I cannot express enough emotion in 500 characters to say how much this music meant to me and what it means to hear it again all these many roads, miles, wives, loves, kind finds, desperate lies and many walking sticks in the corner ago. Thank you for sharing. Actually, bless you for sharing.
It’s impossible for me to respond to every “thank you” but I do read and appreciate them all immensely. Along with the thanks, all the sharing of personal experiences, private conversations, special invitations, and offers of new friendships, everyone here has given me more back that I ever could imagine. And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make is really true. So to thank everybody who‘s been on this journey with me during the past couple of years, this one is for y’all.
Such a great show. Thanks for uploading
thats a heartfelt and well recieved sentiment my man...
and one more time "Thank you- for making the world more bearable and beautiful
✌🏽
Possibly, well 1 of my favorite jgb songs of all time. Never saw this video before. 78 was my favorite year for a lot of things. Thank you for sharing
Voodoonola2 brother you are human to,no need to be sorry, and dont need to reply my friend. You doing good work, ive watched lots of glorious video you have put on RUclips for us.Stay safe my brother love and respect to you and yours. From matt in new Zealand
fantastic show. 3-18-78 was my first JGB experience. music was still really good then but tough times were right up on the horizon for Jerry + friends.
Vooodoooo....this might be too cool for most viewers!
Jerry at his best. This is stunning. Pure emotion. Everything comes together perfectly. Donna and Maria ROCKED throughout. Enough with the haters. We get it. This show is as close to perfect as it gets.
Maria kept Donna in line. No caterwaltering(probably not correct spelling but first heard describing Donna).Don't hate, I am a fan.
@@williammcdonough2291 lol caterwauling
Donna is part Chocktaw Indigenous Native American and her full throated vocalizations reflect that fact. Bigotry based on ignorance has no place in our GD family. Donna was also a staple part of the Muscle Shoals backup singers back in the day. Now maybe a bit of appreciation.
I've been watching this recording over and over...it brings me to happy tears
Fucking right.
I understand my friend.

My mom died last night. I opened up my UTb and there it was. Thank you Thank you Thank you. Mom would be proud that I can still dance in my kitchen. :)
This is some of the best JG footage ever. Totally engaged with the tunes audience and bandmates - doing HIS thing with HIS band. Unreal. Thanks.
that mission is probably one of my 3 or 4 favorite jer moments ever. from 7:30 till the end of the song, jeesus....
The Grateful Dead were not buried in the 90's....there were some great moments to behold. Check out the Richfield 3/20/94 and 6/6/92 Richfield shows...also 6/20/92 with the post-drumz Casey Jones. Not every show was wonderful, but the parking lots were consistently well attended.
was there and it was epic...always loved jgb, smaller venues and constant changing lineup....such a great time
how late was this "late show"
I'll be With Thee. Nice rarity! Cite this when someone says a certain singer was too rough. (~)})
Best Mission ever! Jerry so joyful at the end. Truly amazing.
Unbelievable. Jerry was the best. Period. I can't beleive how well the music stands up. 70's Jerry was on a different level of musician, the Mt. Rushmore level.
I was wondering when i was gonna finally find someone who shared my point of view as far as how much more enjoyment that jerry got out of playing with his band as opposed to The Grateful Dead. After brent passed and vince came to the band it was the beginning of the end. In the '90's garcia was way tired of everything Grateful Dead, After dead tours jerry would get a small JGB tour going he looked and played great. The huge drag was you hoped he would take that energy to GD but he never did.
And people wonder why he looked twice his age. His amount of stage time is longer than many people were alive if that makes sense...tremendous
This is a goose bump performance. Jerry at his peak, Donna and Keith still in the picture...thank you so much.
Jerry loves 'galloping' over the chords on Love in the Afternoon.. Love it!!
It's hard to pick an era of greatness but IMHO the late 70's were Jerry's best years. I saw him about 50 times from 77-82 and this brings it all back. Thank you for this amazing post. The post about a grown man crying is pretty dam accurate. I am back in heaven. Thank you
I just watched the first song in this video. It is indescribably magnificent. Jerry was not just great. He was the greatest!
