Hotel Review - Tan-Tar-A, Estate

While attending a conference this past winter, Tan-Tar-A oversold and wasn't able to provide me with the room I booked in the main resort complex. To make things right (versus sticking me in one of the little rooms in the basement of one of the Estates), they placed me in the suite on top. Tan-Tar-A rents out about half of the units in the Estates Complex - basically freestanding homes subdivided into hotel rooms. It's quite a unique setup. Others are normal, privately owned homes. Some are former resort rentals that are now privately owned and rented out on sites like AirBNB and Homeaway.
This unit - resort-owned 7000 - had loads and loads of character and 70's charm. The layout was something like a funhouse with stairs all over the place. The actual unit, while dated, was very clean and functional featuring great views and a huge outdoor patio. Given the "cabin in the woods" feel Tan-Tar-A is going for, I could totally get past the dated decor and really enjoyed my stay.

Regardless of the upkeep, when a small place is chopped up into quasi-random rooms or apartments that are a bit plentiful for the space, it's called a "Slumlord's Special".

Loved this vdeo; again, coffee pot spots are probably from hard water. Lake has a drawdown in December in expectation of spring rain, snowmelt which will bring up the level.

I sure wish I had your kind of luck. Being upgraded to a sweet suite. This is absolutely wonderful and, unlike the main resort (and yes, I've seen both of those), everything works. I would totally stay here.
