I hate how Danny had a great conquering life, stepped up and made her name out of nothing, helped a shitload of people (the entire north is alive because of her) and in the 2 last episodes she got painted as the worst vilain ever. And that's how she is remembered now. This final season was a crime against such an colossal piece of art of story this could've been.

right i hates that too i mean the writers made her character against anything the character stood for but they dragged her into a corner she was like a time bomb that started with one of her dragons geting killed and then another dragon killied, her closes friends geting killed or betraying her when she told him that he should tell her when she did something bad. The thing that actually made her lose her mind and what the bomb let explode was the death of missandy. After that almost all the people that were there for her on her journey got killed and are dead only grey worm and thyrion remaining so she decided to explode and honestly it was satisfying to watch. Even though i dont support her in the decision that she made burning all the innocent people but thats what happened if you drag a powerful person into a corner where the only thing she could think of was bruning them all.

I never really minded that Rhaegal was felled by the scorpion, but the way it happened was really dumb, like, they *knew* that their enemy were in possession of weapons that could inflict damage on dragons and they still just trotted south without a care in the world.
That is mostly the fault of the final seasons being such rush-jobs though. I think it would have been much more interesting if, after a more lengthy campaign both before and after the white walkers, the scorpions would become ever more present. At the Field of Fire 2.0 there was only one, they hit but it didn't kill. So next engagement they bring a few more, say something like 4-8. Daenerys knowing they exist succesfully spot them using Dothraki scouts and have her dragons evade them. At the truce meeting Cersei correctly figures that Daenerys lost a Dragon in the north (another dumb thing that she even brought both her remaining dragons, basically screaming "one of my dragons died, lol" but whatever). Anyway, Cersei figures that while Daenerys is busy in the north they can mass-produce the scorpion, make some sort of maneuver to lure the dragons into position and then kill Rhaegal through sheer overwhelming firepower.
That sequence of events would at least feel deserved because a logical development had been allowed to progress in steps along with the story of their war.

These were actually the right tactics to use. For one - scorpions on ships rocking in the waves should never have been so accurate, except by numbers. If you're on a dragon and you're going to fight that... what do you do? Take cover. Fly right out of the sun, right into the middle of them, moving fast and laterally. Don't give them a chance to aim. This was awesome not because the scorpions were nerfed more than they should've been, but because the tactics were right to fight them. I think the show got this part right.

There was no point in the Golden Company, it was stupid to build them up just to have them defeated in 12 seconds. In season 7 it's like the writers hinted that the Golden Company would turn on Cersei but instead they decided to subvert our expectations. They also planted seeds that Dany would end up pregnant last season it kept being brought up how she couldn't have children they made it seem like she would eventually but that too was to subvert expectations. Also in season 7 it kept being said how untrustworthy euron was only to have him completely devoted to Cersei which is against his nature but again it was to subvert our expectations.

    • @TheWPhilosopher
      @TheWPhilosopher 2 года назад +10

They just went with maximum subversion and just ended up in perversion. Like the Night King and the army of the dead. First scene of the entire show white walkers. Huh subplot all series and then meh one episode should do say D & D. Idiots. Also why should a Stark always been in winterfell? I thought itd be great if basically Winterfell was very of being lost when Bran used the seer with the tree to discover and exit that enables them to fall back to the Reeds. From there they split half in a fighting retreat to the south the other to Dragonstone to get more glass. As the southern army arrives Cersei declares she won't help despite Jamies pleas. You finally see the light go up in his eyes and the light go her die (bs he was so besotted he couldn't see right, when he was already on redeem arc). The Golden company use that as the excuse to switch sides and you see them mfs slice through the dead like they are a birthday cake. Then the WW intervene and the tide turns again despite going toe to toe with incorrect weapons. Half the lannister army joins Jamie but still desperate stuff. The Night King even lands with Viserion into the damaged throne room from THAT fighting in a power move. When all seems lost the other half from dragon stone reappears with a pincer from Dorne on the other side WIth upgraded spear blades of dragon glass. Jon gets to fight the Night King but gets hit but all his lieutenants have been killed or are fighting. He goes to deliver the killing blow and is blocked by a shattering needle. By time he realises what just happened the valerian knife hits his chest and poof. Two to three episodes of carnage and it stretched as far as KL . Yes probably no budget but some ice spiders too. Oh and what does the horn do? Nobody knows. Waste of time.