Thank you!!
And Tore up?
Tore up is right!! They tore it up!!
5:15 into it, Jerry looks like he's having So much fun! But then about 6min or so..Keith's as silent as a nod. I'm paying for my silent years now..Those shows I don't remember- I wanna kick myself. It's a cold reminder right there in black & white. (apologies for my long posts)
Love this "Mission In The Rain" opener
Anyone notice Jerry lost his glasses at the end? Too much headbanging! Damn, that rocked. I've been a Dead fan for years but never listened to TJGB and I must say I find this quite spectacular.
Jerrry always seems more joyful, to me, when he's playing with JGB versus GD. He's smiles alot more when playing with JGB.
Love the way Jerry tears up Tore Up
WOW. Another Gem. Love your work. To get a chance to look back on the man we all loved is heart warming. Myself I did not see a show till the following year. Bummer but still lucky to jump in with both feet back then.
Thank you Thank you Thank you. Your work is great
Thank You VooDoo - The Mission is .*.*.*. MAGIC .*.*.*.
This really is great stuff! The night before the concert released in the "Pure Jerry" series, and just as good. Jerry was really excited about Cats Under the Stars, plus he had a great band, obviously. You can hear that he was really feelin' the vocals especially.
So cool to watch and not just listen, such a treat...🌹
The Dixie cover is unreal - 52:16
But you know he chose his place beside her.
Most pure performance ever. Yup
28:45 This sh/t is on fire people!
It is quite obvious that this is a labor of love for you. Obviously you have put in a tremendous amount of time. It was truly nice to read what you said here. I met Billy the night before the Providence shows in 1987. He told a few of us that WE were the reason that they kept on touring. Your words here reminded me of that night. Its nice to be appreciated, your family loves you.
"I'll Be With Thee" gives me chills. Love, love, love this! Thank you so much.
John drops insanity bombs during Rhaps
Great year for JGB. Jerry was still sharp and inspired. Donna and Maria blended so well. Love Keith's Russian Lullaby solo.
One of My all time fave Jerry Band shows!! great Era for JGB.... I love all the incarnations.. Just really love this energy..
Lickety yum, and then some from the Wolf. Jerry is on top of it, so is John and Keith...
Holy shi#* Voodoonola, this absolutely shreds, thanks soo much. I only saw this JGB lineup once, December 8th 1977 The Palace Theater in Albany NY, people didn’t believe me how fired up Garcia was, totally shredding his strings on many songs. Garcia was such a road beast, between the last time I saw the Dead in ’77, 11/6 in Binghamton to the ’78 East coast Spring tour, JGB Band played 50 shows, many early and late shows, it’s no wonder his voice is a little raspy. Great stuff, thanks again!!
Thank you! Keith
I could watch this every day for 34 years and in no way get tired of it. Listen to his voice it gets no better. I do absolutely feel lucky to have been at this show. Mr. voodoo job well done,as usual.
Jerry sounds good all the time ! Girls sounded good when i was there but i was totally Fuck-UP...!!!
Wow..those vocals on Rhaspody are absolutely horrid...c'mon ladies...otherwise great show..
thru the failure, and success, I'll understand when you've done your best-Donna Rocks heh heh..
Whoosh...the backup singers were the worst Ive ever heard in a "pro" band. How could Jerry have put up with that? Wow. Just plain bad. Jerry was great though.
the one on the right sang backup for elvis
And the 90,000 people did NOT tune in to see a couple of squalling out-tune-chicks, they tuned in to see JG doing his thing.
Donna was a terrible choice, but she was Keith's wife and Bobby's girlfriend, and those two were pretty important to the band, so she stayed.
Also, subjective analysis is what music is all about, unless you employ the objective method of an electronic tuner, which would clarify beyond all doubt that Donna (much worse than Maria Muldaur) cannot carry a tune in a bucket.
David Keith That's Donna Godchaux and Maria Muldaur.
***** Not all of us want fame buddy...
Listen to David's comment below. He sums it up well.
Harry Angus Ya, I know. That's the problem...
