Have to say of the several RUclips channels I view on Mavic and drones in general I get the most out of watching DFG! Thanks for all you put into these videos!
I've used my pro with ND filter's 8 and 16 while in AUTO exposure, and the camera's auto adjustment to higher light area's (i.e. sunny sky) is surprisingly smooth... almost negligible, and can be removed in post very easy...Manual is smoother in good lighting areas if you know that's the only lighting condition you'll be filming in..... as your video demonstrates, but I film in wide arrays of lighting conditions, for example dropping down from a sunny sky to the shady side of a valley and filming the darker valley... I must say AUTO footage is just better, but only with that ND filter, as it cuts the cameras auto adjust work way down. In all but extreme cases, the lighting transition is smooth and unnoticeable... thx for the work you do...
I just ordered the Mavic Pro and have been looking for some beginner tips and insight. Finally.. I found these guys who fit the bill perfectly with quality professional info sans nonsense. thank you for the extensive efforts put forth to bring knowledge to people, both with photo/film background and those without.
Thank you! For sure, we've been doing this a while and our opinions are based on our experience. We don't just recycle videos others post on YT...just saying!!!
I really enjoy watching your videos. I used your recommendations from some of your previous videos and really liked it. Just updated my firmware and lost all the settings again! Then I found this one. Thanks for putting it all together!
Could you please put a link in the description to the video you refer to which has looked closely at the style settings please? I can't find the channel you refer to. Many thanks.

I think you're the only channel that does not use D-Log.. Im going to be filming with a a7rii and Mavic, should I not use DLOG either to keep consistent look?
This was a great video, to the point, practical, and very useful. Gave me every single thing I wanted to know and didn't leave me searching for more tips.
I came to this video looking for a way to reduce the left/right YAW movement sensitive to less than 0.2 No matter how steady I try, I cannot move the sticks as smooth as I want to. Is there a 0.05 setting???
Amazing video mate. I have a quick question. Now I am filming in d-log with sharpness -1. Do u think that is better change to cine-like -1 -1 -1? Is this improving the color and dynamic range? Thanks in advance.
Excellent stuff for new Mavic owners, appreciate your homework and efforts. Plus I love your home country, shot a documentary there a decade ago, probably one of the most beautiful places on Earth, you're lucky you get to shoot drone footage there, the Scottish countryside makes every shot look epic and majestic.
Thanks a ton for all the information you put out here. Your channel is easily the best source of information for filming using drones. If I could suggest another topic: do an in-depth video for grading 😎
That's really good of you to say so. We're not posting too often so as to keep the quality of the content as high as possible. We have covered a fair bit of colour correction/grading here but we'll be revisiting it at some point: ruclips.net/video/Rrxq7x8U7HM/видео.html
Thanks a lot for uploading. I am a new mavic pro owner and this video was very informative and great help. I now have some footage that I can be proud of. Thanks😊
That was the most helpful video ive I've seen so far, only had my Mavic for a week, no nothing about the technical side of photography, but this answers some things that I've come across already. I can fly a drone, but taking good video, which is what I bought it for, escapes me. I'll be out this afternoon with some new settings, thanks I am now subscribed
Thanks so much... really helpful stuff. I used your recommended settings and I'm now getting much better footage. I still have a long way to go... all the best!
Yet another well presented, technical guide. thank you. Very interesting and I shall be trying out this information to capture (appropriately) The Flying Scotsman this weekend.
Fantastic useful video thank you so much. It’s rare to have the knowledge spoken of so clearly and cleanly. I look forward to dialing up the settings and shooting some smooth Cine-Log footage. On that note, what LUT to start with?
Excellent. ive subscribed and look forward to checking out more of your videos. Just about to get a mavic pro as upgrade for ph3 advanced after building my own aerial platforms many years ago. Technology has moved so quickly!!
When you talk about the noise reduction issue on the Mavic, is this a firmware thing? I mean, seeing this video is 9 months old this might have been resolved by one of the newer updates?
Excellent informative video. Good to have all the info in one well produced video instead of having to hunt around the net. Looking forward to hearing your opinions and advice on ND filters, I shall hold off on buying a set until then.
Thanks for the tips! But have you used updated version of D-Log? In your previous video you compared D-Cinelike with old D-log profile, which didn't have any advantages in dynamic range. But newer 2017 version has noticeable wider dynamic range compared to D-Cinelike + more correct color reproduction. Have you tested it already?
Great video! Thank you. The depth of detail was very helpful. Out of the box, the Mavic, is a bit overwhelming; particularity video settings. You've provided a nice baseline to continue to experiment with. Nice job; separating it all out!
Hello! Thank you for all of this GREAT information! I don't completely understand what the verdict was on focus. Should I leave it on auto or manual? I definitely screwed up a lot of footage when I needed to fly quickly and the slider for manual focus went off.
Very helpful tutorials, thank you for doing these. I have seen a great improvement in the way I fly and film after watching and implementing your advice. Cheers. LD
I’ll try and sign up. I have a Phantom 2, Phantom 3 standard, Spark, and I was finally able to buy a used Mavic pro. I’m having trouble getting my Mavic to film even as clear as my Spark. I upgraded my SD card and am going to see if that works. I will check your videos and see if I can figure it out.
Thanks so much! Super useful! I really agree that it is important to be able to fly without the Intelligent Flight modes. They are super cool, but a bit limiting for close in work. The Mavic makes a great tight boom camera and I use it to replace a slider believe it or not. Works great for shooting cars. Great video as always and thanks so much for taking the time! Franny
Same for us...70% of what we do is low level, jib type stuff so nice smooth manual settings are key. Thank you for your continued interest in the channel!
Great video. Quick comment and question. A problem with 'auto exposure' is that you lose control over iso on the Mavic (no idea why). And the Mavic will often put you into iso 200 when it is unnecessary - say 1/160. This leads me to 'guess' that the inherent 'native' iso is 200 rather than iso100. Have you ever looked into this?
I could figure all this out by myself. It should only take about 30 years. Many thanks for making this much easier! I know you focus on the cinematic, but I'd love an episode regarding the best place to get royalty-free audio tracks? Love your channel. Cheers!
If it is closer to the look you are ultimately going for then by all means but if it's because you're looking for a flatter profile that will give you more detail in the highlights and shadows etc etc., then I'm not sure about that. Check out the colour grading video we did and you'll see our take on it: ruclips.net/video/Rrxq7x8U7HM/видео.html
The motion blur is linked to the ratio between FPS and aperture speed, so if you shot in 30 fps with an aperture speed of 1/60 or 60fps with an aperture speed of 1/120, there is no difference in term of motion blur, right?

