🟢I haven't gotten confirmation yet for what type of bullet this is loaded with. I have talked to someone at Underwood and they have confirmed it is not an XTP or any other Hornady bullet or Nosler. They were unable to tell me at a quick glance of their info and are supposed to be looking up the load data and giving me a call back.
In the meantime, after doing some looking on my own, I am strongly leaning towards this being a bullet made by "Dead Nuts Manufacturing." I contacted them as well to see if they could confirm this and was given pretty much the same response that they would have to get with someone better able to answer that and call me back. If/when I hear back or can confirm for sure what this bullet is, I will make an updated post about it.🟢
Agreed. Went over to their site and they have a picture that shows an expanded bullet very similar to the results you got here.
Yeah, I didn't hear back today but hopefully they'll get back to me and confirm it.@@alm9951
Any possibility of you doing a video listing your “Top 5” .380 ammos that you suggest (per what you just mentioned in the video).
@@SuperD00D I've seen some interesting performance out of a Federal 70 gr flat nose 380 as far as penetration (no over-penetration either) and nice damage track.
You saved me a lot of typing!😎👍@@SuperD00D
The hardest working man on RUclips. I know when i want honest and more accurate info on ammo this is definitely the go to channel. As always appreciate what you do Sir keep the videos coming 👍.
Appreciate that bigtime, brother.😎👊
I always want to know what he thinks of ammo even in calibers I don't use. Always a good time watching his videos.
Appreciate that, my friend.😎👊@@phigdon3
@@ToolsandTargetsYou’re the man. Good to know and will be my go to for.380 carry ammo going forward. Wondering if you weee looking to test the grizzly again. Your first test was before you added the clothing barrier and I was curious to see if the cloth will clog the hollow point or change the performance.
Thank you sir. I can put those back on the updated test list. I need to go back and see which all ones need a cloth retest.@@adamannala5498
That is the best performance out of a .380 I've seen.👍
There are a few others I would say did as well, but none any better for sure. They're at a great price right now too.😎👍
@@ToolsandTargets except maybe the UW XD and XP? I trust the extra penetration of that ammo a bit more and expect that it would be less affected by bone etc. Half the time I just want to go with hot flat nose hardcast for 380 and call it a day lol. I think this is why I try to stick to 10mm for edc 💥
@@ToolsandTargetsDidn’t the Winchester fmj flat nose penetrate further than all of them with a decent wound channel, if I’m not mistaken?
Yeah, I'm always a fan of fmj in .380.@@autocompletellc9906
Pretty good performance out of both barrels actually.
Agreed
Dang! If you insist on carrying a 380, I think this is definitely a load to go with. Very impressive performance!
And very reasonably priced.😎👍
I've been watching your channel for years, and lately, especially the .380 tests, to determine what ammo I want to use for my EDC, the LCP Max. I was all set to go on another test you did which performed well, but was pretty expensive. Your test of the Underwood .380 +P was EXACTLY what I was looking for - something that would reach the 12"+ mark and actually expand.
I went to the Underwood site and they had 20-round boxes on sale for less than $12.60, so I picked up two boxes, shipped to my house for just over $40.00 total.
Many thanks for your in-depth (no pun intended), accurate & comprehensive testing that the average person doesn't have access to.
Absolutely. This is some of the best .380 I have tested and at a good price.😎👊
Surprisingly, for 380 nice!🎉
Agree. One of the better ones for sure.
I definitely love this they performed well I just can’t stand the people that say you need 12 inches of penetration as an EMT that has seen multiple gunshot wounds. I can tell you that 12 inches is a crock of shit I’ve seen plenty of people die getting shot with 380 bullets that only got 8 inches in ballistics gel
I plan to order a bunch of these to go along with the Extreme Defender P+ I already use in my 380s. Again, due to nerve damage in both hands, I'm often only able to use my 380 pistols such as the Sig P365-380 or my EZ380 which is a tack driver for me at defensive distances. Tool I appreciate you still looking at 380 rounds as some of us have to use 380s. I can use my 9mm S&W Equalizer sometimes. I do use the LCP Max as my pajama gun so I can stay strapped at all times even at home. I appreciate your work on 380s as that's most often what I have to carry. I'm sure there are plenty of older guys like me who do the same due to physical limitations. I watch your videos no matter what ammo I'm considering.