This concert is truely fun to listen to, both with your ears and soul. And from what I can see of Jerry he was truely having a great time, the music flowed from deep within and ran strait into the crowds heart. I really wish I would have been able to see him, and I now call myself a modern day Jerry Garcia fan, and The Dead! But something about those magical wizard fingers of Jerry wow...
I know the word gets thrown around quite a bit these days, but this is epic. I love these videos, it adds life and personality to the music. Jerry jamming out at the end of Mission is something special, especially for those of us who only saw the somnambulant Garcia of the late 80's & 90's.
Add another "thank you" to the pile. Yours is the only channel I've ever subscribed to. It's so great to have all these vids compiled in one place. I cannot thank you enough for all the time and effort you've put into creating this library of great shows.
How late we talkin here
yeah
Are you still up I'm not ima going to bury my head in my pillow okay good night good morning sweetie
46:45
Such sublime vocals, this song- love it!
this is totally amazing find....HEAVY ROTATION. Spring '78 was an incredible time for JGB and Jerry's playing at this stage was so insane...
Lovely, lovely comments for this video....
Jerry just goes off on Mission.
I grew up in New Orleans. Buried most of my friends there . Some of them were dead !
It has nothing at all to do with living in the past. I am pretty sure there is a ton of people who see things exactly the way that i do. Billy Kreutzmann has said that he and jerry were having a little talk and he told jerry he would not let all the magic that happened be tarnished by trying to fill a pair of shoes that were just way to big to fill. I am extremely fortunate to have seen all the shows that i did. Most people would give their first born to see half of them. I am not bragging.PEACE
Bro, i gotta tell ya there is no other way of saying or feeling what you typed in man. This is one of thee top 5 things i have ever seen on youtube.Going on the road back when this was happening was like our private party that most people never knew was happening. The music the dope the liquid it was the fucking best.It is this kinda stuff i miss the most there was nothing that even came close.Unless this was the early show and the late show was an hour or so away.PEACE.
Maria and Donna never did heroin... Jerry and John were kindred souls with the same Demons.. No one forces people to do anything.. John played in every band Jerry had outside of the Dead.. even before Heroin entered the scene.. Why did He use John then.. Why did Kooper and Bloomfield use Him on their CLASSIC live album from1969 ( pre Heroin)..He met Maria Muldaur after Her bass player left during Her Midnight at the Oasis tour.. John stepped in and learned 20 songs in an hour.. A little History
the nite of the green leprechaun blotter
green everywhere
even when pulled over by piscataway cops on the way home
officer, "Whats your name?"
"Mark"
"Mark who?"
"Mark Mark!!"
perplexed cop hands license and registration back to driver and shakes head
and leaves....
ahhh the 70s - the real good old days
everything I just shared is second hand from my best friends at the time......
Went to the early show that night. Used to go to shows at the Capitol all the time. I always thought it was kind of crazy that they had those two black & white screens on either side of the stage. So happy they did now.
I remembering leaving the early show and thinking $8.50 plus 1.50 for Ticketmaster and they only played 8 songs. What a ripoff, more than $1 per song.
Now they're just priceless.
i was at this show with one hell of a cute mama, Kiki from Middletown, thanks for making me feel like a million that night, even if it was our only date. I finally did get that motorcycle, wish i had it back then when i could have taken you away on it. I still think of you every time I hear Tore Up Over You
Make that 4 times a day for 34 years. The only reason we went out to that fine town of passaic was to catch this kinda stuff. It does not get any better than this and it never will. Am i wrong for digging this so much that i will never go to a furthur show.It just does not feel right. No garcia no dead or garcia band.
Bro do you hear yourself ? You can't because if you could you realize how clueless you sound. I mean you are sooo way off in everything you wrote. If you can"t dig this you just don't get it .If you saw anyof this tour you were just sitting in a seat that someone who could dig this should"ve been sitting in.
Sorry folks but can't help myself on this one I just FFFFFFF....ing love it your amazing for finding this and posting it. The coolest guys and girls in the bussiness movin grovin slippin and omg just flat out ripping it to shreds. This is where Donna fit in the best with JGB the Mystery Cats aas they were called.