Great Video. Thanks from a new Mavic User. I am undecided on D-Log / D Cinelike - Will do some tests on that and colour grading to see which suits me. I do have a question though, related to the very last section of your video regarding Sensitivity. You touched on YAW, but didn't make any changes to Attitude or Brake values. They seem to be left as the default. Would changing those values have any effect on Cinematic shooting ?
Hi Stuart, thank you for the great tutorials you have provided. I am rather new with this drone, but I already love it. I have an amateur question that I thought you could help me with, or anyone else that could comment on this. What is the easiest way to exit from a programmed shot so I can regain manual control of the drone. I was doing a point of interest orbital and once the orbit was completed it just wanted to keep going into another full orbit. I finally just hit the return to home and that seem to end it, but what’s the best way to end a programmed shot, and continue on with manual flight. Thank you very much.
Hey! You should see a little red cross on the app which allows you to exit the move. There is also a pause button on the controller you can press to stop the move while you are looking on the app for the cross. Cheers!
i was wondering if u know what settings i would need to put my gopro to match the settings you have for drones. Im not sure if im going to color grade yet because thats alot if extra work n learning. I put the mavric at -1-1-1 d-cinelike just like your video. Im not sure if i should change it if i dont plan to colorgrade? But i want the film colors to match at least. Great info and advice I've subscribed to your channel one of then best on RUclips. On another note my wife and I are going to tour Scotland from Aug 27 to September 27 for the 12th time in 30 years, my wife's family was from Montrose she was the only one born here in USA. I concerned about bring my Mavic Pro due to entering the country via Heathrow and all the foolish regulations countries are imposing on travelers bring drones, do you have any advice, or have you heard anything that should send up red flags in getting fines, paying fees, having to register, or get the drone confiscated , etc?
Hi thank you very help full, the only thing and this could be language thing English being my second language but the Focus AF/MF is still not clear for me what would be best for beginner but easily one of my favorite RUclips tutorial, i am in Divisor(J-P)
if im european living in US what should i go for? 24 or 25 fps? :D eheh ... no seriously, if I live in the US would there be a problem using 25 fps? Or would it not be optimal due to being different electricity frequencies between US vs Europe?
Thank you for saying so! Yes, they should do. On the P4 I think the settings only go down to 0.2 as opposed to 0.1 on the Mavic but the same principle applies, get it dialled right down.

I can't say I have because we never use auto exposure so I'd be lying if I said I had an opinion...sorry!!
Great video! One question, do you keep the plastic dome on your lens when you fly or do you remove it?

Thanks for your kind words! We get our music from the RUclips royalty free library. If you google it you'll get to the right page.
A couple month ago Art color profile was the way to go. With Litchi you can still use Art. How do you feel about the Art profile?

I do have a question though, related to the very last section of your video regarding Sensitivity. You touched on YAW, but didn't make any changes to Attitude or Brake values. They seem to be left as the default. Would changing those values have any effect on Cinematic shooting ?
Good question. We've never changed them because we've never had a problem with them. Focus has always been on achieving a useable yaw.
At 8:22 where do I find that focus peaking option?? I can't find it anywhere. I use a Galaxy S5 btw (and it works very well).
Cheers!

thank you for lesson sir 👍👍👍 I only have 1 drone with is - MP.this sharing knowledge tremendously helpful.
if im european living in US what should i go for? 24 or 25 fps? :D eheh ... no seriously, if I live in the US would there be a problem using 25 fps? Or would it not be optimal due to being different electricity frequencies between US vs Europe?
I love your channel. keep it going as it's helping me LOADS. Do the yaw settings apply to DJI P3S?
thanks!
Thank you for saying so! Yes, they should do. On the P4 I think the settings only go down to 0.2 as opposed to 0.1 on the Mavic but the same principle applies, get it dialled right down.
Awesome detail dude, thank you!
