"Baklavas from Gaza" is an attempt to provide comic relief in light of the latest tragedies in Israel and Palestine. The special is improvised and was recorded in Berlin for an audience of Arabs, Israelis and highly nervous Germans. If you liked it, please share it! If you didn’t, also share it, angry comments are great for the algorithm!

    🤓 About Shahak:
Shahak Shapira is an Israel-born, Berlin-based comedian. His comedy show on German TV got canceled so fast, most people didn’t even notice he had one. He recorded a stand up special for Comedy Central, which would have been awesome, but it was Comedy Central Germany, so yeah, not great. Also wrote two best sellers, which would be very impressive if this was a poetry slam. New York, Tokyo, Cape Town, Paris, London, LA, Barcelona - Shahak has successfully bamboozled audiences around the world into thinking he’s funny and even tricked world class comedians like Jim Gaffigan, Iliza Shlesinger, Maz Jobrani, Ari Shaffir and Joe List into letting him open for them - ha! Fools! By making up a bunch of credits, he was also able to stain the legendary stages of the Comedy Store LA, Gotham, Laugh Factory, Comedy Mothership, Top Secret London and The Stand with his mediocre-at-best comedy.

Thank you... Honestly I have gone through childloss myself and the news are so triggering, tearing my heart apart for all those innocents. It's unbelievable that humans still even think that provoking such increadible pain could improve any type of solution for any side. I needed this good laugh, and laughing with you about such horrible reality is possible, because your empathy also comes straight through. It's good to see that all those sunburns haven't hurt your humanity. All the best & Peace out

As an Arab, I never thought I would have the same views as an Israeli Jew.
We can argue all we want about whose land it is and who took it illegally, but the fact of the matter is, both Arabs and Jews are in the Holy Land right now, and if they can't agree to live on it in peace they will both end up buried underneath it unfortunately...

I am an Israeli jew and I agree. In my utopian dream there is an Israeli and a Palestinian state side by side, each independent with their own citizans but with open borders, like countries in the EU. Palestinians could live, work and study in Israel and vice verse. We have no choice but to share this land, both peoples are here to stay. Unfortunatly I don't see this happening in my life time and it breaks my heart.

I've decided, Shahak is the best comic in the whole world. This is the first video I have seen of him just now. Anyone who can spontaneously make funny the most tragic of circumstances, with quick wit, compassion, a twinkle in his eye, and and give immediate ad lib hilarious responses to the audience's input is genuinely extremely gifted...it's in his bones, his blood, from undergoing the toughest stuff in life himself undoubtedly. He's not afraid to face the darkest of stuff and pull the cloth away and expose the essence of it and bring the light to the situation. He's like a surgeon seeing details of a particular situation clearly, getting right to what needs doing and getting the thing out, removing stuff that is festering socially. He's like Mr. Rogers combined with a ruthless 007 agent kindly but powerfully exterminating small-mindedness, hate, and pointing out the sameness of opposing extremists...He's a juggler holding many bowling pins in the air whilst smoking a cigar and having a monkey doing handstands on his head...managing to keep going so many aspects and facets of a topic at once and delivering them like a freshly baked baklava (or cauliflower crust vegan pizza for some. He's like a samuri warrier doing jujitsu and slicing up freshest of sushi and offering it on a platter for the audience who wishes to feast on this. His work and life takes courage and vulnerability to 'put it out there.' The more forbidden and difficult, he 'goes there' directly and with loving brilliance. His humor just springs forth out of him instantaneously. Bravo Shahak! I hope you come to the US to do some shows in Seattle area someday soon! BTW, Shahak should be one of Gaza's next leaders as well as Israel's. Make them into one country: We are Pal-Is-Really-Mine

We’re met with repression, you can get arrested for just demonstrating for peace. It even happens to Jews and Palestinians here. We’re defamed, insulted, threatened, spat at, beaten, silenced and thrown into jail. It won’t stop us. The victims of genocide and other crimes against humanity have not died for nothing. The real teaching of WWII is that we ought to stand up for justice, we ought to have freedom of speech and freedom of association and we ought to respect human rights. They were first officially recognized after WWII. I cannot fathom how our government could possibly get away with justifying a genocide with another one.

