Also worth noting on the keytrack EQ tip that you can assign the keytrack modulator to the global shift using the same spread value, allowing you to shift all bands at once. To work around the monophonic nature of this EQ technique, stick the entire device in an FX Selector, duplicate it a number of times and set the selector to Round Robin. It's more taxing on CPU, but super useful for some specific tasks.
Also you can pack a few tracks into group and then aplly bounce in place to time selection range (entire lengh of the group clips). Then you can deactivate nested tracks and this is looks more like freeze alternative. When you'll copy, cut or remove group metaclip, all of nested clips will follow editing (even if deactivated tracks is hidden). So you can "unfreeze" it back with changes you did for blablabla. Hope you understood me.
This is definitely the best use of "Bounce In Place", on a group. You get roughly the same effect as freeze, for cases where you want that. I never use it on the track itself.
Great tips! I'm loving Bitwig for how it makes so many things so much easier than in Ableton. I've used Ableton for 20 years, love it, and will continue using it for some things. But Bitwig is a huge breath of fresh air, fresh ideas, and so many helpful creative tools.
You can bounce either a clip or a segment of time to another track by highlighting what you want and dragging where you want to go while holding Alt. Like bounce-in-place, this will only bounce the first instrument and whatever is contained in the FX containers, but if you use that workflow it makes things a little bit quicker. More generally, scream that part about bounce being better than freeze / flatten from the rooftops. It becomes even more powerful when you do stuff like putting printed audio in group master tracks or even the master track to immediately cut off long reverb tails and such. Super flexible design.
Very good explanation about Bounce in Bitwig, certainly very enlightening for most of us who are still crawling on DAW. Thank you very much Polarity for the Bitwig Studio videos. I am very grateful for the effort you have made to produce this enriching material.
Awesome content. I am a longtime Ableton User, and i just recently switched to Bitwig. I'm loving the possibilities with bitwig. I also agree that this bounce feature in bitwig is way better than the flatten option in ableton. Keep up the great bitwig content bro!
Love your videos brother!!! Im demoing bitwig and was wondering if there is vertical zoom in the arrangement?? I move about quickly in the arrangement horizontally and wish to do so vertically. The only way so far I know is to hover all the way to the left where the track headers are , the lines in-between. Am I missing something ?
Even though I knew some of these tips already, it was great to be reminded of them and also to know them more thoroughly. Also, some very nice tricks that I was not aware of! Great video once again. Thanks
Nice Tricks, some I knew about already but the ability to load a project or part of a project inside a project is really great and I did not know this exists.
I always learn something from your videos man!! I had no idea you could enter an equation to get the right reverb times. Super useful as I don't need to use a separate delay calculator to get in the ballpark!! I use the exact same bounce workflow it's honestly the best (definitely better than Freeze in Ableton!) It would be really nice if the bounce dialogue contained check boxes to include a variation of the original track name and send information in case you are sending out to fx. I find myself renaming the bounced tracks constantly. It's pretty easy as you can do it while its being bounced down but it's another step. Additionally a way to revert a bounce in place back to MIDI would be amazing but with the bounce to new track workflow it's really not needed. Thanks again!
I worked on a Track with around 20 - 30 Stems STEMs, but the small height is too small and the normal height to high... - variable Track-Height is more friendly
So you could theoretically sequence and mix and master a whole album in one project? I doubt my Mac could handle that many plugins, but if they were all bounced ......
I just came across your channel. Apart from the amazing content and explanation of the DAW (just as Alexandre said below), I have one question: Why do you have such a big scaling setting? (I have a hunch that you may have an eyesight problem, but your taskbar size is normal.)
@@PolarityMusic Oh, I see. I'm watching from a PC and it's weird for me. As for the feedback, no problem. I downloaded Bitwig Studio 2 weeks ago and I'm loving it! Your tutorials are also really helpful for me as a beginner!
I'm not understanding the C3 frequency coming in at 262Hz on Bitwig as when I tune a voltage on my ER-101 (Eurorack Sequencer) for C3 and I see my scope showing the frequency is 130Hz. If I take my sequencer to A4 the scope reads 440Hz which is the agreed on international value, so that works. At 262Hz on my system, I get a C4 note. Any idea why Bitwig is calling a C3 262Hz?
@@PolarityMusic A440 (also known as Stuttgart pitch, or A4 in scientific pitch notation, is the musical pitch corresponding to an audio frequency of 440 Hz, which serves as a tuning standard for the musical note of A above middle C. It is standardized by the International Organization for Standardization as ISO 16 which Germany adheres to ISO standards, so??? This is from Wikipedia...well everything but the Germany part :)
Really fantastic video, just got Bitwig and this helped so much! One thing that doesn't really matter but I see shiny, I want shiny. Why is your filter spectrum colourful and mine is grey? Can't seem to figure it out!
[Bitwig beginner] Hi PM, Thanks for this. Probably, I have lost the plot so excuse my ignorance. In Part 3, "Key-Tracking on Filter"; why would one do this? Presumably you are using Polysynth to produce "note-based" frequencies but then you throw in a filter which you then add key-tracking to produce note-based frquencies? I don't get it?
Amazing. :) What do you know about scripts for Bitwig like in Reaper? Do you have some intereing scripts? I have Autocolor and amazing Moss script for my iCON Platform M+ and for OSC with TouchOSC (Android phone - Basic TouchOSC Layout by Astartes, improved and extended a lot by Thomas Helzle).
When using bounce, does the audio go through the master channel (like in Ableton) or it just renders audio post fader on the selected channel only? I use Sonarworks on the master chain to remove my room's coloration so won dering if I need to deactivate it every time I use bounce
I saw that you use XO, I have decided I want to get it, but am not sure if the full version is worth the price difference compared to the lite version. Do you have any insight that might help make the decision?
Ich finde die Freeze-Funktion in Ableton einfach übersichtlicher. Mehr Tracks == weniger Übersicht. Die Freeze-Funktion ist eine der wenigen Dinge dich ich in BWS bis heute vermisse.
Loved the ending, yes, it's much better than freezing in Ableton! I actually created shortcuts for the "Bounce" function on the "Enter" key, and the "Activate/Deactivate" function on the "0". I don't think there is another DAW out there that makes resampling so fly.
How the fuck drop u learn all this in depth stuff man? I don't get much studio time due to work and family so I have to rely on videos like urs. Have to say bitwig are really poor when it comes to tutorials compared to other daw companies. Good job bro 👍

@Mr. Frenkie, any chance we can get some bitwig dnb tutorials in English?

Polysynth has only pulse and saw as oscillator. A steep filter or high resonance gives you more like a sine.

Controller scripting is totally a thing although I would say there is a somewhat less active community around that than in Reaper.

but if you bounce to audio and save song then one day i need to go back to midi you can't 🤷🏿♂️
very clear and super helpful. Thank you so much. Subscribed!
I still think ableton live style freeze and unfreeze is miles better than having extra clutter tracks.
for me it´s the opposite