One of my favorite tours JGB 78….saw about 8
Jerry with the fist pump at the end of Dixie AWESOME
We would go to the early shows, too, then go a late shw, somewhere else. Being in NY, it very unfortunetly wasn't The Dead we saw at The Beacon early show or at the lateshow downtown, at The Palladium. Back in the '70's, of course
very very accurate, we used to call those early 80s shows "the bronchitis shows", knowing full well that a set of vocal chords could be frozen by benzene/acetone distilled coca leaves In the 70s, most were done using ether
Obviously not the same without Jerry but no sense living in the past. Phil has still got some thump left in that bass and Bobby was on fire the other night on Weir Here with Warren Haynes!
Also, I hear you. Can't remember how many shows I saw at The Capitol, in NJ (from NJ). There was a bar to the side.....It's almost like who didn't you see at the Capitol TheAtre in NJ
Lightning are you commenting on stuff in the same way i do? I will give you a pass though, this time but after this you will be kicking up at least 3 and a half points per saying. PEACE
Would this be the late show of that night? I have a different show that's purported to be the early show (3/17/78a).Anyway, this looks awesome. Love them '78 shows!
Thanks for uploading!
Not a big Dead guy. But I can't help but like them. Especially Jerry he just has a blast on stage and plays guitar so unique.Again I can't help but like them.
look at about 32:15 in the timer. Song break, donna leans over to cover him and keith shakes a bag and takes a hit, and then another. That's balls!
Joseph,
90,000 people are clearly not listening very closely then. lol. But, if you were ever on tour back in the day when they're actually singing everybody agreed that they ssucked and wish they wouldn't have been singing. If you don't remember that you were not there. It was unanimous.
And btw, are you sure I'm not famous? Just a thought...
And the 90,000 people did NOT tune in to see a couple of squalling out-tune-chicks, they tuned in to see JG doing his thing.

How do you come across this info...sounds great and I loved all that John did for the music. DId he know Maria because of her stints with Jerry??
Great line. made me look twice thinking ok maybe I will forward to that point then really looked at your comment. Maybe best one I have ever read.
Great video -- thank you! oh man, why is John Kahn's' solo in Russian Lullabye cut off? This could be the most outgoing I've ever heard Kahn.
john schers goons used to scare me .esp when dosed, what a fantastic video I seen so many jerry shows there ,god to I consider myself blessed...
but i saw jgb 3 times in 78 and the dead 6 times in 78... so my knowledge is only second hand about this exact show.... man.
Were there 2 shows that night? An early and a late? Or is my memory playing tricks? If this was a late show, I was there :))
Jazy: If you click the "Show More" link above, Voodoonola included the line up for this gig. Thanks Voodoo for the post.
Where are you getting this footage?? I was at this show, grew up in Clifton NJ.
Thats Maria Mulduar singing with Donna Jean
FUCK YEAH THANK YOU!!!
this is the night before the last time Keith and Donna ever played with JGB im pretty sure
Is that Bigfoot or Jerry?? I love the antiquated, grainy footage. Thanks for another kind upload, voodoonola?
Is Keith awake? Somebody needs to pinch him and let him know he's supposed to be soloing during Mission!
Awesome Show!!! Thank You for Posting!! Only took me 3 days to find it, or for it to find me! :)
That kahncentrated solo in the Lullaby is worth the price
Maria M actually sings in tune -- must have been a nice change of pace for Jer (vs Donna).
Someone below commented "I'm gonna cry". I know exactly what you mean. Me too.
Recorded live on my fourth birthday - Happy belated to me - I guess . ; P
Voodoo you have given the best you had to give
Thanks
very sweet...anyone know who the woman backup singer next to Donna is?
The final 2-3 minutes haha, wow!!
who are you and where are you getting all these videos. THANK YOU
Do you have any shows where they play "The Wheel"?
Keith proves you can play a piano solo while passed out 05:45
This was a HOT TOUR! I was at the previous night at the Spectrum in Philly!
and the next night at the Warner March 18th, was as hot or hotter than this one.
Why did you have to leave us so soon? We Love You Gerry G.