Appreciate that, my friend! I might rant about it, but I secretly love all the calibers!😉
Great job showing .380 doing some work. My 2nd and 3rd pistol were .380. I reloaded them for over 12 years without an issue. Keep up the great work you do on your channel.
Appreciate that. These got it done.😎👍
I am a firm believer in 380, always have been. Besides the tools made for it, this is good looking ammunition.
Absolutely.😎👍
Wow! Color me impressed! I wasn’t expecting that. The .380 gremlin stayed away on this one. I might have to make another Underwood order. I love their ammo. I tried some of the .44 magnum that I just got in and they’re definitely palm stingers lol. Even the special was a little warm. Phenomenal results for the fickle.380. 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Yeah, I sure was surprised. These things are really reasonably priced too.
Those.380 rounds from Underwood totally impressed me Tools 👍🇺🇸. Another great Ammo test 👊.
Same here. Thank you sir.😎👊
@@ToolsandTargetsare these hornady xtp jhp bullets?
@@RabbiTosmiser No, I never got confirmation as to what these were. They no longer load them.
Underwood has always been the shit!! It’s my personal carry loads for 9, 45 and 10.
Yeah, they rarely fail to impress.😎👊
Life is like a box of .380, you just never know what you're gonna get! 🍬 I am impressed with a few 380 rounds you have sampled. I would have to lean to the S&W for sure! Happy FRiday appreciate ya brother! 💥💥
Absolutely. A good surprise for a change.😎👊
Lol 😂
That's been my chosen load for my .380 pistols (except for my older Colt Gov't) for a few months now.
I was also under the impression these were XTP, but it doesn't surprise me much that Underwood found a different projectile better suited for the .380 acp.
Thanks for this test. I was already fairly confident in these loads, but now, even more so.
Nice. I thought they were XTP too which is why I hadn't bothered to test em. These did great.😎👍
The XTP loading says "XTP JHP" on the box ... I believe this is the Underwood in-house bullet.
Yeah, I've been aware of these rounds but haven't used them because, for my wife, they probably would jump to much. Thats why she carries 380 in the first place. But they still did awesome! Maybe we'll give them a shot. Thanks for the review!
They are snappy out of the LCP for sure. Had to regrip after popping each one.
Whatever the projectile is, Underwood needs to use these from now on! Everything so far has been sub-par, but these are the real deal, especially in +P. Thanks for another great, and not dissapointing .380 test. These would be a great carry option!
Yeah, I guess one good thing about having to look for other bullet options during the scamdemic was they ran across a gem like this.
Awesome test Tools. Finally, a 380 load that performs the way we expect. This is nice to see. To hear you giving a thumbs up is a good reference for this ammo.
Be vigilant and always be safe my friend.
Have a great weekend.
Thank you sir. This is why I don't think I'll ever stop testing rounds. Never know when a good one is waiting to show what it can do.😎👊
Im going to get myself some of these rounds. Thanks for the test and the heads up.
They have em on sale right now too.😎👍
Thanks. Both look good enough and that's rare in this caliber. Especially out of the short barrel.
Yessir. Can't ask for much more out of what they are.
Great to see you shootin again !! Thanks for the video.
Thank you sir. Been a rough couple of weeks around here. Me and my wife both got that trash, and my dog is still sick with some kinda stomach issue. Was good to get back out in some fresh air.
Just ordered 4 boxes about an hour ago! Could be my future go-to in all of my 380's. Thanks for the best testing on RUclips!
The price on it is fantastic for this performance. Appreciate ya!😎👊
Best ballistic channel on YT. This video just sold me on this 380 defensive round. Thank you kind sir and keep up the good work!
Thank you for testing these bad boys. These have been around almost a year. They are one of my favorites carry rounds in the G42. Test yours for reliability in cycling, as with any ammo. Underwood does like to put these on sale also.
