FINALLY! A 10mm that does what it says and should do! Even the name lives up to the worth of what they are. Thank you for the Gentleman who sent these in as well! I've seen these somewhere before a while back as well.
I carry these in my longer barrel 10mm and use them for hunting. I have bagged a hog and a deer with these. They are faster than most 180g loadings but deliver a 200g punch! In a 5in barrel they will average 1300 fps!
@@ToolsandTargets hey man, speaking of 10mm ammo.... you know the new P320-XTEN 10mm handgun from Sig Sauer that came out about a little over a year ago? well I just ordered one for myself as a companion piece to my currently-owned P320 in 9mm, and already got some spicy Self-Defense 10mm rounds from Underwood Ammo to go with it. The reason I did this, is because the Marlin Dark Series 1895 lever-action that I originally wanted in .45-70 was unavailable, and will be for quite some time. So I thought to myself "fuck it, I already own a P320 in 9mm, might as well pair it with a 10mm variant".
For soft-skinned defense it has excellent performance, but I would very strongly recommend against using it for bear defense. I live in Grizzly/Black Bear country and occasionally have them on my property. They have very tough hides, muscles, and thick bones. You need deep penetration with a projectile that will not fragment. This calls for a good hard cast solid lead or equivalent FMJ that won't break apart. Forget expansion. It means nothing to a bear. Only deep penetration to a vital organ, preferably the brain, will reliably stop a bruin.
I totally get your gripe about watered down 10mm. I own half dozen .40SW pistols and always cracks me up when much more expensive 10mm is running in .40SW speeds.
I confirmed with their customer service that is an error. They have the same loadout data from their 124gr loadings. They told me their 147's are 1275fps from a 5 inch barrel.
Thanks for confirming. It was on my to-do list. I’m surprised something like that could slip through. Seemed too good to be true. I wonder if the 90gr is overstated at well at 1890fps.
This Grizzly ammo is worth writing home about. As Tools mentioned, the original specification for 10mm was for a 200-grain bullet to have a striking velocity at 50 yards (actually meters, but yards is close enough) of at least 1,000 feet per second when fired from a 5" barrel. The Glock 20 with its 4.6" barrel gave us that and then some. It averaged 1134 feet per second with a low of 1124 fps and a high of 1146 fps at 50 yards. That's an average of 570 energy foot pounds with a low of 560 efp and a high of 583 efp at 50 yards. Very respectable. What's really interesting, though, is how this ammo performed out of the G29. At 50 yards, it averaged 1068 feet per second with a low of 1064 fps and a high of 1082 fps. That gives us an average of 506 energy foot pounds with a low of 502 efp and a high of 519 efp. If Grizzly can make 10mm ammo that will easily meet real 10mm specifications out of a subcompact pistol, other ammo manufacturers have absolutely no excuse for making 10mm ammo that can't even make it out of a full sized gun.
Got to try to lay hands on a couple boxes of these bad boys. I got to say it was great seeing you soo happy with the performance of these Bad Boys.. Your passion for true 10mm performance is contagious because I've been bitten by the same bug. Can't get enough of it. Great test, thanks for your hard work to help us all make a informed decision before we spend our own money 💰
I've been looking into getting a 10mm before my next backpacking trip. Thank you to the person who sent you the ammo and thank you for testing it for all of us.
Super test, Tools. So good to see a company that puts a lot into their product. Couldn't ask for more. Thank you for your perseverance and dedication to your quest for excellence in firearms and ammo. We are all in your debt!
Great test tools! Love all your ammo tests but the 10mm is arguably my favorite. I’d like to see your top 3 or 5 10mm rounds battle it out to see who’s king!
Another good round! Thank you for all the 10mm testing. I just bought a Springfield XDM Elite 10mm 4.5”. I’m waiting on it to be delivered to my local gun shop. I’m kinda on the fence with the Fort Scott Munitions TUI. Just don’t know what to think of those. Have a great day!
The lightweight high velocity loads in 10mm I would NOT recommend using for self defense. They explode into fragments upon impact, don't penetrate very deeply, and the issue with light-for-caliber bullets at a decent distance (say 40 yards), they shed off velocity crazy fast due to low momentum and terrible ballistic coefficient due to their stubby length.
What the difference in result then between a grizzley load: 200 gr 1250fts @700lb And the underwood self defense: 155 gr 1700 fts @ 700lb Both penetrated 13 to 14 inches What am I missing? Why is one for grizzley and the other only rated for 2 legers?
