  • In this video I review this 2005 Mustang GT. This car was a blast to drive but unfortunately I struggled to get traction on the wet roads. This mustang is very tastefully modified but aesthetically and mechanically.

300HP is a nice starting point, FIRST mod for this car, by far the best thing you can get is some 10-11 inch wide rear tires. For anyone who does not know why, it's called traction. Makes a lot of sense with 275's or wider, when you go race it. All your power now hits the road at the same time, and you're just faster in the 1/4 mile. Now, is when you start with the engine upgrades. I seen people make too many horsepower, then they just spin their wheels.

Being born in 1969 and having an uncle that owned a 69 Mach 1, I was obsessed with it. When the S197 came out, I was blown away! The styling of this car is unforgettable and the “Is what it was” campaign hit the nail on the head. The 3V gets a bad wrap, but engines can be modified, but body styling makes this one of the coolest Mustangs ever produced. IMO

About 7 years ago I bought a '07 GT Premium. Had less than 8000 miles on the clock. Car was basically still brand new. There were some aftermarket parts already on it (K&N CAI, Cherry Bomb Pro cat-back exhaust, SSBC brakes) but pretty much stock everywhere else, including the rally striping. The exhaust note with the Cherry Bombs is perfect. It makes it sound reminiscent of the muscle cars from the 1960's and 1970's, beefy without being obnoxiously loud when stepping on the gas. My wife and I like the sound of it so much that during the warmer months of the year when the windows are down, we don't bother turning on the stereo because the engine is making its own music. 👍

These Crown Vics went on to police use, Taxi cabs and Government use vehicles for every branch. I drive a Corvette now but 10 years ago I owned a 2007 Mustang GT. It was a 5 speed manual with 4.10 gears and a magnaflow axelback that had been installed by a previous owner. I added a cold air intake, long tube headers, ORH pipe, hot rod cams and charge motion delete plates. With a 93 octane tune the car made 323 rwhp and sounded absolutely amazing. I still find myself missing that car and watching these kinds of videos.

The Modern Classic, last TRUE Mustang - depending on your stance on the Gen 2 S197s with the 302cui 5.0. This is one hell of a bargain of a car right now

What the hell does the last "TRUE" Mustang mean? That the s550, or the Coyote S197s, aren't real Mustangs because they got a new quad-cam V8 motor - as opposed to the older quad-cam(or lesser in the case of the 3valve and 2valve engines) V8 motor? You realize how ridiculous this claim is, right?

    • @MichaelReeves412
      @MichaelReeves412 2 года назад +9

@@nicholaswidlewski8876 I should rephrase. Rather than saying the “last true mustang” I should say it’s the closest thing to the driving style of the classic 60s mustangs. A 281 small block, no independent rear suspension, and modeled the looks of the 64-70 mustang. The Coyotes or the S550s are mustangs, but it’s got modern tech like Independent Rear Suspension, modern styling with slight cues to the old Mustangs, and a 302 motor which wasn’t very common in early generation 60s mustangs as the 281 was the more popularly sold V8 variant at the time. I should said “this mustang is the most similar to where the mustang first began” due to its dated nature. A downside when compared to modern mustangs, but the closest thing you can get to what the 64-70 mustangs were

That is because everyone that got it in 2005, saw it, and like me said "OH! I Recognize that retro car! Got to have it!". tbh, Ford is really good at making a proper retro that can be recognizable. As for handling, Mine is the 4.0, and it's my only car. So it's a daily driver. We talking I live where it snows in the winter. And I have 0 problems with driving it. Even hit hidden ice under the snow, car whipped out, and I snapped it back in. It's a stick, T5. I had not problems with it road usage. So I am thinking more the driver than the car. Will do the 0 to 60 claim in 6 sec. I like it...

The gearing makes a huge difference in this car, from 3.73 to 3.31 off the line, and the RPM will change and when you need to shift.
I always loved 2nd gear in these 5 speeds, just the way the car sounded mostly that's the thing.
My 2008 is mint condition candy apple red with black leather interior, 18" alloys, I still think it's the prettiest car I ever seen.
This is why I'm saving it until later, It's going to be a classic cruiser some day. It's a rare red color, that changes in the sunlight and Ford only did this I think in 2008.
It reminded me of a custom finish with chameleon a little, which would also be hot. Putting 20' rims on these cars is not actually recommended, but some do look good. This was what some people did back then, 19 is the biggest rim I would go.

I’m 62 and have had several muscle cars over the years. I got an ‘08 GT (5sp) a couple years ago and like it a lot. It feels pretty natural to me but the rear will step out quick if you make a mistake with it. It’s lightly modded, tunes, cats, throttle body, CAI, lowered a little and adjustable BMR rear control arms upper and lower. It was ordered dark cherry metallic with the U stripes and a nice bunch of options including 19in polished mag style wheels. For the money it’s a fun ride, it’s been well taken care of and looks pretty much new. I will say I was surprised a how much it costs to insure! I’ve enjoyed low rates for a lot of years now but I guess the rep of these cars runs the price up some.
I drive pretty hard sometimes and I like the factory shifter.

All things being relative, some 25 yrs later, you will be watching some young man on You Tube going on and on about how crude the latest and greatest 2024 techniques compared to the new 2050 version of the Mustang. They were good for their time. A torquey step up from the PI 4.6. But the tech is coming from the mid-2000s. It just isn't as impressive in 2022, and because they weren't really designed for monster power, they don't have the forged internals like the gen 3 Coyotes do, so you can't put 700 horsepower into them without digging into the motor's guts. If you're looking for more of a cruiser than a bruiser, then these are are a great option.
Also, the looks are a personal opinion, but I love the looks of the S197. And I love the sound of any 4.6 or 5.4. They sound essentially identical to the old Windsor 5.0s in the fox body & SN95. But really only the Terminator and the Shelbys had the forged internals for monster boost.
Also, the S550 is actually 52/48 on the weight distribution in the GT variant. The reason they got into those stupid accidents is because of the absurd power right out of the gate, and how much more is available with even just subtle mods. Weight distribution doesn't matter if you drive like a potato lol

@@TreyGoose First off, who the hell was talking about GM cars? Also, I had detailing jobs in my late teens, and have owned plenty of cars. You're full of crap. Those old f-body interiors bear absolutely no resemblance to the C8 interior. And the current Mustang has much better materials. I currently own an S550, and owned several SN-95s & drove/rode in a buddy's s197 GT500 a hundred times. The interior on the S197 was cramped, and barely a step up from the SN-95s, other than a big change in appearance. Cheap, hard plastic everywhere.

Your lack of traction here was not that bad considering the wet roads. Maybe has to do with the Conintental Extreme Contact Sport tires. The Federal Evoluzion ST-1s I got on the back of my car right now (275/40r19) spin in 3rd gear at 2500RPM. Absolutely NO traction when the roads are the slightest bit damp.
Nice review though by the way!
Yes, these cars are notorious for ending up in the trees, crowds, or ditches, as I've been in a ditch twice (drifting in the rain with stock suspension and bald tires), because of the live rear axle and stock suspension and seriously pathetic soft bushings that flex way too badly. The dampers are WAY too soft, the panhard bar is filled with sand, the panhard bar brace is able to be bent with your two hands, same with the upper control arm and mount (all stamped steel), and the lower control arms are basically useless for anything other then comfort. Once all that is taken car of, these cars handle pretty damn good and are way less susceptible to "pulling a Mustang".
