  • One of the major downfalls of the VW Amarok is the lack of feedback though the steering, especially once lifted.
    To improve this, we fitted SuperPro's full range of polyurethane bushes throughout the truck, along with new "camber adjusting" top arms that didn't work as we intended!

    I found out the quickest / easiest way to get the bushes out is to cut the rudder out with a drill bit and set a hacksaw up inside and cut the Bush race obviously be careful not to cut the arms... Always good informational video as always 🤙

    Nice one Ryan! Loving the longer videos recently - keep it up please, rather listen to you talk for 30-60-90 mins that que up a load of random 10 min content. I've rewatched the bora video many times just because of how interesting it was/your explanations along with the track car breakdowns of the build.

    Yes. Pretty big roll of the dice replacing OEM UCA's with non adjustable, aftermarket units.
    Doesn't seem to much available in the way of LCA's either. Unless it's essential to try achieve clearances, I'd personally prefer to leave the OEM units on. At least then you are dealing with more known variables. And if you do replace only one set of CA's, definitely hunt around for units with as much adjustment as possible.

    So, the expensive HardRace uppers made it worse...
    Well, at least now you know. 😁
    I never realised the Amarok was so utilitarian at the rear.
    It has the refinement of a Model T.
    But, hey; it will haul stuff.
    Guess that's the whole point of it...

    Great video love watching them. Just a point....is the spec for camber not -0°20 +/- 0°30 With a max difference side to side of 0°20
    (Not 0°20 to 0°30)
    I would say you are within spec! (just)
    It would be better more even side to side but as someone else said you will be able to adjust camber on bottom arm too.

    • @DarksideDevelopments
      @DarksideDevelopments  3 года назад

      Spec is something like that but I'd rather the difference be closer. The adjustments were made at the bottom

    Don’t suppose you have a more detailed video of the steering rack bush replacements do you? On the website they are listed as fitment for a Q7 even though they don’t list as a separate part on the Audi EPC so just wondering if they can be replaced as mine failed it’s MOT for these having excessive movement.

    • @DarksideDevelopments
      @DarksideDevelopments  2 года назад +1

      We had a customer with the same issue recently. We found the OE bush removed from the Q7 rack had part number 2H0422405
      The Super pro bushes are identical to this so I can't see any reason why they cannot be used on the Q7.

    Just looking at the rear, with the exhaust so close to the spare tyre, could the heat affect the rubber of the tyre closest to the pipe,
    I know its prob been tested tons of times by vag but i imagine the rubber by the pipe to perish much quicker because of the heat cycles it gets?
    Those bloody inner liners double any job time lol

    Do you have a video of you replacing the steering rack bushes tried to do mine today the steering rack won’t move far enough forward to replace the bushes, rack hits the front axle diff

    • @DarksideDevelopments
      @DarksideDevelopments  2 месяца назад

      It's very tight on the drivers side. One of our mechanics did them recently, he took a bolt out of the rear of the front diff and jacked it up as far as he could. Then had to get a bar in between to give it a little more space to be able to squeeze the bush in. Passenger side he said should be easy enough to get in

    Would really like to understand how caster works, even when googling I just can’t get my head around the benefits of positive/negative caster. Would love if it could be mentioned at some point

    • @Paul_VanGo
      @Paul_VanGo 3 года назад +2

      Positive caster is self-centering the steering going straight.
      Positive caster gives you camber on the outer wheel while turning.

      @@Paul_VanGo I mean I wouldn’t say all explained, but online it didn’t really mention much about how the camber changes when you steer, but just when thinking about how drift cars are set up it makes more sense in my head now

    • @Paul_VanGo
      @Paul_VanGo 3 года назад +3

      @@declanduckworth7978 If you have a bicycle, try looking at that. It has loads of caster.
      Camber, in that case, is your lean in the corner.
      Drift cars are a bit special.
      They are mainly set-up for counter steer.
      They usually have very poor grip at the front, when driven normally.
      But the castor-angles on those cars are ridiculous, hence they steer themselves into opposite lock, when the rear is hanging out.