Good test, Brian! It's good to know at least some companies are actually pushing the 10mm up to where it should be! I'll bet the recoil from the G29 was a bit snappy! I've never seen the Grizzly ammo for sale but will keep an eye out for them. I'll agree, they could have used a bit more penetration but these weren't horrible at all. I suspect that in a less homogenous medium these bullets might show more loss and maybe even some jacket & core seperation, although it probably wouldn't make much difference with their over all performance! Not bad, not bad at all! Cheers, jc
I've got an extension but when I bought mine, it wasn't a +2! I may get new ones one of these days as I like the idea of a couple extra rounds, being a firm believer in "make 'em duck" shots! Cheers, jc
@@jmichaelcarbonniere9549 I did the same thing. I bought the regular pinky extenders with no ext capacity but then saw the +2. They are a hair longer too so it lets my entire pinky on the grip with these. Perfect fit.😎👍
Glad to see you find some good 10mm Tools!! You are one of only a few channels that i watch regardless of whether i have that caliber or not, due to how you present yourself and the info. Always a good showing from you sir! Btw iam patiently waiting for you to get back to some rifle testing, maybe those hornady 55gr soft points we talked about awhile ago and someone sent you some of them. I know your a busy man, but its just that we respect your results and opinions on guns and ammo and thats why you have some many ppl asking you to do testing.
The Buffalo Bore in 10 mm is great, but PRICEY; this Grizzly may be the best compromise of performance and price on the market for an expanding 10mm. Thank you - as usual - for your no holds barred testing and opinion. Everyone benefits from your channel: I have just found my woods carry round for both the G20 & G29. Keep up your most excellent work, and honesty. You, sir, are a man among men.
Thanks for the video, my guy. I'm currently in the market for a 10mm and your videos have been very helpful and informative. I was looking to get a Taurus TH10 but i've seen twice now where a RUclipsr has ejected the mag by accident due to the ambidextrous mag release. Definitely going with a G20 gen 4. Cheers and happy plinking from Ohio.
Tools...Glad you were able to test these. I have some of Grizzly's .45-70 loads and was wondering if I should pick up some 10mm as well. This is great to see!
What a pleasant surprise, when so few seem to be able to get it right it is a nice change of pace when you find one that does. Have a good one brother see you on the next one.
This is what the iconic gun writer Chuck Karwan was talking about in the early '90s. I'm getting some of that to try out. Thanks for the test bro, and thank you to Matt for sending them in.
That is great performance and consistency from both barrel lengths. Nice to see some really good 10mm again. 10mm is a great round when loaded correctly. That was really impressive energy dump. That ammo will go on the nice list. lol 😂. Just got my new PDW 10mm, the Grizzly will be loaded in the magazines for sure! Thanks sharing great job as usual. Be safe my friend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Amazing. I have a G20SF and have never seen velocity like this out of a 200gr factory load!.. This proves that propellent technology is such where loads like this are possible. Hey, just a thought... Since you're expending rounds downrange for velocity, why not set up a target and see what kind of accuracy you can get at the same time? That's what I do. Anyway, just a thought. Great work you're doin..
Out-fuckin-standing! Grizzly Cartridge is good shit! They used to load XTPs. Maybe they still do. But their 180 and 200 gr XTPs have always met or exceeded box velocity for me, and I actually grown to prefer them over Underwood because of their consistency. It could just be me, but it seems like Underwood can drop the ball from time to time and let a lot out that is 100 fps or more below advertised. I would like to know if that is a Nosler projectile. It didn't go as deep as the 200 gr XTP, but it opened up better and still got adequate expansion. If I can find some of these, they might be my new street carry load. At any rate, 10mm is something special when people load it right!
Excellent test! 14” is ideal penetration imo. Full energy dump and perfect expansion. We may have a contender with Buffalo Bore. I still carry the Buffalo Bore and Double Tap 125 grain SCHP in my second magazine. I’m telling you, the DT at 1607 FPS is insane. With a massive HP cavity, as soon as it fills with medium it explodes like a grenade. The permanent wound channel is ridiculous. It has no cuts so it literally explodes at the high velocities.

The boys at Grizzly don't play. Good bunch of guys, very helpful, just call. I get some hard cast w/gas checks and they are a very nice cast. They seem to be a little low on inventory right now for bullets. Ammo seems good,
Finally got to see the results on these 10mm! Hopefully Sportsman's Guide can have them restocked soon. Did not wanna spend the money before seeing your test results.
Man I’m so glad to see you testing the 29 now. I love my 20 but I have carried a 29 everywhere for years and wondered how it would do with underwood 155gr. Hope something like that is coming up. Awesome video as usual.
Ive ran some of their 40 and 9mm stuff over my Chrono, and i cant remember the numbers but i do remember them being as advertised and i was shooting em out of 3.3" barrels
Tools you are THE MAN!! Great testing as always, love you channel and never miss any test you do regardless of wether i have that caliber or not. You are without a doubt the most honest ammo reviewer it there. Be safe brother.
