    Nice guide, Mattias, thank you! Indeed, was quite interesting, how to use these tablets in music production. Looks so handy! I'm a huge mouse and keyboard fan, to be honest, I'd even use a mouse for my smartphone (or keyboard to enter those loong messages in messengers, arrrghh), if it were possible, but those Wacoms look so natural, too. So personal thing, I'm just a little in doubt of accuracy of my fingers compared to mouse cursor =) Nice, that you consider preventing those injuries might appear because of uncomfortable work or position for a long time! Kind of dark and unseen side of the work. I personally use an arm of my chair as a stand for my arm controlling the mouse, it helps me not to keep my arm stressed all the time, just to move hand (or palm, what it is) with the mouse. But yes, as a free addition to all the other use cases, where tablet is beyond comparison, it's really good to make it work in the DAWs as well!
    Thanks for sharing your experience on that! Good luck for the next videos and productions!

      Yeah I was also a huge mouse fan until I started to feel the strain pain after working with music editing, app development, graphics design and animations for 15 years. The mouse is very hard to place in-front of you for a natural position of the wrists and arms. Mouse is often too far to the right for a good working posture since you have the keyboard in the middle. While a tablet is naturally placed in a better "working" position. =)
      With some of my videos I try to bring up some topics not generally discussed on RUclips videos for producers. I'm glad it's appreciated Alexey!
      It's not super convenient in the beginning if you are not used to working with a tablet, but the bonus you get with finger gestures etc. is very neat. And I switch between using the pen and just touch gestures, so there's also some variation.
      It's easy to oversee the strain injuries which, with time, will come.
      I used to have a keyboard to the left of me, and a keyboard to the right of me. And if you sit in the middle and stretch your arm to the left or right...for long work-hours as a composer, it's gonna result in shoulder pain. Tried and failed. =)
      I hope the video will help bring this into attention (and consideration) for hard working audio editors. =)
      Thanks for another great feedback Alexey! Have a splendid week my friend!

    Hi Mattias. Just discovered you, loving your videos! Do you think the small version Wacom would suffice? Or do you think the size would be frustrating? Thank you!

    • @MattiasHolmgren
      @MattiasHolmgren  2 года назад

      Hi, welcome onboard. I'm glad to hear you enjoy my content. YEs I think a smaller Wacom would suffice. But I'm so used to the A4 model that for me it's harder to work with a smaller / larger tablet. Did you check my video on the GAOMON drawing tablet? ruclips.net/video/QrG8fGfRXnA/видео.html The only downside with that one is that it doesn't have multitouch / touch. So the Wacom is better in that sense. But the drawing functionality with the pen on the GAOMON is in par with an expensive Wacom. GAOMON is obviously cheaper solution.

    In this video we look at some tools that will ease up the strain on your body while working long hours doing audio editing, film editing, music production, animation etc. We look at how the Wacom Intous Pro will enhance the workflow in your DAW - Logic Pro X, Bitwig Studio 2 and FL Studio 20.
    I've been using the Wacom Intous Pro for a long time and never looked back. It has helped me ease up the strain and load on my wrists, shoulders and neck.

    As I was quite intrigued by that idea, I went to see that Intous Pro. Couldn't afford it. So I thought how I can achieve a similar effect without spending too much money. So I took my current notebook (which is my workstation), which has a multi touch screen and placed it in front of me, like in your video. It can flex out quite nicely, the machine part is now under my screen. I mirrored the screen - on the notebook and the big screen, and rotated only the notebook screen by 180 degrees - and bam! Multitouch trackpad in 15 inch size, with gestures and all that shebang. I only spent 20 Euro for the monitor riser. Someday, maybe, I can get that Intous Pro, I really want it. I was inspired by your idea though.

      Hey, thanks. Yeah, the Wacom Intous Pro is really nifty for doing audio editing. Especially as you can flip between using just touch (with either your right or left hand) and using the pen. So sometimes I only use my left hand for editing and sometimes the right. It's miles better for the wrists than using the mouse. But I've been coding so much in my career that I really need some ergonomic tool to ease up the strain on wrists, shoulders and neck. Time to throw that mouse out of the house. Hey, it's even a rhyme! =) Time to rap! 😉What!!! Your 22" isn't touch. That's weird...lol. 😁

But the cable broke on it, so I had to get these new devices. And when I discovered the multi touch model there was no going back! It's much better than using a small Apple Magic Trackpad. =)

    Vor langer Zeit habe ich eine DAW getestet die ein Trackpad eingebaut hatte bzw als Option anbot, in dem Pad konnte man Effekte platzieren und mit der Mouse wie beim XY-PAd umherfahren, nur dass es mehrere Stationen hatte, die man anfahren konnte. Die Bereiche konnte man auch festlegen, ich glaube sogar gitterförmig. Ich glaube es war Sensomusic Hollyhock oder irgendwas anderes von Sensomusic ?

    • @MattiasHolmgren
      @MattiasHolmgren  5 лет назад +1

      Hi, thanks. I'll respond in english because I'm not that fluent with german. =) I've never tested Sensomusic, but in Bitwig you can indeed setup X-Y Pads for effects and instruments. I show this in some of my earlier Bitwig videos. It's a very cool effect. And if you have a drawing tablet it's a breeze to use the X-Y pads. If you have Logic Pro X you can also use X-Y pads within the Alchemy synth, it's not as "open" as Bitwig environment is quite modular. Did you ever try Bitwig? What DAW do you work in? Thanks for commenting my friend!

      Sensormusic is very full modular and i played with my mind to try it out...but....maybe too kitschy...for modular freaks sure worth a look. Would be nice to see that u try it... Also the Video Section inside, that miss in Bitwig

      Yeah I too miss the video part of Bitwig. Video in Logic is excellent. Scored several short films with Logic, you can even export the music directly to the film clip without the need for external video editing. ;) FL studio also has the cool visual effects editor which is neat for quick animation backdrops to videos. That’s why I use all three DAWs in combination. ;) I will take a look at Senso.

    Hi, I tried to a simple Wacom with bitwig but i have issues with the knobs. Switching to mouse mode works, disabling Microsoft has also a positive effect. The rotation of the knob in bit seems "to speedy" using a Wacom tablet. So what did you change to make a better marriage between bitwig & wacom?

    • @MattiasHolmgren
      @MattiasHolmgren  5 лет назад

      Hi Patrick, which Wacom device do you use? Model Nr, year of purchase etc.?
      Disabling Microsoft? =) Sounds like a good idea. haha
      The current model I am using is Wacom Intous Pro - PTH-660. The older versions came with a mouse, but no they are touch sensitive instead. Both the pen and the touch works very good with Bitwig. I have no issues with turning knobs or awkward speed issues.
      Do you have that old grey Wacom Intous device? I have that one too, but it's in a drawer somewhere because I have two more recent models I use with music production and in the studio.
      It might be a driver issue that causes the speedy weird behaviour. Check if there are more recent drivers available.
      I hope the info is helpful.
      Thanks, Mattias

      Hey bro, how are you? Good to see you. The instruments. :) In the beginning it's a few synth patches, it's the intro to a track I did called Backlight (still have to do some verse vocals on this track before it's finished). In the 3:30 short cue it's just some 12 string guitar patch, FM Pad and a simple bass. Yes I will indeed finish that track. The beat at 5:52 FL Studio 20, is just some quick beat I created for the tutorial. Maybe I'll work out some Fast and the furious kinda song with it. Thanks for checking the video! Highly appreciated!
