I actually ran across this band in the streets of Toronto when they were making this video! I didn't know what was happening. I remember thinking that I had no idea Amish music was so awesome :)
😂😂😂Actually, the style of dress they wear is reminiscent of the Southern US around the 1890's and early 1900's. As for 'Amish' music, check out Weird Al's "Amish Paradise". In reality, the Amish only sing church music, worldly music is not allowed. Lucky you to be there when the video was being made. A Canadian band taking all those themes of Southern folk, country and traditional music, and twisting it in such an entertaining way.
I'm not really sure what they wore back then, but I kinda doubt it was black. The summer is fiercely hot and WET, so black would have been outright miserable. In the west it was more common, for some reason. Oddly enough the old people I met dressed heavy during the summer, to avoid sunburn I guess!
@@TheLostBijou They wore that _style_, and there were many different colors unlike what the Amish wear. A style isn't limited to one color, The Dead South chose black as their signature color. This is the first time I have heard and seen a Cellist play his instrument exclusively without a bow. A tip of the hat to Danny Kenyon for making it work so well.
I love that this song has everything it needs, and nothing more :) Also, a cello on a guitar strap. I didn't know it was possible, and I'm a bass player who loves the tone of cello
@@MitWS Electric/acoustic basses and cello are in the same pitch range. So it makes sense. Tuning will be different though, guitar and bass has a 4th interval between strings, where classical strings are tuned to a 5th interval

This is my fav song from this band I'm always singing along with it. I been following them for years. Check their other songs too , totally awesome band.
I'm in awe at the video editing. At first I thought they were performing in front of a green screen, but if you look closely you can spot subtle changes in hair, positioning and lighting from scene to scene. So, that leads me to believe they were performed separately on location and spliced together. If so, that's an amazing job.
I'm amazed that their multiple video takes in different cities were so exactly the same that they could cut from one scene to the next and not have people 'teleport' a bit. They were spot-on the SAME in each video shoot - just exactly as far apart, just exactly the same stance, same position, everything.
I saw the Dead South in concert. These guys are just as awesome, actually even more so, in concert. They enjoy what they do and they are good at it. They were a lot of fun!
In addition to the clever background scene changes and their humorous movements, I like that the lyrics are cryptic, even quixotic in a way. You get fast snapshots of the story, like a movie story board without the filler scenes between the bare bones. It leaves room for your mind to conjure up the full story.