She completely exploited the weakness of the ballistas during her offensive. She used a preemptive strike with the sun in her back to get into close distance with them, flying through their lines and picking them up one by one. They're slow to maneuver and hitting a target that's close to the ballistas and flying curves is nearly impossible, because greater angle of movement is needed to cover the same target. They weren't nerved, this time Dany just went on the offensive and had a good tactic instead of beeing taken by surprise like during the last encounter.

Drogon put in the most work in GoT and probably will remain the most iconic dragon.

if David and dan had any brains, she would have done that long before loosing Yara, Elaria, and later on, Rhaegal and Missandae. In fact, she would've helped Yara destroy Euron as soon as she had gotten to Westeros, because 1st, she promised, and 2nd, it would get one of the enemies out of the way and it would have secured the Iron islands and Dorne. I swear I wish I could turn bak time to rewrite season 7 and 8, with Dany taking kings landing first and then helping out in the north, and then ruling as the good and mighty queen. They legit made her put off taking the red keep for so long, that Euron and his bastards had time to build hundreds of scorpions (honestly, if she had attacked right away, she would not even need an army. her and her three dragons would have price sly destroyed Cersei's army in a heartbeat, no casualties on her side), not to mention her turning into a villain FOR NO REASON. In fact, Imagine Dany as the queen, Sansa as the warden of the north (I would have made them friends), Elaria, Brienne, Yara and Arya all sitting at one table. Just a bunch of badass women ruling Westeros.

Although this is a terribly written season (I will never forgive what they did to Rhaegal or Dany), it absolutely gave us some stunning scenes. It still makes me nervous watching this part, even thought I know Drogon makes it out okay!
Speaking of Rhaegal, it annoys me how he and Jon clearly bonded together as dragon and dragonrider, but the show yet again ignored this. Jon didn't give a toss about Rhaegal dying despite saving the world together a couple of weeks before. Also wouldn't Rhaegal have stayed near Jon rather than keep to Dany's side?
    Anyway, yes cool scene.

Not that Season 8 isn't a dumpster fire... I gained a little more respect for this scene in rewatching it.
Dany knows the direction her enemies expect for her approach. On a dragon, her first advantage is mobility. She chooses the direction of approach and comes at an angle where they have to completely re-aim. Notice that the first thing they have to do is turn the scorpions. That gives her the advantage of not facing an initial barrage... just a quick shot or two. From there, she can avoid with lateral movements and direct her fire power for suppression.
When she turns her attention to the castle walls, she flies low and fast. It requires the scorpion crews to push their weapons to extremes for the low angle. It takes a moment to re-aim and that gives an initial advantage. As soon as they fire, she goes high. Now, she just has to get to them before they reload... and she does.
After that, the castle is hers... all of the scorpions were aimed outward. Coming from the inside makes them easy prey.

Dragon is a big target, they only take 2-5 seconds to aim and fire and 70+ spears in her direction makes virtually no gap for drogon to squeeze through without getting hit. Attacking the Bay was just stupid at all, there would be no line of sight if she attacked kingslanding first, forcing eurons men to either leave or disembark.

@@francisbalfour1243 drogon may be a big target, but even with a setup like a ballista, those bolts have an insane drop off and on a costal city? Forget about it. The breeze would work against them on even the clearest, still day. Drogon moves at the speed of a small plane, he absolutely zips by, so trying to aim and hit a fast target moving erratically with limited maneuverability on your end would make it a statistical game that's not in your favor, even numerically. The show does little right this season, but establishing, at least now, that the Scorpion ballista has to to be manned by a full team and requires a crank to rotate is more than enough to sell how Dany beats them here.
Rhaegal getting killed the way he did was a fluke, just absolute bullshit for the sake of drama, something game of thrones used to be so much better than

To be fair drogon was the hardest of her dragons to take down remember when bronn was able to hit drogon with a ballistic arrow it barely did anything to him, while for her other dragons it went right though them, also drogon was stabbed several times by wights and still survived, so yeah not alot of things can kill him.
