  • It's been in my family for almost 17 years, and I've been driving it for almost 9. And of course, it's made countless appearances in my RUclips videos. I thought it was finally time to respond to the many requests I've received to do a detailed tour of my car. It's really hard to say enough good things about the 2000 Avalon. The interior is ridiculously spacious, the seats are some of the most comfortable I've ever been in, and visibility is incredible in all directions. It performs beautifully during city driving. The smooth transmission, soft suspension, and quiet cabin make for a really pleasant experience. Likewise, the roomy interior and comfortable seats are ideal for long highway trips. Almost everyone that rides in this car comments about its comfort. My mom maintained it beautifully throughout it's early life, and I've done my best to do the same as it ages. I'm a bit obsessed with keeping up on maintenance, keeping the car clean, and even doing small upgrades from time to time. In the last few years, those have included:
-New shocks/struts (front replaced twice, believe it or not)
-Replacing all exterior lights with new daylight halogen bulbs, almost twice as bright as the originals
-Adding a new JVC stereo (connected to the fantastic original JBL sound system)
    -Adding blind spot mirrors
    -Reupholstering the center armrest/storage bin
-Touching up the exterior paint (though I didn't do the best job at this)
I'm very sentimental about this car since, well, it's been around for most of my life and I have tons of memories in it. It's been extremely reliable, and I think I'll get many more years of use out of it.

Glad to see it being enjoyed. The Avalon is one of the best kept secrets by AARP members. It's a Toyota so it will probably last forever. These will go to 400k miles easily.

Make sure you look it over really good, take it somewhere honest, have them look it over.
The only caveat about owning an Avalon is that parts are expensive, since it's basically a Lexus.
you also want to make sure that it was maintained very well, make sure the tires aren't old, among other things.

I still have my 98 model and she's earned a forever home. It's been such a good car. How do you not throw money at a car if it hasn't cost you anything it's whole life so I bought new 17 inch rims and z rated tires and a sound system. Just ordered adjustable coilovers so I can adjust it's ride height and have it perform better. Because it's a sleeper right from the factory. What a fast little sedan it is. I've kept up with a few well known powerhouses.

What a beautifully maintained car! We also have a 2000 XLS and have had it since 2003. It's the nicest and most reliable car I've ever had. My son (who's 12) was almost born in it! He loves to tell that story. About a week ago, I had a deer (I can see you cringing) jump out into the driver's side. The front light, fender, both doors and side mirror are all toast. I had a friend come over and pull the fender forward so I can get the door open as the window was stuck 1/2 way. I was paranoid about driving it in the rain and there's threat of an ice storm this weekend. My nephew had just detailed it about a week before this happened. We were able to get the door panel off and get the window (which was oddly still intact) up and now it goes up and down, but I can't open the car from the outside. We've had several things replaced under the hood and it still runs beautifully. We are looking at an 07 Limited to purchase. As much as I hate a car payment, we may have to suffer for the sake. This will be our 3rd Avalon; we had a 95 before the 2000. Thanks for the video; it makes me sad for an end to an era but looking forward to making new memories with a new (to us) Avalon. Oh, by the way, we are keeping the 2000; we will just deal with dents in it!

tdstray4 Sorry to hear about the accident. I ended up sinking about $3000 into mine after a bunch of random issues popped up in the span of a few months. Briefly considered picking up a gently used Subaru Outback, but I ultimately decided that I could probably breath at least 5 more years of life into my Avalon with those repairs. Seems well worth it given the low mileage and condition. Plus the added fact that I love the car :)

This is an old video, but I just had to comment - I have a 2003 Toyota Avalon XLS that I bought when I passed my license in 2019. I LOVE it. Like you said, it allows you to sit high in the car and see practically everything. There's plenty of room for me and any of my friends. It feels much better than my parents' later Toyota models; I like to say, "I drive a tank" or "I drive a small land boat", haha.
I will never sell this car - I plan to drive it until it drives no more! I have approx. 140k miles on it currently, still runs great.

I'm getting a Toyota Avalon next week this will be my third toyota my other two was a Camry and tercel. I must admit they arent very powerful, though respectable for on ramp acceleration. What has impressed me is I wrecked my Camry in a bad wreck (50+mph collision) and everything failed the way it was supposed to for a 20 year old car and the tercel though I knew engine failure was inevitable it went until it finally couldn't then limped home. I loved the affordable parts and they are a bit easier to work on than most. My only complaint on Toyota is their plastic mainly connectors aren't very brute friendly and break if youre not careful though otherwise I cannot complain. Side note most of my Toyota dealers are very insightful and most the service guys drive toyotas

Ryan Doonan It is pretty cool, but almost all the miles it has are city miles... and many of those have been spent on the brutal streets in St. Louis. We never used this car for highway trips growing up and I've only taken it outside the state a handful of times myself. I've actually had to replace the front struts twice along with plenty of other suspension work over the years.

I'm lukewarm on the cars they're producing today. Got a 2015 Corolla as a rental a while back that was pretty nice.

The Elevator Channel they seem to be doing pretty well. A family meet of mine just bought a 2017 Toyota camry XLE. My all time favorite Toyota lineup are the abalone from. 2006-2011

Looks like it retailed in the upper $20,000s back in late 1999 when my parents bought it. It was gifted to me in 2008.

8:21 Maybe they moved it more forward for the 2001 model. Maybe the 2018 Avalon'll have dual sunvisors. Or maybe back then it was a problem that they've been able to fix since then

Great review, looks really good for a 16 year old car, btw I also have dual sunvisers on my '94 Buick Park Avenue. Is your stereo just a radio with DVD player or is it also a Navigation?

    • @TheElevatorChannel
      @TheElevatorChannel  7 лет назад

No navigation. I upgraded so I could play music off my phone and have hands-free calling. The original stereo just had a 6-CD changer and cassette deck.

Any minor or major differences between this 2000 model and the 2003, I see that’s the 2003 model has a better rating online and can’t decide between the 2000, 2001 or 2003 model, thanks in advance

That trapdoor was not meant for if you locked the keys in the trunk, because most Americans would not fit in there and you can't reach in there because the trunk is so big your arms likely aren't long enough. Also if you locked the keys in the trunk, the car would have to be unlocked for you to get to the trapdoor. That trapdoor is likely for sticking boards through the trunk so they will fit, not that you need any more space back there.

If you do not mind, and if this car is still with you, then
we can talk, I do not mind. I love this car to her 13 years. I still enjoy
driving. We have very few such cars here. For this reason, I have to seek
communication about my beloved car with the opposite side of the planet :)

that access hole from the cabin of your car to your trunk is meant for longer items such as skis.

I work in the natural gas compression and processing industry, and have witnessed many fires caused by low and high voltage arc flash from loose wires/contacts. That vanity mirror light is a potential fire hazard, as each potential oscillation introduced to the suspension could cause tiny arcs, which then increases current draw, and thus heat rejection into surroundings.