How snappy is that in a G42?... it's got to be very snappy in an LCP.
@@antoniotula262 it is definitely snappier than standard velocity loads in the G42. However, the G42 handles that recoil much better than my LCP 🙂 Underwood also sells it in the standard loading which is not bad at all. I don't want to detract from Tools excellent testing format in saying this, but it is relevant. I have tested both loads from Underwood out of various tools and through bare gel and denim covered. The least penetration I've seen is 9" in bare gel. The most is 16" through 4 layers of denim. Expansion from nothing up to .58 inches. Most of the time the bullets expand well. They seem to like the longer barrels and the +p loading for more consistent expansion. A few were clogged with denim and did not expand but did tumble.
My good friend has a G42 also and has had cycling issues with these. I have not, but my Ruger security 380 loves these but hates Fiocchi Defense Dynamics, (similar looking but NOT the same bullet) so do test them for reliability in your tool.
@@erichanson7293 Thanks, very informative!
Thanks Tools,
As finicky as .380 ammo generally can be this was a pleasant surprise.
Yessir. Love starting a day of testing out with a good one.
Hey Tools, great test as always. Keep up the good work Sir! 👍👍👊
Thank you sir. Appreciate that.😎👊
My source for info on 380 rounds as most often at 71 that's all I can carry.
I really like the cutting edges on those bullets too. Underwood does it again. It’s what is in all my defense handguns. Thanks for the great test my friend.
Great stuff.😎👊
Finally, some great results out of the .380 platform. That was a pleasant surprise great job. Good test and commentary. That .380 is EZ is an awesome Tool. 100% spot on agreement. Great expansion and the cloth did not win in this situation. That would be my go to for my Performance Center .380 EZ definitely picking those up. Thanks for sharing and be safe. ⭐️⭐️🇺🇸⭐️⭐️
Gotta love seeing another good option.😎👊
Success is always a good thing. For our self defense brethren who are using 380 this is a good option. This is encouraging. Good results. Thank you for the demonstration and data.
Absolutely. Appreciate you, my friend.😎👊
Underwood delivered on that round for sure. These are going on my 380 list. Getting near time to break out your red, white and blue cap. Had a few frosty mornings here in eastern NC as well. Appreciate you brother. Glad you're feeling better. Have a great weekend.
Thank you sir. I actually had it on when I first got out there but that sun started heating up my brain.😂
@@ToolsandTargets 😂😂😂
With 1100FPS+ from 9mm Kurz +P out of the LCP one wonders what they could coax out of Best mm. This is the best JHP performance I can remember from 380 but I question how many of these the LCP or P3AT can handle. Thank you for the great work!
It was snappy in the LCP for sure. Little bit of trigger slap from it.
I've been carrying this ammo for over a year in my Kahr ct380, love it!
Nice. Nobody told me!😆
Resent my bought a Ruger Lcp Max and I am looking for the correct ammo. Your test is sincerely honest. Thanks for the info.
Nice test! I would certainly carry these, or the Defiant Munitions. These are the only jacketed expanding rounds in .380 I’ve seen do so well that I can recall.
Agreed. Lead or copper is basically the only question there.
Don’t mind me haunting the comments!
Those bullets reminded me of some of PMC bullets that perform at about 1100fps from 9mm. I think you are just pleasantly surprised.
Great 380 video man, i believe i may just have found the new round for my mom's gun Tools! That thing did awesome, i have bought her some extreme defenders before and currently using them, but these could definitely be a nice addition to her options. She runs an ez as well just not the performance center model.
Thank you sir. Gotta love options. These are a good price too.
Good test with good results, thank you for all your hard work
Appreciate that, my firend.😎👊
I’m going to the gun store Thursday to pick up some Underwood for my Ruger LCP Max Anniversary with 12 round magazines. Thanks, for going through all the expense. It cost a lot to do all those test.
Thanks Tools for another good one ! I will definitely be running that in my max as soon as I get my hands on some !
Appreciate ya, brother!😎👊
Awesome Tools, I stocked up on this during underwood sale a while back, for my lcp max, thank you so much for this thorough test!
