  • It's another round of College Football Playoff Picks on this Kings of the North.
Doug Lesmerises and Bill Landis made their first picks in February, and they are back for Round 2 after taking in spring football.
First, they look at all the contenders from the South.
Is Texas or Georgia a bigger monster?
Is Missouri or Ole Miss a more interesting upstart?
Which young QB at Tennessee or Oklahoma is more likely to lead a playoff run?
Then they make their picks, with adjustments from February, and with some teams staying the same. Where are Michigan, Penn State, Iowa, Utah and West Virginia as playoff contenders? Is Ohio State or Oregon more likely to win the Big Ten?
Get all those picks here, and thanks for joining Kings of the North.

No Doug. Don't give in to those people who want this to be a national show. This is the one bastion of northern football. The South can cram it

It should be a northern take on national football. But talking about teams like Purdue and Syracuse is pointless. The south could care less that there is a podcast that they don’t want to listen to.

@@jordanmadden7388 And I could care less the South could care less. They can go watch Finebaum. And there are plenty of national shows to watch if you don't want to hear about northern teams outside of Ohio State and whoever else

The main draw for this show to me is the fact that it looks at the sport through the prism of northern football. So many of the other CFB podcasts/videos I consume have a disproportionate SEC slant on things that it's really refreshing to hear about schools north of the Mason-Dixon line. It'd be foolish of me to think that you'll ignore the south once the season starts but I hope it doesn't threaten to eat into the remit of what this show is about.
Anywho as to this episode....Is it me or did Doug almost say "I swear to Christ" early on? LOL Anyways, Doug brings up a great point about Georgia and the toughness of their schedule. It's definitely not a trollish thing to say they could end up 9-3. There's going to be some consternation with the committee for sure. Thing is, I can guarantee the committee will find some way to vote brand over reality and there WILL be lots of bruised egos amongst the other SEC schools.

IMO, no 3 loss team is getting into the CFP the first year of the 12 team playoff. But UGA hasn’t lost a regular season game since 2020. Not saying that UGA is going undefeated, but I don’t see 3 losses on their schedule . 2 maybe, but not 3. Too much talent. They’ll have some dogfights for sure and I don’t see them overall dominating like years past, but they’re a tough out and not falling off a cliff this season. They’re going to be a good team.

A discussion of Georgia at 9 and 3 is a pointless exercise, as the probability of that happening is miniscule, at best. And I say that as an Oregon Ducks fan that's not affiliated with Georgia, the SEC, or that region of the country in any way, shape, or form.

I am an OSU fan. But there is no way GA goes 9-3. They handily beat everyone except Bama for the last 2 years. They might lose 1 on the road and definitely not 3.

Last season a 9-3 LSU and even a 10-2 Oklahoma would both have been left out. Getting in with three losses is going to be next to impossible.

This will be Kirby's best and deepest team. But it is a brutal schedule. Depth will be the key to what happens at the end of the year for all the contenders.

What if the ACC had a 1 loss champ and the runner up also had 1 loss. Do you see a 1 loss ACC runner up get in over a 9-3 Georgia?

The two super conferences, SEC and Big Ten, are almost like NFL divisions. The Green Bay Packers got into the playoffs last season with a 9-8 record. I’m not saying that a team that is barely over .500 will ever make it into the playoffs, but it is almost guaranteed that the 4th or even 5th best team in either of these super conferences will be better than the 2nd best team in the ACC, B12. Particularly if they still keep playing conference championship games, if you count the loss in that game, I think the SEC will often have a 3 loss team in the playoff.

Michigan still has a top 3 Defense in the country and if they can win one game against either Texas, Oregon, or OSU, they will go 10-2 and be in the playoff.
