- Its time to the 65th running of The Daytona 500! It has been a staple in NASCAR since the introduction of the track in 1959. It's a race that is so important to the sport that the only thing bigger than winning the Daytona 500 is winning the Cup Series Championship. 41 drivers have been able win at the Great American. With that being said, there have been some drivers who are legends in their own right who have never been able to kiss the The Harley J. Earl Trophy in victory lane. Now failure to win the Daytona 500 does not necessarily mean that a driver's legacy is in question. It just proves how difficult it can be to win this race. With that being said.
Today, we dive into the 10 Best Drivers that never won the Daytona 500.

Fun fact: Ned Jarrett apologized to Dale Earnhardt for cheering his son on, Big E laughed it out and replied to Ned with “I’m a father too.”
Jeff Burton is one that sticks out. Always really strong on the plate tracks with both Roush and RCR (winning the Duel race in 2011 iirc) and having a few runner ups at Talladega.
Definitely Stewart sticks out more than anyone else, 49 career wins and a huge amount at Daytona just not the 500
2nd alltime on the Daytona wins list, along with 4 wins in summer race.
I think you missed Harry Gant in this list. He had some speed in early and mid 80's on superspeedways. He also was a good fuel mileage driver.
When it comes to Stewart I gotta go with 2004 where he dominated the race and was extremely heartbroken when Dale Jr took the lead with 19 laps to go and never looked back.
I honestly believe his best chances to win were with Joe Gibbs Racing. Just luck was never on his side.
Donnie Allison would have been a good addition to this list. He was always fast at Daytona and came close to winning the 500 several times only to be denied by a flat tire or a crash.
Ouch. Brad and Kyle both losing it again on late restarts in 2023...
So close for so many. This race only happens once a year so there are so few opportunities to win. KB had that race won but got wrecked! BK had a good chance too!
A single car spin is what took their chances away..
I was so pissed when Busch didn’t win it this year 😔
1. Tony Stewart
2. Mark Martin
3. Rusty Wallace
4. Terry Labonte
5. Kyle Busch
6. Buck Baker
7. Bobby Labonte
8. Ned Jarrett
9. Martin Truex Jr
10. Donnie Allison
I'm in 100% agreement with the order of your list! Maybe Kyle Busch a bit higher but good list👍🏻
A win by fourteen laps would be one of the records difficult to beat.
In 2011 during the closing of the 500, I was in an airport and I saw a red and white car crossing the line on tv, and I thought it was Terry Labonte in the 32. I had forgotten that the Wood Bros had gone back to the red and white
Man wouldn't that been awesome if Terry Labonte won that late into his career!

He ran well in 2012s 500 too, until he got spun by Ambrose when leading
It took you to #8 to get to SMOKE! Tony Stewart is one of the BEST Racecar drivers of ALL-TIME(period) I'm obviously aware that your list isn't in numerical order by the simple fact that Mark Martin was so low on your list.
There was actually no rhyme or reason on the placement of the drivers. The goal was to mix it up so people didn't know who I was going to talk about next. However, I wanted to save Tony Stewart near the end because that is who most people remember when we talk about this topic.
Gentleman Ned's call - although I didn't like it at the time - is in my opinion the Greatest -
Ned is a Great American
This is some good content, just hang in there and the subs and views will come
The fact that 3,000 people have decided to subscribe to my content already feels like a huge accomplishment. Thank you and don't worry, I will keep pushing forward!
Rusty Wallace. Tony Stewart. DONNIE ALLISON!!
Good videos Daytona 500 good luck
I'm starting to think Busch will never get one.
I sure hope so I have 0 respect for that childish sore loser crybaby
He was so close this year, for a minute, I was thinking, welp... gotta change the video haha
@@vanillawafer176 maybe next year? He’s got some more attempts until his Daytona Loss streak becomes permanent.
Kyle has a couple of more opportunities; he may take as long as Dale Earnhardt did at 20 years if he lasts that long. But I think with RCR behind him, they know that he is hungry to win and they have a good superspeedway program and I think that he is going to learn from this year's defeat and come back strong next year. Kyle really doesn't need a Daytona 500, he has won a bunch of victories, but like Dale Earnhardt before him, a Daytona 500 would be a special win for him.
@Evan Williams difference is Dale was actually good Kyle crybaby is overrated trash just a childish sore loser man-child
For me, Brad Keselowski really had it in the bag this year till the final lap
I know, I felt like he was going to get his first win with his team.... sadly not yet.
Well, I'm going to Atlanta this March.
Hopefully he wins that one
Kyle Busch deserved it more. Would have won if we didn't have overtime.
What About Greg Biffle Or Carl Edwards?
As a fan I have to say what happened with Carl Edwards? Otherwise you got a pretty solid list here..
That was one that I wish I included. It was a 3 way battle between him, Ricky Rudd, and Truex. I decided to go with Rudd to add some older drivers into the mix. All of them super talented drivers with superspeedway woes.
I was a huge Mark Martin fan, and i was extremely disappointed when Harvick beat him. Thats was also his first part time year, when everyone was trying to get him to run the full schedule. I am dead set that he would have won the championship had he raced the full schedule. That 01 team waas strong, until Ginn's fraud bit him in the rear.