Nice! Definitely worth stocking up on.😎👊
About time a 380 round did what it's supposed to do. Fantastic test brother tools 💯
Thank you sir. Good way to start the day of testing!😎👊
Very impressive for a 380 JHP! 👍
Especially out of the EZ! 13.25" @ 1155fps, which was 67fps slower that its 1212fps average. Penetration should be at least 14" with velocities above 1200fps. This one just might beat out the Underwood Xtreme Defender for best ammo for an EZ.
But, not so much for LCP Max. While 12.25" is adequate, in your previous tests with Underwood Xtremes out of the LCP Max, the Defenders went 13"~15.75" and the Penetrators went 16.5"~17"!
So, for my EZ, I just might switch to the Underwood JHP.
But, for my Sig P365-380 (3.1"), I'm sticking with the Underwood Xtremes.
Nice performance in a 380. Thanks for the video.
Yessir 😎👊
You just can’t beat a good Underwood round
I’m impressed 👊🏻
This is the first of the .380s' that I've seen do pretty well , I'm actually impressed . It makes me look at the .380 in a different light . I don't own one but I;m considering getting one now .Thank you for this test .
Appreciate that! These are easily in the top .380 rounds that I've tested.
I'm a new-ish subscriber and you do some of the best ammo reviews I have come across. I love you keep everything as Apple to Apple as possible as a small RUclips producer. I would like to see some type of spreadsheet rankings on ammo you have tested so where we know where each ammo lies per caliber, so we know how to compared. But you keep up making great videos
Yay I almost ordered some of these but I wasn’t sure. Great performance!😁
Well worth the price.😎👍
Nice change of pace for the 380 testing. 🇺🇸
Definitely.😎👊
And also for handloaders, you can buy the 90 grain , and load them in 9mm luger cases. Ive tested a few, and usually get 1400 fps from a 3.3 lnch barrel, excellent expansion and 14 or 15" inches of penetration
I really like Underwood Ammunition. They make some great products. Another company that makes copper fluted rounds similar to the other ammo thst Underwood makes is a company called G9 Defense. They also make a flatnose solid copper called the Woodsman. The one video I saw the 45 acp +P Woodsman sent a massive shockwave through 36 inches of gel which is what it was designed to do. Maximum penetration on dangerous animals. The fluted load is very similar to Underwood Xtreme Defender. Sure wish yiu would check them out sometime too.
Pretty sure I have seen those. Might be good to compare them against the XD's to see if the shape makes a difference.
Buds had 4 boxes of these left in stock. SKU 152, glad i could find some since it dosent look like they are making them anymore. They were marked down to $15 a box as well! Wish they had more.
Nice. The price is just icing on the cake.😎👊
Wow! 380 hollow point that actually works! Gotta get some of that. Thanks.
It's a short list.😎👍
Nice results. Thanks for testing for us!
Appreciate you, brother!😎👊
Great video, definitely a top performing 380 round. I do wonder if the non +p of this loading would perform similarly or come up short without that extra velocity.
Thank you sir. Had someone else wonder that same thing. I'll have to grab some and check it out.😎👍
And again, T&T saving lives by finding .380 loads that actually work! THX
So good to see an offering in .380 that performs admirably as there are so few options that do so. I fully expect these to start selling like hotcakes now 😂 Have a good one brother see you on the next one.
Yeah, I should have tried to get me an affiliate link first!🤣
I really appreciate you using tools with difficulty barrel lengths. I’ve got an LCP that I never carry. It’s broken twice but Ruger’s customer service is outstanding. Still wouldn’t carry it 😆 I love my little Glock 42. It’s only slightly bigger yet it feels like a real gun and always gives me an extra 100 fps over the LCP. In this caliber, barrel length is huge. Thanks man
You have given us a new round to recommend to our students at Family Defender Institute. THANK YOU
Thank you sir. Appreciate the support. This is a fantastic .380 round.😎👍
Definitely some of the best 380 action I’ve seen so far. Curious what bullet they load, have a box of their XTP rounds. Thanks for another sweet jelly test Tools!
