I like the newly unveiled 2024 Mustang but the S197 Mustang has a retro charm that doesn't age. Whenever I see a good condition 2005 Mustang GT in a parking lot I am still awe struck by how good they look even in 2022. They just look like a real 60's Mustang should in modern day sheet metal. I hope Ford goes back to this shape one day with very minimal changes.

I gotta agree with everyone on the 05-09 Mustang in the looks department, 3 years ago I was lucky to snag a 2005 GT that a friend bought new and only put 27k miles on it, the rest of the time he parked it in the garage. The Shaker 1000 system has got to be the best sounding factory system I've ever heard, before and even at the time i grabbed this car I was a Camaro guy and still am. It's pretty cool having them both, they're very similar in many ways, what's there not to like?

@@robertswift6101 I do agree with you, what speakers did you go with? It's possible at some point I may look into upgrading, there's a few reasons that I'll tell you why I haven't done it yet. I don't drive the car enough, I used to be heavily into car audio for awhile, I once had four 12 inch subs in a 4th gen Camaro Z28, I'll never be able to replicate that system, it was nasty. As far as the stock Shaker 1000 goes, it's nothing like a couple aftermarket systems I've done but for what it is I gotta say I was impressed with it the first time I heard it, I did have to change the head unit to something more modern with Bluetooth. Lastly, I am getting a little older too and unfortunately I can't spend money like I used to. If money was no object then hell yeah I'd upgrade all my cars, haha..

Some people says the best would be to engine swap a Coyote engine and I agree on performance perspective. But good luck finding an engine alone, it's almost better and cheaper finding a complete car and pull out it's engine. Coyote engines alone are rare and they do sell it high sticker price.

Having said that, the 2005 to 2009 was the most reliable of all Mustangs and all Sport cars, muscle cars, etc. The 2010 thru 2023 have some issues which lower the reliability of the Mustang. Check out Consumer Reports where they were surprised how reliable the 2005 thru 2009 Mustang were.

Zero issues and no trips back to the dealer ever. Maintenance is key and no shortcuts should be taken. All fluids were changed ahead of schedule and I was rewarded with the best car I ever owned as far as repairs in my 50+ years of driving. The performance is fine with the 4.6L but certainly no race car. I never used it for that purpose. I'll always have kind words for this model. The Shaker 1000 was offered right off the bat on the S197 models introduced for 2005(not 2006 as Landon said). I bought a new GT in March of 2005 and test drove several cars before purchasing. The dealer mark-ups were crazy back then, with some dealers here in SoCal asking $10,000-15,000 over sticker(for a GT)! I test drove a black GT with the Shaker 1000 and the Interior Upgrade Package, the sticker was $31,000, but the dealer was asking for $36,000, I wasn't interested. I stumbled upon a small dealership in Fullerton CA(it's still in business) that didn't have any mark-ups. I got my Premium GT for $28,000. I then bought a 2006 GT the following year when Ford had 0% financing, I bought a leftover 2009 GT in 2010, this one is loaded with HID headlamps, Glass Roof and Ambient lighting. Even though it's just a V6, the Grandpa owner before me put on true dual exhaust with THRUSH tube mufflers, she sounds great. I've just done the 100,000 mile maintenance with new plugs, wires, and a DEMON coil pack upgrade. Plus new tires and upgraded slotted rotors all around, and a square K&N filter in the stock air box. @@mark1wat What doesn't make sense about the 3 valve? The 3v sounded great and yes it was the defacto GT motor(which had high HP builds to the moon and back) til the Coyote came along and took its place. It's not about the power. It was the character of the engine, how the exhaust sounded, and how it felt right with the car. Ford should have made it 4 valve back then but maybe it was cost derivative at the time much like they had chose keeping it solid rear axle(aw yeah drag racin') vs IRS(meh wheelhops).

Best retro body style. The 3v was a good motor. Not the power plant of the coyote, but can be built just as good or possibly a little better. Need to ponie up if you want to make this what a built of a coyote motor can deliver. You have to forge all the internal parts of a 3v. You can get away with just replacing the oil pump gears if you're looking for 700 + hp in the coyote motor. 3v isn't capable of that unless you forge it. I spent the money before the the coyote motor was before nobody knew they were being developed. I probably wouldn't have done it if I knew the coyote motor was coming.