Bush 0-18 as of Feb 19
None of this is shocking since it only happens once a year and is known to be a complete crap shoot and based as much on luck and the position of the moon as on skill and a great car.
Ginn is pronounced with a hard G not the J sound, great video nonetheless!!
I was watching Brock Beard's video on Ginn Racing two days ago and heard the name pronounce with a G. I was like, "Uh oh, got that name wrong" haha
Bobby Labonte would have won in 1998 if NASCAR hadn't saved Lord Dale with that weak race-ending caution for a 2-car non-contact spin.
Yeah, I said it.
Brad Keslowski should've won it and after him Kyle Busch both had a chance.
You need just as much luck as skill and strategy to win at Daytona.
What about Derrick Cope? Oops i forgot. Lol
2019 if Kyle didn’t decide to work with Denny he would’ve won the race
I have a question Kyle Busch won the Daytona course in 2021 does that count or does he have to win the Daytona 500
He has the win the Daytona 500. Definitely needs to be the crown jewel win.
Thank you for answering my question
The best drivers never won a Daytona 500 is Cole Custer lol
But in all seriousness oh my gosh his luck on the Great American race is atrocious as a fan of him
When he has a good run something bad happens
It's paintful
Literally last year he was 7th 7TH! in the last stage until he have the pit to time because it was some stupid fuel issue costed him a top 10 ugh.
I hope the next time he comes into the Cup Series, he has more opportunities to capture more wins. Custer does have the talent, just needs to do a reset down in the Xfinity Series.
Cole Custer hasn't even run 5 daytona races
Stenhouse fan here, I feel your pain. Dude won 2 plate races and now always runs up front only to get caught in a mess that (90% of the time) he hasn't caused.
That would be my boy Rusty Wallace he was the best
Emp…? Is that you?
No, but thank you for comparing me to him. He is awesome!
Kyle should have won the 2023 Daytona 500 and it’s really **** that it ended the way it did
Tony Stewart GOAT statistics:
3 championships
49 wins
1 vehicular manslaughter
Kyle Petty
😂
Mark Martin should have won in 2007. Tony Stewart should have won 2004,2005, and 2008.
What about Dave Marcus???
The biggest ones today are Kyle Busch, MTJ and Brad Keslowski, I hope Chae Elliott gets him one
I'm sure Chase will win one. He is super talented at plate racing.
I think chase and William Bryan both will win 1
You called mark martin a kid. He’s probably twice your age. So are you a toddler?
Mate, "The Kid" is literally his nickname lol
You call yourself a cookie but your busting a man's chops over a nickname ? That's Great !😆
oooof you’re a fool. it’s his nickname.
