    Misha to be honest, I repair n54/n55/s55 engines daily, and there was just 1 car on stock power that slip crank hub due to Launch Controls on Drag strip. Normally they spun on 550/600+HP, because there is so much torque and S55 drivetrain is really stiff. For tracking and daily driving stock crank hub is good. The crank hub is a common known problem for some BMW engines, like the N55 and S55. It's only an essential mod to do/replace if your car has a serious tune (stage 2 or more) and you go to trackdays quite often. It's also more common on cars with automatic gearbox due to the kickdown when you floor the throttle at low rpms and rpms change quicky. In stock form, i wouldn't worry about it. If you plan a stage 1 for your car, i would consider it. If you do stage 2, get it done.

    • @tylorpayne9926
      @tylorpayne9926 2 года назад +2

      FYI, according to a self reported poll of thousands of votes, stock has a 2.9 fail rate compared to 18.9% of modded. And 6MT has a failure rate of 4.3% and 23.9% for stock and modded respectively, compared to the DCT of 2.08% and 16.54% for stock and modded respectively.
      So crank hub isn’t for just modded, and it actually affects Manual cars more

    The crank hub issue is also present in Belgium.
    There were a few stock and tuned m3 and m4's with the spun crank hub.
    Stock, slightly tuned, Full bolt on , turbo's etc , all kinds.
    Somebody even had a replacement by BMW self and got it spun a second time.
    After that BMW payed for a 'crank hub fix' in an agreement at a recognised garage.
    (ASD PERFORMANCE)
    Also seen bearly new M2's competition at a garage
    (BHT Performance) here in Belgium with almost no km's on it with a spun crankhub!
    (5000km - 10.000km)
    Some chose to do it , others don't.
    The aftermath from a Tuned M4 with spun crankhub was really bad and we all witnessed it at a local meeting.
    Probably most of the S55 powered Bmw's will be fine i guess, but it's definitly a real and existing issue.
    What a lap Misha enjoyed every second of it.
    That whine gives it a real race car feeling to it.

    Misha, instead of a camera capturing footwork, I think you should try a rearward facing camera showing how fast you leave the cars behind. Adds to the sense of speed? Thanks!

    I take it you run the engine mode in Efficient so you can have a more linear throttle and less abrupt off-on transitions? I guess since you run full manual you also avoid the early shift points of Efficient mode. Nice drive!

    • @mgcharoudin
      @mgcharoudin  2 года назад +3

      Yes, smoother throttle application

    • @noghrekar
      @noghrekar 2 года назад

      I don’t think the throttle setting being in efficient has any impact on shift points. That is driven by the drive logic settings on the dct which seems to be in the middle setting.

      @@carsstuff9914 The more aggressive cooling from Sport+ will also kick in automatically when the car is being driven aggressively in any other mode. I would run mine in regular Sport mode on track and noticed it would drop to the lower target temp once I got going.

    Our F80 has over 156k miles from new in 2015 (yes we are still the original owners). Never had to deal with crank hub. It's been stock ever since (besides now having full CS/GTS drivetrain tunes (nothing to do with the engine), daily driven spiritedly. Crank hubs usually fail on highly modded cars as you mentioned.

    Great lap! One thing - Why were you driving in the efficient mode? Why not Sport or Sport +? Also, how do you have only two options - Engine and Steering. How'd the suspension setting go missing?
    I drive a 2015 F82 6 Speed here in the US and the difference is noticeable in efficient and Sport. The car gets sent in Sport mode
