I saw Jerry probably over 150 times since 1973. Haven't been the same since August of 1995, when he died. From Capitan Trips Dark Star, to Mission in the Rain, How Sweet it Was. In 1975 I drove all the way from New York to Stinson Beach, in hopes of meeting him. Was Blessed to live in the Bay Area when he used to play the Oakland Colosseum every New Years, Shoreline Summers, and the Warfield in San Francisco. He taught me a thing or 2 about having heart and soul. When he sang and played guitar, my heart would dance. One of the greatest humans ever. Love you Jerry!

It settled my soul, and left me tearing, smiling, and brought me back into hopefulness. Jerry always had this way about him, and I miss him something terrible...Thanks for this gift!
Happy Birthday Jerry !!! Thank you for sharing all your God given talent, you were blessed with so many !!! Happy 79th !!! You will always be a Shining Star !!!
God bless him always, Jerry Garcia played so many types of songs well, but a soulful love song was right from the heart of him, and you can hear it in every word and note.
This always reminds me of my beloved sister who passed last year! She was definitely a Shining Star! The most selfless human i ever had the pleasure of being around! If a couple of days went by and she didn't hear from me, she would jokingly say.. "What, a ya mad at me?" We never ever had a disagreement!!! And she was even closer to my other sister!! But we had some crazy bond that i will always treasure......... I miss u terribly! RIP Dee!!!

Jerry just stepped back, hands across guitar and surveyed the crowd. He knew he was on Bruce's turf for sure and that just made Bruce rock those ivories even more! This show is legendary!

This is the absolute best version of this song ever performed and is one of many great performances given during 1991 - possibly the last last really strong and exceptionally beautiful year of Jerry's career before the final fall. It was clear he had way more fun in JGB than with the Dead around this time. Love seeing the old man belt it and break out that china cat grin on the last loud choruses of the song - he's having a good time!!
I agree - he was finding more joy with the JGB and with the acoustic Grisman stuff. I wish he could have toned back from the Dead and the frenzy it had all become. the version of this from the Eel River shows is also a really beautiful version
The Dead had a few good years after 1980 but yeah. Things went downhill fast in 1982 but they bounced back a few times. 1989 for instance. But I hear ya.
@@tonis500 LMAO!!! I still love "Dead and Company" though. Especially Oteil, and Jeff interacting with John. The drummers save the day. Especially Billy! He's propelled them down the road/rails with consistent playing from the start. The drummers really keep it going! Jerry was very subtle and understated, in many ways. He was the master of not playing "too much", yet "playing over the top", when needed. He knew what we needed(almost indescribably?), and would often bowl a strike! If he didn't make it, get ready for an amazing spare that's never been done! He'd pull that kind of stuff often. He's not even looking at his guitar while he solos. He just knows it and feels it, like I read him say in an interview he just jumps on little clouds of exploration. Only he does it effortlessly without even looking.
this was best time I ever had at a show. probably was about first to pick a seat, general admission, so I rushed in--1st in line because I was so cold, under dressed, even though really wasn't all that cold. found myself right down front row stage right by roped off section. asked nice people who they were to find out it was Hornsby family and friends. I had stood there outside entrance 1st in line so long asking security lady how long til doors open. I knew this was special show but at time could not realize how significant it was cause I was 19. my friend s who took me said I was in for a real treat. they were little older and had baby boy, and were going wharf rat section so I was seated myself alone-- but then heard some one from behind my name. around and it was old childhood friend I hadn't seen for years. anyway thanks so much Kathy and Mark for taking me my first JGB. all great but my highlights--never can tell, s. star, w world and 2nd emotions plus how sweet, hell it ws all great. went on Charlotte as well.

My dream to have this played at my wedding.. if that day ever comes that is (:
You wanna get married?😉...I thought at the least I could try and put a smiLe on your face. Apologies if offence is taken for being so forward.. even if the intentions weren't to be so bold in such a question to a stranger.
Beyond amazing! The best Shining Star this olde Deadhead ever heard! RIP to the great GARCIA!!! (~);}
Why do I get goosebumps before the song even starts?
IraHayesIraHayes man that's how you know!
cool :)
Sean Sklenar I like your opinion even though your parents named you "sean"
because you know whats coming !!!
You know... it's just the thing all of us dead fans can relate to... it's the magic... and you know real.. at least for us. But either way, we know it's real!
You think any one else will ever get this good one day ?
Honey you are my shining star
Don't you go away, oh baby
I wanna be right here where you are
Till my dying day, oh baby
So many have tried, tried to find
A love like yours and mine, oh baby
Don't you realise how you hypnotise me
Make me love you more each time, oh baby
Honey, I'll never leave you lonely
I'll give my love to you only, to you only
To you only
[chorus]
Feel so good when we're lying here next to each other
Lost in love, oh baby
Honey when we touch, I love you so much
You're all I ever dreamed of, oh baby
Honey, I'll never leave you lonely
I'll give my love to you only, to you only
To you only
Honey you are my shining star, don't you go away
Damn this is good.
I like how he smiles he's really happy, full of love it seems. He's happy to be passing it on to us
So touches my heart!!!!! Thank you!
Miss you every day 😊😊😊
soul full of love. my gosh 💜
Man I love this song..
One of my favorite shows of ALL time! Thanks for posting this!
He's not even looking at his guitar while he solos. He just knows it and feels it, like I read him say in an interview he just jumps on little clouds of exploration. Only he does it effortlessly without even looking.
In truth ...No great seasoned player needs to look at their instrument...It simply not necessary..they' re great
seasoned players..just saying
repetition, hours practice with a lil
Doug Misantoni it’s bad practice to look at what you’re playing.
I was at this show and if I'm not mistaken Bruce Hornsby sat in on this night. Check out far stage right.
The world needs Jerry more than ever.... miss him
this was best time I ever had at a show. probably was about first to pick a seat, general admission, so I rushed in--1st in line because I was so cold, under dressed, even though really wasn't all that cold. found myself right down front row stage right by roped off section. asked nice people who they were to find out it was Hornsby family and friends.