Thank you sir. I definitely wanna confirm what bullet this is. 😎👊
I bought 100 rounds of the same stuff. It's very impressive for .380 ammo. It does some good damage to soft targets and performs more like a hotter 9mm round. I'm shooting it out of a 3.75 inch barrel so I'm definitely getting that projected velocity or better.
Thanks Tools! Finally, a 380acp carry round that actually preforms! I will be getting some for my Remington rm380, as most times is what I carry, when I don't have a coat on.
Great rounds here.😎👊
Glad they did well since I have some 👍. I looked at a few different rounds but I'm not sure if they might be a Berrys. Works well whomever makes it. Great velocity & good wound channel for not being a solid copper projectile. Impressive! Thanks for the info.
And they're priced right.😎👍 If you look at the bullets on the Dead Nuts ammo website, they look identical.

I think we have a couple more warm days sneakin in the next couple days and then it's 🥶🥶🥶
I have an LCP Max but since I got a Glock 43, I've never really carried it, not so much for the difference in the guns, but because of the difference in what I felt between the capabilities of the chamberings. This stuff might change that! Not bad... not bad... I'd feel pretty well-armed with that stuff.
Surprisingly good performance, especially from the MAX. Great test.
Sure did surprise me. Thank you sir.😎👊
Nice video, I'm glad to see something that works in the max. I'm carrying the fort scott now.😊
This is the ammo we've been using since 2015 I think, I use it in my Kahr 380s probably shot several 100 rounds of it and it has a kick but it hasn't cause and unusual wear on my handguns even though it not recommended even discouraged to shoot +P ammo thru semi-automatics...
What is your handgun?
i need a box of this for my lcp max this underwood jhp ammo did out standing
Got to take a look at these. Just got a Ruger security 380 for the wife to use instead of her Ruger LCP Max. The max is so hard for her to shoot accurately, and I stink with it also. The bigger one is terrific, and with good ammo I would feel better.
The Buffalo board Barnes x tech in 380 is a monster
It looks like the 380 Ficchio ammo you tested about a month ago. The 380 aphp
It does look very similar. I actually was looking through all my .380 stuff earlier and noticed the same thing.😎👍
Grateful presentation as usual. Federal hst 99 grain seems to work very well.
Hmm, I might have a new .380 round now. The main .380s I tote (when I tote one) is a Kahr CW380 and a Beretta 84, so about the same barrel lengths as tested here. Color me impressed.
Same. I always assumed these were XTP so kept passing them by.
Nice! I usually carry my LCP with flat nose fmjs. I may buy some of these.
Looks like great .380 defensive performance, but I'm personally sticking with the total copper expanding round from Defiant Munitions, since it's just an 80gr bullet - that weight adds up
Guess it depends on which precious metal you wanna invest in. Copper or lead.😎👍
Did someone say Defiant Munitions. Don’t mind me creeping the comments 😉 appreciate your business!
@@FraserDMCheck the pin comment again. You guys are in the Top 5. Congrats, keep up the good work.
Nice performance from both guns. Another outstanding review! #ballistic #jellytime
Thank you sir.😎👊
You should have known, Underwood ammo would perform as advertised. Also their barrier blind XD rounds in .380 are guaranteed to work, no testing needed.
That is some great performance from a 380 especially in the EZ! Unfortunately my little 380 isn't rated for +p and specifically warns against it...if I had my Glock 42 still that would be my new carry round. Right now I'm carrying the Browning Performance version of the Winchester FMJ. It's supposed to be loaded to the same specs as the Browning defense ammo so I'm pretty comfortable with it when I have to carry my 380. That Winchester flat point is IMO the best non expanding 380 bullet. Not a fan of the the XD bullets.
Also, the V Crown you tested a while back did pretty good too. I'm still in the solid bullet camp for 380 though.
Agreed. The Winchester flat nose fmj is a top choice for .380 in my opinion. I think expansion is overrated but it sure is nice when these expanders actually do what they claim.
@ToolsandTargets I gave up on expanding 380s, I just don't trust em to go deep enough in the event they do expand. I agree expansion is overrated at least to some extent, it doesn't do you any good if the penetration isn't there. I only carry my 380 when I absolutely can not carry something bigger anyway.
