    One underrated aspect of this movie i rarely ever see appreciation for is the magnificent sound design. The sound effects in this movie sound absolutely phenomenal and help make this movie incredibly immersive.

    As unrealistic as this scene is, it’s still a masterful display of imagination. In real life, a 179% downhill grade would cause the engines to explode due to the train’s weight and altitude angle. But the sound design as well as Tom Hanks’ scream really drives home the excitement in this scene.

    • @shibainu2528
      @shibainu2528 10 месяцев назад +10

      I don't know how to not sound passive aggressive so apologies, but "the train exploding" I feel like is only one problem. Aside from the direction change from down to up causing the train to be "heavier" for a bit (An object in motion remains in motion) plus the fragility of the tracks built out of toothpicks would cause them to break. Plus, I don't know how trains work, but I feel like at the speed they are at, the hills would cause the train to fly off the tracks, again, Newton's first law.
      But yeah, the sound design is great for this scene and at many other points in the movie. The mixture of camera angles and switches between inside and outside the cabin really sells how fast the train is going, alongside the weightlessness of the hills and the strong "gravity" of the... what do you call them, valleys? The opposite of a hill.
      Point is, great scene. Unrealistic, but it doesn't have to be when you are dealing with fiction. That's what make most fictional works fun (Not implying that nonfiction isn't fun)

    • @killer92173

    For those that don’t know, the first sign on the left says “danger 179% grade” which means the track is going up and down 179ft over 100 feet making this track more than mountain grade which at minimum is only 3%

    • @alexrose9507
      @alexrose9507 2 года назад +13

      Actually, I think it said 179° not 179%. Because, if it was 179 feet over 100 feet the gradient would be around 60°, but in the scene it is clearly almost vertical (around 180°). But then again, my maths may be wrong.

    • @WorthyEpert1

      @@alexrose9507 being honest, I thought it was an error on the designers part or whoever because I have not once seen a grade sign using the degree symbol