Nice! I saw some Grizzly on sale in your beloved 380. I was going to ask if you would test them. Since I started watching you I don’t buy ammunition till I check your videos. Thanks Tools keep up the great work you do. 🔫💨🍮👍👑🛠️
I went and ordered two boxes immediately after seeing this test. I wanted to get mine before they sold out. I had not even heard of these guys before so thanks so much for the !
Great video , i definitely would carry this ammo , I also love how you show the foot pounds of energy when the gel block is hit , you mentioned this ammo is in your top 5 …… then hell let’s see you make a top 5 10MM ammo Self Defense video 😊 I’m sure a bunch of other folks would love to see that as well
My woods tools are usually stoked with grizzly or buffalo bore. The grizzly 200 grain 357 will put bacon in the fridge every time. The 10 mm has put a dirt nap on a few big boars also. Confident in their stuff to handle bad critters and evil doers
Underwood also does quite well with most of their rimless cartridges, even if their published numbers are a tad nonsense, the actual performance is high. One exception is their 158gr "cherry coated" Keith .38 Special +p. It exceeds Buffalo Bore performance equivalent and penetrates astoundingly well, even from a snub 1.9" barrel. Buffalo Bore typically has the edge over Underwood when it comes to rimmed revolver cartridges, while Underwood has the edge over BB on rimless, as a general rule of thumb.
Now that you have that G 29, I would like to see how the Underwood 115 gr Extreme Defenders, 140 gr Extreme Penetrators, and 150 gr Extreme Hunters do.
Grizzly Ammo the 200gr Hardcast FNGC The bullet is 21 BHN excellent for Bear protection and contains 8.5 of Longshot that actually better than Underwood equivalent load.
Wow, I’m thrilled with these results. I purchased a box last month. But, I’m thinking hard cast for bear country. I’m heading to Montana in the spring. Grizzly country. Thank you for another great video
Ive been shooting this ammo out of a rock island armory ultra rock for a bit now and about 1 per box blows the primer into the firing pin hole causing a light strike on the next round A dry fire pushes it out
You may want to consider installing one or more of the following options: heavier recoil spring, heavier main spring (hammer spring), replacing the firing pin stop with a reduced radius stop to slow the unlocking time and speed of the slide, longer lighter firing pin.
@@dillonostrum9264 I have a 460 Roland that was opening prematurely and piercing primers. I bought a .460 Rowland 1911 Extended Firing Pin, which comes with a reduced radius firing pin plate. I suggest you contact them and explain your situation. They may advise you differently.

The first round looks like it had more disruption than the second round. Still a nice round and test. Now you need to test these and the underwood. Just to see which one is better. Thats only my opinion.
Nice!!! Finally another 10mm loaded the way it should be. A 200 grainer at that! I don’t have to worry about bears in Florida, occasional black bear but this would be excellent hog and deer medicine. The boys at Grizzly don't play. Good bunch of guys, very helpful, just call. I get some hard cast w/gas checks and they are a very nice cast. They seem to be a little low on inventory right now for bullets. Ammo seems good,
Nice
Anytime I see a new 10mm video upload from you, it's like Christmas. Great video bro.
Thank you sir!😎👊
I subscribed after seeing the great info given in this video!! Thank you sir!!
Appreciate that!😎👊
Finally got to see the results on these 10mm!
That is definitely coming up soon.😎👊

I'm requesting a top 5+- 10mm review
I totally respect your hard nosed attitude on 10mm offerings as always greatly appreciated
Ive ran some of their 40 and 9mm stuff over my Chrono, and i cant remember the numbers but i do remember them being as advertised and i was shooting em out of 3.3" barrels
Great test! Glad to see Grizzly performing well!
Ever since I got my Glock 40 long boi 10mm I’ve been eating up the jelly tests. I love 10mm and have been getting some good ammo thanks to you.
wow, that must be some tough brass to handle that! I love that reloading manuals even seem to sway away from full power 10mm load data lol.
I love Grizzly ammo and knew exactly how these tests would go. They make a superb 180gr too.
A 10mm Tools test makes my night. Thank you!
Thanks Tools for another excellent test ! I try to watch all your new videos ! good to see ammo that does what it promises on the box !
Yes I will be getting these for the g29 g20 and the g40 as soon as there in stock.
Nice looking round, it did what it should.
Yep
Tools you are THE MAN!! Great testing as always, love you channel and never miss any test you do regardless of wether i have that caliber or not. You are without a doubt the most honest ammo reviewer it there. Be safe brother.
Nice! I saw some Grizzly on sale in your beloved 380. I was going to ask if you would test them. Since I started watching you I don’t buy ammunition till I check your videos. Thanks Tools keep up the great work you do. 🔫💨🍮👍👑🛠️
Does that g20 have factory recoil spring in it? Great video!
Yessir.😎👊
I went and ordered two boxes immediately after seeing this test. I wanted to get mine before they sold out. I had not even heard of these guys before so thanks so much for the !
