    Thank you for the simplicity with which information is being presented about Bitwig. For me that I am learning about DAW has been very important these small details of use in the day to day of the musical production.
    I still do not understand the difference between "New Smart Collections and New Collections and how they behave within Daw". Another issue is about the application of the Stretch, onsets, formants on audios and the use of the browser in the part of "Show Note Edito Panel" on micro-pitch explressions and note expressions. There is some native Bitwig feature for detecting the fundamental note of some Melodine type audio, and there is the possibility that the Bitwig development team can integrate technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, ruclips.net/video/nl9uxZefWdY/видео.html or something like https: / /www.sonicvisualiser.org/screenshots.html for chord detection. How is your workflow for fundamental note detection?
    A very interesting feature would be to create one more integrated Bitwig tab with a web shop with Sound Bank and preset created by the community and the packages could be pre-heard and bought directly from DAW. I would like to give you a reference of music that played a lot here in Brazil ... Derrepente leaves some project yours with these reference of Brazilian Funk ruclips.net/video/8_oE-iQeFeE/видео.html Thank you very much for the work and the effort employed in your channel from RUclips

In this second episode we explore the Device Browser of Bitwig. It’s the place where you select instrument, effects, plugins & modulators for your tracks. We talk about some best practises and how to setup your collections (folders) for quick and easy access to your favourite instrument and plugin effects.
    Furthermore we look at the second browser (the sidebar browser) of Bitwig which gives you super quick drag and drop access to samples and plugins.
    We also create a quick beat by just dragging out a few samples from the sidebar browser.
    Lean how quick and easy it is to work in Bitwig Studio 2.
    I hope you find the information useful and please let me know if you have any questions.
    Thanks for watching,
    Mattias

    Thank you Mathias for your nice tutorials. It is a tremendous help.
    I am an absolute beginner in DAWs and have possibly a stupid question, but it just won't come to me naturally... when I am in the browser and want to try out the multisampler or presets before choosing, how do I do that? You just play some notes? I just have a laptop and no piano controller or anything yet, so I am not sure how to access a preview. TIA!

      Hi thanks for writing. If you want to try out things from the browser: 1. Select an empty track ( or a track with an instrument on it already. Press B to open browser (or open by plus-sign button) on the track device-chain. Press and activate CAPSLOCK which will make your computer keyboard input as midi data to Bitwig. Select any preset (instrument preset) and play on your computer keyboard. =)
      2. Be sure to select a track which already contains some midi data (helps). Open up a Device browser on that track and press various presets etc. The presets will "preload" and use the midi input from the track. But to really ADD the instrument to the track you need to Confirm with OK button. Hope the info helps! Let me know how it goes. Cheers,
      Matt

    • @MattiasHolmgren

      Hi thanks. You can add fx to individually Drum Machine pads several ways.
      1.Click any drum Machine pad and press the blue + (plus = add sign) to the right of the sampler.
      Now select the audio fx device you want to add to this individual sound.
      2. Open the mixer by pressing TAB.
      Click the "double arrow" - icon which is at the top of the drum Machine track. This opens all the individual drum pad tracks (which are sub audio paths/Channels within this final drum Machine bus).
      Now press the + sign after a sampler on any drum pad audio track and add fx device of choice.
      Enjoy! 🌞

    I have missed a collection feature for plugins in FL Studio. What do you think of built in instruments and filter? Do you prefer them or do you prefer third party plugins. I am more towards third party stuff to not lock myself in to a specific DAW. It's also less to relearn when having the same stuff with you when moving.

    • @MattiasHolmgren
      @MattiasHolmgren  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Jens. I use both native and third party plugins. I choose the DAW depending on the song I am gonna work on and what tools I might need. Film scoring, game music and cinematic stuff = Logic Pro. Bitwig Studio / FL for electronic music where I am not gonna record vocals. Vocals os easiest to record and edit in Logic IMO. For synths its mostly third party though. Vital, Serum, Omnisphere 2 and Zebra 2. But occasionally native synths. Depends on the sound Im looking for. A lot of Sine Player, Kontakt, Play, Synchron, Opus for orchestral stuff.

      @jenstornell 9 месяцев назад

      @@MattiasHolmgren Interesting how to use different DAWs. Nice to see some of your plugin choices. I have bought plugins for about 25 000 SEK last year. Orchestral instruments are so expensive. For electronic music I have Nexus, Spire, Phase Plant, Halo 2, I wish, Manipulator, Gatekeeper etc. For orchestral sounds I have Spitfire originals, Musio, Eastwest cloud, Nucleus full, Tom factory, Damage 2 and too many choir libraries. It's 36 plugins bought in total. It's too much fun. Now I need to produce some music with it. 😅

    Great series of videos. Very informative and I really appreciate it. If possible, can you tell me what bitwigs greatest strengths and weaknesses are?