They both performed great. For 380 thanks for sharing the information. 👍
😎👊
Nice performance.
Can we get a show down battle between theses and the Hydro-shok deeps? Maybe add a 3rd in of your choice.
Wouldn't be a bad idea. A lead expander showdown.🤔
I’ve got a couple boxes of those, I thought it was a hydroshock deep bullet then realized no post. Currently just run the 90gn extreme penetrator +P in my Glock 42
I was able to find some boxes of this online and ordered some.
thanks so much for the testing there tools.
its starting to get cold where im at, and where my youngest brother lives he says its already snowing there lol.
I hate to even think about it. The worst part is the wind when it's freezing outside.🥶🥶🥶
I bought 2 boxes of this ammo one box worked perfect in my g42 the other box the ammo felt like it was loaded a little hotter and gave some feed and extraction problems I love tools and targets videos but just about anything will work in a 380 check for reliability and aim (point) at the 💋 lips.
Pretty impressive for a 380 round!
Defintiely
Wow color me impressed, i was weary on getting a 380 because of performance but i might have to look more into in.. great test
i recently bought a ruger lcp max and it perfromed excellent, not snappy at all, and dead acurate at 15 meters with 24 inch penetration using seiler and bellot fmj round nose ammo...
You just explained it yourself. You wont feel anything with trash ammo like that, but you'll also be getting trash performance.
Thanks Tools!
😎👊
That’s a surprise I agree with you Tools.
Good surprise for a change.😎👍
Very much appreciate your doing this video. Straight up plain talk and information. Thank you.

Very nice ! Ive liked what ive seen from underwood and have a few different loading of it and just get a box of 38 spl +p fmjs to try in new tool. Thanks for info ! I was a lil S of you in NC last cpl days for chilly wearher but about 10F warmer there during day m
Nice. It's gonna be 70 again for a couple days next week but then it looks like the cold is dug in hard.😆
That will definitely be worth carrying over ball ammo. Stuff expands like a HST. I ain't gonna lie. .380 is my backup or lone carry pocket gun at the doctor's office.
Best .380 ammo ever invented. I'd be surprised to hear anyone say otherwise, except for those who have never seen it compared to any other rounds. I'm sure the other calibers are good too... but in .380, it's even better than most 9mm rounds. It performs far better in almost every single aspect and is by far the most barrier blind round ever invented. (and it's funny, because it's not new technology at all. I believe there were similar rounds invented back in during WWII if not before that). Don't matter what you shoot through for the most part, the round will almost always perform the same. Can send them through dry wall, denim, leather, plexiglass, thin sheet metal, simulated bone, glass and windshields, etc... etc... and still have it penetrate about the same as if it never passed through the barrier. Have never really seen any comparable rounds except the other similar rounds made by Underwood/Lehigh. I just refuse to buy them myself, because I believe the prices to be very unfair. There's no justification for such a high price (morally in my opinion). Yeah, they have the Right to charge that much, but that don't make it fair. You can reload them yourself for $1 cheaper per rd, so they literally charge you $1/rd just to load them with their mass production machines... and even the price of loading them yourself is abnormally high. The cost of the copper is only a fraction of a penny and the time/money to manufacture them is also extremely inexpensive, yet they charge easily 10x more than the bullets are worth (and that's 10x more than if they were to make a fair profit and not just 10x the cost of the finished product).
Great job on this test. Certainly the best performance I've ever seen out of any 380 round. I wish you'd test Underwood's XTP version for comparison. I'd love to see how XTPs perform at these velocities in comparison to these. Since they aren't naming what this projectile is, I got to wonder if they will be able to continue to offer it long term whereas I suspect XTPs to be available for the foreseeable future. In the mean time I bought a fair amount of the tested ammo and will be using it as my 380 carry round. Thanks for the great work!
Thank you sir. I know I have some XTP load from them. Might be the standard pressure. I'll have to check it out.😎👍
Hard to beat anything that says Underwood on it!