Yeah, I noticed on their site last night that it was the only 10mm still in stock. 😎👊
Great video , i definitely would carry this ammo , I also love how you show the foot pounds of energy when the gel block is hit , you mentioned this ammo is in your top 5 …… then hell let’s see you make a top 5 10MM ammo Self Defense video 😊 I’m sure a bunch of other folks would love to see that as well
Thanks for showing the Glock 29 some love. I’ll stay tuned for more G29 test
Yes!! I'm so happy the Grizzly did well!!
Appreciate ya, brother! Definitely some great stuff.😎👊
Wow, surprised me, I've never seen this on the shelf, if I find it I will scoop it up for sure.
Thanks Tools for another fine test....😊
Just found this channel a week ago. You're awesome. Thanks for doing all this work.
Appreciate that!😎👊
Good! I have a box of these. I can load up two mags for my 29 and feel confident in the rounds I'm carrying. Thanks Tools!
Now that you have that G 29, I would like to see how the Underwood 115 gr Extreme Defenders, 140 gr Extreme Penetrators, and 150 gr Extreme Hunters do.
Grizzly Ammo the 200gr Hardcast FNGC
The bullet is 21 BHN excellent for Bear protection and contains 8.5 of Longshot that actually better than Underwood equivalent load.
Seems great for CCW
Wow, I’m thrilled with these results. I purchased a box last month. But, I’m thinking hard cast for bear country. I’m heading to Montana in the spring. Grizzly country.
Thank you for another great video
I ordered 200 of these around Christmas time for 169.00. I'm glad I did. Great test. Thanks
Where did you get it for that smokin price?
For personal defense these things rock. You would be surprised at the price too. Very reasonable. I personally love these things.
I thought about it last fall, but went with Underwood 200
Should be good to go either way.😎👊
@@ToolsandTargets I took it out for deer season.
Nice to see a good performance out of a 10mm, especially out of that G29. Appreciate you as always.
Yessir 😎👊
I'm glad to see you test these I picked some up awhile back nice to see I made a good investment.
Definitely a good one.😎👍
Ima be gettin me some of this stuff! Nice work as always!
You can just tell from the recoil//muzzle flip that it is doing the job.
Very impressive test, this is some ammo I'll be on the hunt for. Appreciate it T!
Ive been shooting this ammo out of a rock island armory ultra rock for a bit now and about 1 per box blows the primer into the firing pin hole causing a light strike on the next round
A dry fire pushes it out
Interesting
You may want to consider installing one or more of the following options: heavier recoil spring, heavier main spring (hammer spring), replacing the firing pin stop with a reduced radius stop to slow the unlocking time and speed of the slide, longer lighter firing pin.
@@Paladin1873 has a 25lbs main spring in it
Do you have a suggestion for firing pins (brand or website)
@@dillonostrum9264 I have a 460 Roland that was opening prematurely and piercing primers. I bought a .460 Rowland 1911 Extended Firing Pin, which comes with a reduced radius firing pin plate. I suggest you contact them and explain your situation. They may advise you differently.
@@Paladin1873 i appreciate the advice and will look into it
Great test! I really like this round. Thank you for doing what you do Tools!
Awesome like my Underwood and Grizzly Awesome test thanks
Thank you sir!😎👊
Holy smokes Tools!! Very Very Impressive! Another 10mm option awesome 🇺🇸👊
I've been waiting for this since your ammo score video about a month ago so happy to see real 10mm is out there I definitely would carry this ammo and the best part is it proves everything you say when your on the rant this is true 10mm👍👍
I always appreciate your content, thanks for your great channel
Good to know because I can actually find this stuff locally. Thanks for the test.
Great test! Thanks again for sharing with us the good 10mill stuff! Want me some of those. Again, you could make a video of just jelly time jingles. I nearly spewed my coffee the last time on the mini van 9mm.
😂 Thank you sir.
Thanks for your evaluation of this 10mm Auto 200 Gr JHP load.
Much appreciated.
Good things! 👍
Great expansion & good penenetration. What seals the deal for me is seeing the front end of that hefty block rise almost 3in off the table. As Mr. Clower use to say Knock'em Out John! Great video.🙏👍
Yessir. It smacked em. 😎👊
The first round looks like it had more disruption than the second round. Still a nice round and test. Now you need to test these and the underwood. Just to see which one is better. Thats only my opinion.
@TooIsandTargets I don't understand.
Would love to see you test 10mm loads from G9, I haven’t been able to find any tests on it and yours are always great.
Those would do some major damage , another great range test, Thank You
Nice!!! Finally another 10mm loaded the way it should be. A 200 grainer at that! I don’t have to worry about bears in Florida, occasional black bear but this would be excellent hog and deer medicine. I’d probably say top 3 of the ones you’ve tested. Good stuff. I will be looking for some. Great video as always my friend 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks for another great test
