to an area with a lot of Jewish customers and I had a while conversation with one of my customers about your gluten free challah bread because she said her grandson has celiac disease
Thank you!
I ended up making my grandma's chicken stock on Tuesday and cornbread. Then last night I put together her dressing with the cornbread and toasted bread with celery/onion with of course poultry seasoning, sage and thyme. Turkey is currently in the oven right now.
What fun! Happy thanksgiving Larissa!
Happy Hanukkah. Many blessings in this festival of lights.
Thank you!
I love watching other people cook.
I like the shorter opening a lot!
Glad you enjoyed!
Wow that’s a lot! Sounds like a lot of fun too :) except for the sick kid, I’m hope your kid feels better soon!!!
I never made the gravy 😂😂😂 But that was ok, everything was delicious! Can’t wait to post the CAMPSGIVING vlog on Monday!
Happy Hanukkah!!!!!! What a weekend!
Thanksgiving and Hanukkah!!!
Thanks for the great videos as always! 👍🏻🙏
Thank you so very much Lydia!!! 💜
Happy Thanksgiving! This is my first as an empty nester. So I am choosing to work a graveyard shift. My kids all spent theirs with their families. Blessings from North Dakota.
I hope you had a good day Kathy! That’s a big adjustment. Sending hugs!
Everything sounds delicious! I hope you both enjoyed the meal :)
I’m so sorry about the losses of your cats! Sending hugs!
I think one piece of celery is called a stalk. Love your videos. Have a wonderful Campsgiving.

Hi Chana...I certainly hope the weather at your campsite is A LOT better than what we have here in Ontario today! It's very dark @ 1:30 pm, the wind is COLD and it's RAINING! Wouldn't want to be at our cottage let alone in a tent on a campsite here today :P Your meal looked lovely. Hope your family and you are enjoying your Thanksgiving.

You could buy Chex Mix. I'll put recipes in page protector things and put them on the fridge with a magnet.
They all have gluten in them 😞
Hello Chana! I hope that Campsgiving worked out well for you, decent weather, fun, great walks, enjoying Creation and all those family memories. We do not do Thanksgiving, being an Aussie, but I love hearing all about it. Now that the granddaughter is 3, she can really participate and enjoy our various traditions. What is chex mix (spelling might be wrong)?
Hi Cate! We had a blast! Will post the thanksgiving vlog tomorrow! I show check mix in this video: ruclips.net/video/_JmUqBXoLkM/видео.html That’s the easiest way for me to explain it :)
Looks like a wonderful feast to me! Loved the dehydrator tip about the dehydrator, I would have never thought to do that to make things instant. Hope you had a happy Campsgiving, can’t wait for that video.
Thank you Lisa! Stay tuned for Monday for the CAMPSGIVING vlog!
But now I’m at home eating & watching your video & your channel always puts me in a better mood, so thank you for that 😄🦃
Oh Leah I’m so sorry! Sending hugs! I hope your evening was much better!
Hi Hannah, I know this video was two years ago, but I thought I answered your query about what are a bunch of celery called. The whole celery is called a stock and one piece of the celery is called a rib. I will sort the pieces of celery were called stocks.
Thank you 😊
U got me so excited to get in the kitchen and cook, love the campsgiving idea
Happy cooking!
Hi Chana👋🏼Try using orange juice instead of water when you make your cranberries! It’s so good!😋😋😋
Thanks for the tip!
Hoping your Campsgiving was wonderful! What a fantastic idea to use the dehydrator! As always, you are a pleasure to watch and I am looking forward to your Campsgiving video.
Thank you Janith!
Happy Thanksgiving! I am going to try out your cornbread dressing. My gf stuffing did not come out this year so time for something different.
Thanks Laura! Hope you had a great thanksgiving! And I hope you enjoy the cornbread dressing!
My Thanksgiving tradition is to eat pumpkin pie (with dairy) early in the day long before sampling any meat. I'm enjoying this as I cook at home. Happy Camp T-Day!
Ohhh yum!!! Hope you enjoyed!!!
Happy thanksgiving sweetie I hope you have a fabulous time camping. I love your tee shirt too. It’s so on par with what we need in this world. Have a great thanksgiving and god bless
Thank you Daphne!
Happy Thanksgiving! Hope the Campgiving went well. More seasoning (pepper, garlic powder) for me on both stuffing and dressing but easy and good going on it all.
Hope you had a wonderful day
Happy Thanksgiving from Idaho. Campsgiving is a fun idaho. It was 18 degrees this morning when I went to work.
What is your applesauce trick? I never thought to do this?
Thank you! Hope you had a wonderful thanksgiving! Wow that’s cold! Stay warm!
@@jaroffireflies that will get Worse in January. Lol. It was quiet. I am home alone this holiday. And I got off from work when there was still daylight. Lol.

I just commented on an old video that i never saw before. I have been having problems with my utube channel. It took me almost 3 hours to watch it and I think I got both of them at different times. I'm glad I'm not losing it 😂. Your dinner looks delicious. Like your son, I'm also diabetic. Does he handle cranberry sauce ok? I've never been able to and it is a favorite. I bake the sweet potato for me. Have a great camping trip. I'm anxious to see how everything goes
Hi Claudia! Thank you! Yes, my son handles cranberries just fine. Being type 1, I just give him insulin for the food he eats.
Oh forgot what a lovely idea, Campsgiving x
Hi Chana, love your sparkly green headscarf! Thanks for sharing your recipes and have a wonderful relaxed Camping Thanksgiving ☮️
Thank you Susan!

you & your family have a Happy & Blessed Thanksgiving! I like the idea of how you posted your recipes on the cabinets.Mom always makes the cranberry sauce she adds cut up oranges & nuts, I never made sweet potato like you did so I will make this for Christmas dinner . I never had cornbread stuffing I use to stuff my turkey, but now I make stuffing balls I put them in a muffin pan. That will be exciting to go camping for Thanksgiving I always wanted to have Thanksgiving in the woods maybe one day have a lovely Thanksgiving !
You’re good sounds delicious! You’ll love this sweet potato recipe :) It’s absolutely scrumptious!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Thanks for telling me about dehydrating cooked rice and pasta, I love the idea.
Thanks Irene! I’m so glad you liked that tip!
Oh wow what an adventure you had! I love your attitude about it though :) 💜
Hey Chana what a lovely video , thanks for sharing happy thanks giving have a lovely time , from you’re follower here in England 😀

I can't wait to hear how your camping Thanksgiving goes - it sounds totally fun!!!
Thanks Denise!
Her's a tip: Add 2 bags of cranberries to a cup of sugar, with water and an orange. a whole orange. Sometimes i put cloves in the peel. thet it slowly stew for an hour.
Cranberries are supposed to be mushy!
Thanks for the tip!