    • @MattiasHolmgren
      @MattiasHolmgren  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Andrew, glad you enjoy the Bitwig videos.
      PROs = user interface / quick workflow, modulation (build your own effects, mid/side processing, great surgical band splits), visual LFOs, great routing. Easy MPE access and editing. Great grouping functionality / organization. Great sound browser and search. Awesome Phase-4 synthesizer with (again) visual oscillators. Stable DAW.
      CONs = little midi functionality in piano roll, native effects plugins (like reverb, delay, saturations) are not as good as Logic, FL. Personally I use third party effects anyway.
      But since Bitwig is modular in a sense, with building blocks, you can basically build what u want. Hope that helps. Thanks for writing!

    What’s your favourite Bitwig stock instrument? I don’t know why but I don’t like Phase 4. I use Polysynth more. It loads faster and loading patches is slow on Phase 4. It’s a very digital sounding sounding synth in a very digital sounding DAW. Maybe I’m missing something though?

    • @MattiasHolmgren
      @MattiasHolmgren  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Jamis, my favourite instrument in Bitwig is...the sampler. Or rather The Grid in Bitwig 3, because in the Poly Grid you can have as many samplers as you want and create visual layered instrument setups. For synth sounds I like the PolySynth but oh yes, they are digitally clean sounding. I warm them up with saturators all the time. For saturation I often use compressor (in weird settings), or FX Grid, or iZotope Trash...or just good old Camel Crusher. I also make use of third party filters and effects like the excellent Zebrify (Zebra effects plugin). It lets us use all the amazing filters and saturators of Zebra on any sound source! Give it a try if you have Zebra 2.
      Bitwig as a DAW sounds totally fine (as goos as any other DAW). But the instruments / synths need to be spiced with saturation and good effects. I think Phase-4 is quite cool. You can do growls and general FM sounds very easy with that one.
      I generally never use stock presets in Bitwig. And I mean NEVER. I create my own presets / sounds with the Bitwig synths tailored to the song I am working on. More often I use other synths like Zebra, Serum, Omnisphere and now Phase Plant for synth sounds. I mean, if I bought them and I think they give me better result that native Bitwig instruments... at a faster time..Why not use them? ;) But I have a quite large arsenal of instruments and plugins collected over the years.
      Though the Grid really gave us a neat environment to create our own sounds in Bitwig. It also contains ways to warm up and saturate your sounds. Check my live streams. I hope Bitwig 3 is officially released soon. Thanks for writing Jamis.

    • @jamisbillson4872
      @jamisbillson4872 5 лет назад +1

      Mattias Holmgren...I forgot about the Sampler. I remember you mentioning Saturation in a previous comment and have been trying to work out my own way of Saturation. And this amateurish way I use to create my own customised Saturation will,get better with practise and knowledge. I never use presets either. That’s losing the point of creation to me. I might use Presets to begin with but then I’ll try to craft them into what I want. Usually ends up in a disaster though. I have this thing of turning levels up all the way. Except for volume. It’s something I need to stop doing. Did it since I started using synths though. Probably explains what I’m a drummer doesn’t it.
      Bitwig offered me Bitwig 3 for half price...really nice people there. But I don’t want the upgrade at half price. I should pay the same as everyone else. So I’ve not yet got my hands on the Grid yet. Long story poor health and not great financial situation...typical old school musician.
      Thank you Mattias. I always get a detailed and gracious reply from you. As music people should be in a perfect world.
      Anyway mate...back to drumming. I’ve designed a unique way of playing. Takes a lot of practice but I nearly have it nailed. It’s playing the hi hat shuffles (like “Fool in the Rain” Purdie half time shuffle or Toto’s “Rosanna”) that is difficult. I’ve started playing the hi hat with the hi hat pedal...for open hat and closed. And have been asking the world of drummers if anyone knows of a drummer who plays the hi hat groove shuffle using the pedal? So far I’ve been told it’s nearly impossible which is why no one has tried it. Trap hi hats are impossible though...like the drum patterns you’ve written on this video, Way too fast for the pedals. It’s enjoyable playing Trap beats though. I’ve always loved the double stroke technique of the hi hat.

Very frustrating because I could simply send projects back and forth between the computers and the iPad pros! Remember some situations don’t allow for the computer to be dragged around all the time because the iPad is far superior to even a laptop as a mobile computer and is easily as powerful for sure . After twelve years of using touch devices then being forced back to a computer because of apples idiotic behavior using a mouse and QWERTY keyboard is ruining my old knuckles hands and shoulders . Too bad for them because I can get more work done on it than any other daw I know of including export to a mastering app or daw of my choice or Ableton live as a project that lines up perfectly with lives time line and clip launcher .
