I’m very loyal to Green Day so it’s hard for them to do wrong by me. With that said - I am loving this!! Can’t wait to hear the rest of the album. After American Idiot, Nimrod is my next favorite album.
The Grouch and Platypus are ICONIC
The lyrics of the song suggest that the American Dream is filled with deceit and conspiracies, and instead of providing opportunities for people, it is causing suffering. Issues such as unemployment, obsolescence, lack of access to education and housing, marginalization of the masses, and economic inequality are mentioned.
The chorus of the song expresses the frustration and despair of people who feel trapped in a system that doesn't benefit them. There is also a reference to the idea that the American Dream has become an illusion and that reality is very different.
The song criticizes the gap between the promise of the American Dream and the reality of life in the United States, and suggests that this disconnect is causing harm and desperation to people. It is a harsh criticism of capitalism. This country is a private property, That is a blow to the capitalists of the United States.
It sounds nostalgic to me! Brings me back to American idiot days. My favorite albums are American idiot and insomniac.
*high five* both albums are bangers
My mind is blown of how good this song is and
The song is actually really cool, can’t wait to check out the album!!
Yeah , it seems like it's 2004 all over again, if this catches on, maybe they sell out stadiums next summer 🌞
The upcoming tour is with Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and The Linda Linda's. Stadiums will be sold out for sure.
I dont know why everybody is surprised. Their music gets better and better over the years, they have implemented most of rock's history in all their albums in different ways. These guys know their musical theory. Every album has a different feeling and influence
Sounds like American Idiot album. Loving it 💚
I woke up everyday and the first I thought that in my mind, since I listened to the song, is: " The American dream is killing me..." 😅
Loving this new track!
Saw them on the recent tour in Glasgow and this song got a great reaction.
Literally listened to this song 12 times on Tuesday 😂
So close 20 yesterday me xddddd
INSOMNIAC WESTBOUND SIGN BEST ALBUM AND SONG!!!
My top five favorite Green Day albums:
1. American Idiot
2. 21st Century Breakdown
3. Dookie
4. Nimrod
5. Revolution Radio
I would say Warning is probably my favorite Green Day album
Now that’s a rare one, not many would claim warning as their favorite
I want to be a minority lol@@dylan3488
Warning is really underrated. Definitely in my top 3 Green Day albums, Insomniac is probably my favourite
INCREDIBLY underrated album. Some of the song lyrics are just brilliant observations about life. Kind of a big moment of reflection I think. Especially
Church on Sunday: recognizing that you've really hurt or betrayed someone, and would do absolutely anything to take it back and make it right, even though you know you probably can't. (A theme revisited in 21 guns I think)
Deadbeat Holiday: A realization that you've not really used your life as wisely as you probably should have. And looking around you realize you sure aren't the only one, but at least you can see it now.
Hold On: Realization that at the end of the day, the only one you can truly count on 100% is yourself. And it isn't easy. You've got to keep going.
Waiting: hope! seizing the moment, and realization that its right there for you to go after
Minority: A fucking anthem and celebration of who you are and your own power and agency.
Macy's Day Parade: another song that just sucker punches me in the feels. Another reflection about disappointment, and realization that all you've ever wanted was some hope, and you couldn't find it. But maybe now you can.
I love these guys so much that I spend way too much time analyzing, and projecting Billie Joe's lyrics onto my own life and experience. But isn't that what truly great songwriting does?
I’m so happy 🥲❤️
My favorite Green Day albums are Nimrod (1998), 21st Century Breakdown (2009), ¡Tré! (2012) and Revolution Radio (2016).
My top 5 albums varies over time
1. Am idiot
2. Tre
3. 21 CB
4. RevRad
5. Warning
Ik I didn’t put dookie I really love that album it just gets annoying at some points for me idky
For me it'a a great comeback, I've been a fan since 2008, no more "claps" sounds, my fav is Rev Rad, and this one made me so happy, I'm excited
Fashion Victim:
When you’re dancing through your wardrobe
Do the anorex-a go-go
Cloaked with style for pedophiles
As your credit card explodes”
Maybe is not something excepcional but it works and sounds pretty rockish I approve this new single. Excited about new album. Fan since 94 and my favorite album is 39/mooth
Favorite album is American Idiot. This remembers me of that..
“All Green Day songs are short”
Jesus of Suburbia has entered the chat.
Fuck yes. Such a powerful message at the time we really need it. I think the timeliness of at least things song, is as significant as American Idiot. Hoping the rest of the album hits like that one does. Another rock opera probably isn't in the cards, but I sure as hell wouldn't be disappointed id this was another one. With Rage not writing anything new (As far as I know) it seems like no one is writing anything beside pop-fluff and love songs. That said, I think a comparison to AI is just doomed to lead to disappointment. I truly think that was one of the most important albums ever released. The quality of the music itself was like a bonus. The fact that it was simple, but incredibly powerful just makes it an absolute masterpiece. My favorite songs in the entire universe are, and that hit me in an incredibly deep, primal way are, in order: Whatsername, Letterbomb, Give me Novocaine, Wonderful (Everclear), and Father of Mine (Everclear). They all have a lot in common, and speak to my very soul. The fact that the top 3 are all from the same band, and even the same album, is a testament to something really important.
I feel like America and the world need at least an attempt at another musical wakeup call punch in the face.
Call me a blind religious fanboi, I'll go ahead and own that. But I think that anyone being truly objective should be able to appreciate music and lyrics like this. It's a different time and we need a different call to arms. This is a great start.
Enough ranting. I have to say I really love that you went through the lyrics at the end. A lot of reaction videos are just gut responses in realtime of people banging out to the song, and don't dig into it at all. Love what you did. You've got a new fan. Subbed.
East Jesus nowhere vibes
My top 5 albums probably are:
AI
Insomniac
Kerplunk
Warning
Dookie
Green Day Being Political, is one of the reason, I personally don't label them as Pop Punk, I think they're leaning more into the classic Punk from the 70's and 80's, I havn't heard a pop punk band, being this political. Punk used to be much more political
Given that (In my opinion) they kind of created Pop-Punk, I say politics can absolutely be part of the genre. Even if they are the only ones doing it :P
But for other Pop Punk bands, it's nearly Non existent, it's more about getting drunk and girls (Nothing wrong with that, ha, ha) So I will still not consider them a Pop Punk Band, but a Classic Punk band @@Linus76, by the way Green Day actually hates the word Pop Punk ;-) I remember an interview, where Billie Joe actually said, that his New Year's resolution, would be to eliminate the word Pop Punk, from the English Dictionary
@@Limmosee True enough -- but Frankenstein also could not control the monster he created :)
Yes, Exactly, when a word sticks, it sticks LOL @@Linus76 When I started listening to them in 1994, there wasn't a genre, called Pop Punk, neither, when Blink 182 Released Enema Of The State in 1999, so that came much later, I'm Billie/Boomer like, I don't like the word either LOL
Green Day The Best Band 💚💚💚🤟🤟🤟
Yes, can’t avoid it now just like death.
Nothing is certain in this life except for TikTok & taxes.
I really love the song. Green Day has a way of writing songs that are really easy to sing along to.
My favorite album is American Idiot. To me they can’t really top that, so I don’t judge them too harshly. This new song is light years ahead of FOA. That was a really poor choice for the first single. It didn’t excite me at all. This new songs excites me!
It's great when bands get political in the modern age.
Kerplunk
Dookie is my favorite
I’m not left wing at all. In fact some of their songs sound like they lyrics were written by trump. Green Day has been my top band for 30 years and always will be. Saw them live in 1998 and 2022. It was amazing both times. I don’t care what side they are on. They are the best
