I just saw them last night @ the midland theater in KC, MO. I'm still smiling. I call them punk bluegrass when asked what type of music they play. What other band has made a cello so cool.
This is my favourite Dead South song in a long list of awesome songs. The part you missed is that at the end, he is contemplating suicide - that old taunting tree is where people hang themselves.
Hey, man. Great reaction and analysis to a great song. You should check out more of their stuff. This song does some really cool things narratively, in that there are things the narrator leaves out (look at the lyrics right after "my son went down," the narrator goes from detailed to vague and indistinct). Also, the intro ends "there's no one to bother me, except" followed by a pause. the song ends "there's no one to bother me, except that old taunting tree," which to me suggests that he hanged himself. Great story telling leaves details out like this that the listener needs to connect dots and color in. It's really, really brilliant. Also, it's not a bass, it's a cello.
They dropped a new music video right around the time you published this. It’s really cool. Based on your analysis of this video I’d love to see how you break down Tiny Wooden Box. Their instrumentation is impressive.
I love all your reactions!! Please One of the most beautiful songs that you can hear from Måneskin is CORALINE LIVE AT SANremo musical festival. Pick the right video which has a good sound quality, the one with English and Italian captions present on the screen. That performance is unique, with Sanremo orchestra! The musical carpet is like a sea which crashes onto the rocks. The meaning of the song is incredible, you should try to focus also on the lyrics the second time you listen to it. It is like listening to Bohemian Rapsody focusing on music and singing and not understanding the meaning. Believe me it will be incredibile for you and for us, as you will notice things that probably we would not pick Please please please do that
My only problem with the person reacting is, that he doesn't know a cello from a stand up base. He has a cello strapped to him. A stand up base is too big and heavy to carry on a shoulder strap. I played a stand up base in orchestra in junior high. And my twin brother played the cello.
The Dead South is really cool, good that you enjoyed

Absolutely one of their best, but they have many many brilliant songs with interesting harmonies & instrumentation.
This is my all time favorite band. You should check out some of their other songs. They are even better live!
Our first post covid concert here in TN literally in a cave. Love these guys so much!!!!
I would love to see you do more of there music, thank you,
Just frigging AWESOME… 🍻🍻🇦🇺🇦🇺
The genre is actually called Murder Folk. It is hauntingly beautiful. Love their entire catalog
Nice analysis (but it's a cello not a bass - used as a bass but still a cello).
Not the kind of music i grew up to but stumbled on this song a few years back and it still haunts me

"CPR man" refers to working on the Canadian Pacific Railway.

It's been a long dark dirty road
And pocket full of gold
I've been out here now
All on my own
It's real quiet here
Just the way I like it here
There's no one to bother me
Except
In 1955, born into Wadena's pride
I laid my head on that
Milligan creek bed
When I was a young man
I helped build this land
Oh, I put down these rails as a
CPR man
Thought I'd live forever
With my heart in my pocket
Oh, my gun by my side
And my feelings in a locket
Well, that was a cold year in '77
But I married my wife
We had two kids
I gave her a daughter
She gave me a son
And we rode those damn horses 'til we had none
Fist still like flyin'
Doing things for dyin'
Oh, I should have put that old gun away
Well I, I am a broken Cowboy
And I don't feel right no more
'Cause I am a broken Cowboy
Livin' life in the fast lane
Racing cars and robbing trains
I thought I had it all
Then one day, I got the call
A father's worst dream
My son went down and I
The colours deceive me
As I see grey
Oh, you're cutting me down with those
Cold words you're saying
Then you called me, brother
But this can't be so, 'cause you
Slander my name, anywhere the wind will blow
Well, I am a broken cowboy
And I don't feel right no more
'Cause I am a broken cowboy
Yes, I am a broken cowboy
It's been a long dark dirty road
But a pocket full of gold
And I've been out here now
All on my own
Well, it's real quiet here
Just the way I like it here
There's no one to bother me
Except that old taunting tree

there isn't anything The Dead South does that isn't great!!
Is that a bass or a cello? Doesn't sound low enough for a bass.
How do you fix a broken cowboy? With some gloooooOOOOO 🐮!
That actually a cello, not a bass.
I was looking for this comment ❤
@@Alonetogether13 Yes, and I think has bass strings

That's not an upright bass it's a cello.
That's a cello not a bass