Easiest exhibit: Is'rāelīs are ‘murdered’ and yet, Palestinians merely ‘die’.
Overall.. I enjoyed your set, even if it's not entirely fascinating, and not at all edgy with repeated strong-language.(
It's overall a feel-good "why can't we get along" _shtick_ notably inhabited by not just trite but hamfisted "tWo-sTaTe" fantasy failing to be rationalised by embellished facts.)
There's a reason why his set was not shut down by despotic and tyrannical Āryan authorities, after all.
I also wonder if some of the strong-language at the audiences was genuine expression over getting called-out, after all.

It is not about being okay with our differences, it is about realising that the world doesn't match our narrow perspectives of it , we all have parts of the truth, for example .... In this conflict , neither the Palestinians (including Hamas) are the "mindless animals" as the Israeli PM called them to justify their killing, nor the Israeli people are as benevolent and righteous as they claim to be ...
The Palestinians wouldn't have exploded in anger on October the 7th unless they were living in hell for decades, and anger is blind , and in their blind anger innocent Israeli civilians have fallen, is it a horrible crime? Of course it is , but can we actually judge this without looking in the conditions that the Palestinians suffered for years?
I really hope for peace for both sides, but let's not forget that one side was backed up (financially, politically, and military) by the 1st powerful nation in the world since it's foundation, and the other side was only fed fake promises for 75 years, so when we want to distribute blame, the side with the most influences should take most of the blame .

    • @SandraKanferClarke
      @SandraKanferClarke 6 месяцев назад +6

@@ahmedengineer5778 I really like your point that we all have parts of the truth. I totally take your point that Palestinians have had a horrendous time, but equally there is a large chunk you're missing from your narrative. Israel wasn't in fact supported from the start, on the contrary, they had nobody actually backing them up. They went begging for anything they could up until 1973 - that's when the US started backing them and let's not beat about the bush - only as a tool against the USSR in the Cold War. There has been brutality from both sides against each other from the outset and even before then. The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem was downright evil - killing any Arabs that wanted to live in peace with the Jews before the state was even founded and after!
There is so much more to say - I'm sure for you as well, but we both have lives and at the end of the day, what happened doesn't actually matter because the only way to solve this is to move forward and let the past go :).
I personally think that both Palestinians and Israelis have actually been exploited in a bigger geopolitical conflict of East vs West initially and now West vs Jihadi part of the Muslim world. However, the one thing that is undisputed is that the civilian Palestinian population have been ruthlessly exploited by their leaders, by the Arab world and by the Israeli government. They deserve so much better.

But seriously our number one weapon against our enemies,

We’ve always looked for humor in any challenge and as this young man has painfully discovered, we didn’t always find it! But we keep on looking, no matter how hard it is, how hard our lives, how hard our tragedies.

Thank you! Sincerely! It's so nice to hear real empathy and dark humour that is atually good and theraputic
It's fng crazy to be an Israeli that doesn't want to "Flatten Gaza" and is horrofied from hearing children scream "Death to ....". But man is it hard to keep being liberal when you witness the rest of the world from their caffes chanting "from the river to the sea..." not even knowing which river and how many deaths that chant implies. It feels so alone when my only options are people with poison and hate so deep in them that they cheer for children casualties, or basicaly people that say that I deserve to have worst inhuman acts commited to me and my children in the name of resistance and equality.
So thank you for these wonderfull 25 minutes of levity and laughter. But never forget... What about the cows?

Look, there were stupid points like comparing what the IDF does to what Hamas does and giving away all of Jerusalem, but it's a stand-up show and he explicitly said that he doesn't have a side or morals, it's for his personal success, so overall a really funny show and it's great that he manages to balance like that!😂
