  • In episode 6 of the Bitwig Studio Basics series we look at the instrument layer and container devices of Bitwig. These devices are excellent tools to build your own custom instruments with multiple layers of sound sources. Follow along and see how we can make use of some of the important devices for creating layered instruments in Bitwig Studio 2.
The XY-Instrument of Bitwig is another wonderful device which makes it possible to morph between various sound sources (instruments). In the video I show how you can create a XY-Instrument and use LFO modulators to create movement in the sound.

Really like the idea of that XY instrument container - I'm signed up to Roland Cloud and it reminds me a lot of how you play with layers on the D50 to create different textures from blending 2 others.

Bitwig has been quite the revelation for me. It's like it was built around all the things I wish I could do in Cubase but couldn't. Combined with my LinnStrument, it's positively sublime. Everything works like I expect it to.

Dear Mattias, many thanks for all your excellent and inspiring BW tutorials. I am a Die Hard Reaper user but you inspired me to explore Bitwig and that brings me really much joy. It's an amazing DAW ! Please keep up your great work. Kind Regards from Holland.

Thanks XY seems fun along with the layering. I have been Midi layering my harware for years using a 3 in 8 out routers that I have two of. Now I will try it with the software inside Bitwig. I always go back into learn mode when ever I pay my Bitwig dues. LOL

Excellent tutorial Mattias. I never use the XY instrument but I will now. Looking forward to see what you do when V3 comes out.
