Ok, I can see what I was doing differently: I wasn't adding rice flour, no cayenne, I never let the batter sit more than 30 minutes, I wasn't using corn starch to coat it (just regular flour as we're not gluten-free). It was fine but I was never fully happy with it, I felt something was lacking there. Today I watched a video by Henry Abramson (who teaches Jewish history), in which he read from a book and made comments, about the very old Jewish (both Ashkenaz and Sephardic) tradition of eating doughnuts during Chanukkah. Does your family do this?
It’s traditional to eat fried foods :) Hence the fries and fried fish. Donuts are also fried of course, but I don’t make them every year especially since going gluten free

I watch your channel because I have found out that my fathers father was Jewish but my grandmother was not and they had 14 children and all were raised catholic. But I was found to have Crones disease and I was asked if I was of Jewish. There was always rumors from my cousins that we were. So I went on ancestry and found out that my great great great great grandfather was from Israel 🇮🇱 and they Went to Berlin Germany his name was Leon in English and his son was Joseph he came to America with his wife which I can’t remember her name. So I want to know all about judism. And I find I have a lot of traits as well as the Crones which I understand Jewish families get.thank you for sharing your videos.

I need to try this recipe myself. I usually cheat and buy frozen battered fish (lazy option). Fish and chips a firm favourite meal here I the U.K. The usual options at the fish and chip shop here are cod, haddock or plaice but I have seen tilapia on the menu in a few too but not as traditional. :)

No problem w/getting fried fish (cod or haddock but fried perch when you can get it is best) up in Wisconsin. We are known for Friday night fish fries up here. Just about every restaurant in Wisconsin has a fish fry every Friday night. Ours stem from when Catholics were forbidden from eating meat on Fridays (& fish was dirt cheap). Fresh lake perch really is best for a fry-up. (Michigander here) There's a restaurant about twenty minutes away from us that has an amazing fish fry. And now I want fried fish, which we are not prepared to make, nor can we afford until tomorrow. Sigh.

Today I watched a video by Henry Abramson (who teaches Jewish history), in which he read from a book and made comments, about the very old Jewish (both Ashkenaz and Sephardic) tradition of eating doughnuts during Chanukkah. Does your family do this?
It’s traditional to eat fried foods :) Hence the fries and fried fish. Donuts are also fried of course, but I don’t make them every year especially since going gluten free

Don’t edit your husband out of your videos. It makes your videos more family oriented and very nice to see how your family carry on your traditions. I watch your channel because I have found out that my fathers father was Jewish but my grandmother was not and they had 14 children and all were raised catholic. But I was found to have Crones disease and I was asked if I was of Jewish. There was always rumors from my cousins that we were. So I went on ancestry and found out that my great great great great grandfather was from Israel 🇮🇱 and they Went to Berlin Germany his name was Leon in English and his son was Joseph he came to America with his wife which I can’t remember her name. So I want to know all about judism. And I find I have a lot of traits as well as the Crones which I understand Jewish families get.thank you for sharing your videos.

I need to try this recipe myself. I usually cheat and buy frozen battered fish (lazy option). Fish and chips a firm favourite meal here I the U.K. The usual options at the fish and chip shop here are cod, haddock or plaice but I have seen tilapia on the menu in a few too but not as traditional. :)

Good morning Chana! Since my dad and brothers loved to fish, I grew up eating fried fish, REAL fried potatoes and my mom's homemade tarter sauce. A true gourmet meal! The birthday cakes was such a great idea for a kid's birthday! You always make me smile. Have a great week!

No problem w/getting fried fish (cod or haddock but fried perch when you can get it is best) up in Wisconsin. We are known for Friday night fish fries up here. Just about every restaurant in Wisconsin has a fish fry every Friday night. Ours stem from when Catholics were forbidden from eating meat on Fridays (& fish was dirt cheap). Fresh lake perch really is best for a fry-up. (Michigander here) There's a restaurant about twenty minutes away from us that has an amazing fish fry.
And now I want fried fish, which we are not prepared to make, nor can we afford until tomorrow. Sigh.
