People were skeptical when I bought mine, but I've converted a lot of people. Less up front, lower insurance, better warranty, lower operating costs, and I bought one for me with my configuration and one for my gf with her configuration and paid the for both for the same as one of the competition.
Genesis vehicles are super safe too - Tiger Woods was driving a Genesis SUV at 140km/h, smashed into a central median on the road, and then flew into brush hitting a tree. As per the accident report, the only reason Woods survived was because the Genesis’s strong passenger compartment stayed intact throughout the crash.
Great review thanks Simone. There is also some very cool tech in the steel used for Genesis. I don't recall the details, but they have some super strong high-strength steel safety cell around the passengers. It's used in at least the G70 and Kia Stinger. I have not investigated the G80 in as much depth, but it looks like the business - interested to learn if Genesis have the same consistent approach on all their fleet. I'm really interested in a G70 wagon, which is not yet confirmed for Australia - it would be great to have a good handling luxury wagon in Oz.
Am I ready to buy a Genesis over the "big 3"? 100%. I drive a S Class and would happily own a G80. I would like the G90 to come to the Aussie shores too. That way Genesis can diversify its range and give the Germans a real run for their money.
Amazed that Genesis has been released in Right Hand Drive given the target markets must be North America, Middle East and South East Asia. Can't imagine we will get it here in the UK given the dumpster fire Infiniti was in the same segment. Love the review. Love from UK.
I agree with you as to a "prestigious name." I think Lexus did break into that market here in the US. Maybe the Koreans can with Genesis BUT they do need separate dealerships. Lexus has likely the best customer experience at dealerships (I owned BMW (mostly) and Lexus). But Genesis here sells through Hyundai dealers. Not a great marketing plan. :( I always look forward to your reviews. Intelligent reviews and - - so pretty!!
7:55 Damn, was expecting a nice fine female hand, and a male hand comes out. Shook me for a sec 😂 The "big 3" have you hood winked. Smart buyers would buy this over those overpriced similar specced Euros.
Buyers in this demographic usually are on 3 year leases (etc) and want the German badges as 'Statement" devices. So. Genesis seems to be in the Lexus space. Must ask my nearest neighbour who goes 3 yrs on AMG's & now has a Porsche SUV till '23 .. My take. Anyone who buys a Genesis as the second owner, is on the WINNER. [ironic but logical.]
It looks ok it’s a weird blend of American and Korean but it’s a bit dated already which is weird. It looks like it’s should’ve been released 5-8 years ago. Although the back 3/4 does look very good.
@@JohnSmith-ve8pd Yes, in terms of size. But the Lexus is a modified Avalon, fwd car. The G80 is rwd architecture, turbo charged, like the Germans. It's not really the same thing.
At 10:25 is reported that it has 15 cubic feet or 424 liters of trunk or boot space. This is the typical FAKE GOURMET sedan, the one that comes ready to be swallowed by an SUV. In the ranking of decent sedans (TOP 500 SEDANS) with a trunk capacity above 500 liters or 17.6 cubic feet it does not enter. The trunk of this car is smaller than the trunk of the Renault Megane, a HATCHBACK sold in Australia which has a trunk of 434 liters or 15.3 cubic feet of capacity.
@@chickeee The Toyota Corolla, the best-selling car in the world for over 10 years and the best-selling medium sedan in Brazil, has a trunk with a capacity of 470 liters. Sedans with less trunk capacity than these two are doomed to fail, at least in Brazil, are considered SEDAN FAKE GOURMET, those who are born ready to be swallowed by an SUV.
The roots of the korean car industry ... are in the GM technology. So ... owning a korean car ... is owning a car with an american DNA ... but built by the serious & relatively cheap korean labour force. A good deal I'd say ... considering that I know first hand about the subject: I made over 300k km ... behind the wheel of a korean car. 👍
So ... between a G80 and a Cadillac ... I will choose a G80. Between a G80 and a Mercedes ... definitely a Mercedes. And not because G80 would be inferior technically. On the contrary ... I feel like the korean reliability overpassed the german one. But a Mercedes is a Mercedes. 🙂
BTW ... I believe that is a wrong approach ... to try to win over the german trio ... copying the style of Bentley ... owned by a brand who doesn't belong to the trio. 😃
So ... consequently ... owning a G80 ... it's an even more comic tag: "I'm an old fart ... I feel sporty ... but I'm not wealthy enough ... to own a Bentley. Succintly put ... I'm an old, sporty, poorish fart". 😃
My conclusion ? The trio can be beaten only with a design absolutely original ... stunning ... out of this world ... like Peugeot cars had in the Gilles Vidal era. Now ... we ... all ( the hunger for beautiful, thrilling cars ) ... we hardly wait to see what he will create for Renault. So ... Genesis ... if you want to beat " The Trio " ... find your own Vidal. 😉 Or raise one. 🙂
That's the G70 - built on the same platform as Kia Stinger. If you can't afford / don't want to afford a G70 then check out the Stinger. It even has same super-quiet window glass as G70, same powertrain. Amazing Kia warranty, etc. However, I just put my mother-in-law in a G70 and it's awesome - she's very happy with the car and how well put together the control systems are. It's all quite harmonious compared to the confused array of systems in a late model Mazda (that she moved from)
So this is the car that almost killed Tiger Woods. I wouldn't be caught dead driving a Genesis, because chances are you will be caught dead if you do drive it.

Why not Genesis.... definitely reliable than all 3 big brands...
My 2018 Genesis G80 got more complements than my Audi ever did. Everyone wanted to talk to me about that car.
Obviously because they never seen Genesis
The same with my Genesis G70.

Have a 2 year old G90. This would be a good daily.

Huge, oversized grills are a favourite design feature these days, the engines get smaller in proportion to the grills.

India , Indonesia and Thailand are significant markets , in addition to Australia
Placed my order today

Sold!!! 😍
Nice comparison 👌.
This will be my next car it's just better than its rivals and that includes anything upto a Maserati Quatroportte

Other than the split headlights and tail lights it's thumbs up from me.
Well done Genesis! The big three should look over their shoulders.. there is definitely a shift
Got to test drive this, gotta say it makes G90 irrelevant unless you really want that smooth V8.
That grille can swallow an i10

you're joking..... 4cyl @ 2400kg and 6cyl @ 2600kg... that's Bentley SUV territory
Would definitely choose this over the German brands, I think any smart buyer would
Its still just a Hyundai.
More of a competitor with Lexus rather than with the Germans
Felix...Actually it's not. Lexus doesn't even compete in this class.

15 l or 17 l is similar but depth or width of opening is important too. S550 is about 13 litres and doesn't seem small

A comparison with a Lexus
I like the exterior design and the interior. However, I have mixed feelings about the wheels. Looks very mid 2000's European.
@Ben W What's with the sarcasm? It's more the fact the wheels come with this as factory, you know, the first impression and representation of the car.
Genisis leading the way. Time for germans to say less and do more.

There's still no Genesis in the EU. If it ever happens, it will be some SUV/crossover, not this G80.
There's the GV80, if I recall, basically a lifted G80.
