    As always, words of wisdom. I’m local to you (Seaford) and I’m also a coffee-holic, and I value your comments. I collected my P* from near Leicester yesterday and everything you’ve mentioned in your videos helped me no end, so a big thank you. No mention in this video of switching off one pedal driving completely, though - which I assume you did on the motorway. 🙌🙌

    As someone who is seriously considering this car, your review and the information you are giving us is the most useful and salient of all reviews.
    Actually applicable information that I can apply to my research on this car.
    Do you recommend that the Pilot and Plus packs are added, or is one better than the other.
    I'm inclined to go with Plus pack more than Pilot.

    A similar experience on Wednesday: driving from Slough to Cardiff (137 miles) set off with 190 miles range on the main display but Google maps showing a charge required en route, 1% battery predicted on arrival. That increased gradually as I drove, until I arrived back in Cardiff with 15% battery left, about 25 miles spare.
    Actually, quite pleased with the range, all things considered.
    Also, good man for dealing in Coffee. Obviously something about coffee merchants and Polestars.

    Bradley, another great, real life, example. And great points about the range and what people should expect. And it’s great you were able to demonstrate that if arrival State of Charge looks a bit dodgy, a quick top up taking the same time as a short shop for a sandwich, ie 10-15 minutes, solves the problem. Also, if people are in a part of the country where there aren’t any chargers, or it’s broken or being used etc, doing the motorway section at 60 mph rather than 70mph makes pretty much the same amount of saving; in your example, you would have made it home, but about 10 minutes later (the same time as the sarny shop). Great stuff. Enjoying them immensely.

      Thanks! Yes I think it's hard for many people to get into the mindset that an EV stops only need to be long enough to get to the next stop. Most people driving traidtional cars tend to fill up and drive until they next fill up but as you said that's not the best way with an EV

    I agree with you. The range tests (WLTP) are designed to be standard, controlled tests, to enable you to reliably compare your cars range against other cars which have completed the same test. It’s completely not a number which owners should expect to achieve themselves.
    So many vehicle owners fail to do their own research and expect these range numbers to be achievable most of the time, despite different driving styles, speed, conditions, temperatures , car settings etc.. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    I got about 38kWh/100 miles on a similar 400 mile round trip in similar temperatures. Didn't have the M25 issue slowing me down but didn't stray above 70 at all. Looks to me like the 20" wheels make a huge difference. Would be good to run two Polestars with different wheels side by side over 100 miles to see what the difference really is. Hi Bradley, we are doing another 120 mile round trip tomorrow and following your advice will precondition the car so that it's toasty warm before we set off. The majority of our trip though, at least 105 miles will be on the motorway.
    It's something I need to get my head around that whereas the Audi Allroad we had before the Polestar was best on long journey motorway driving and gave less mpg around town and country roads. On the motorway at 80mph it was only really ticking over at just over 1000 rpm and gave us the best mpg. The Polestar driving calculator you mentioned gives a much better indication of range on city and country road journeys. I'll let you know how we get on tomorrow as our 120 mile journey to York the other day sucked up 80% of a full 100% charge doing that.

    • @ShortCircuitPS2
      @ShortCircuitPS2  3 года назад +1

      Thanks, yeah electric cars are kind of the opposite to diesel cars. The extra wind and tyre resitance really hits the consumption badly and water on the road makes that even worse. Pre-conditioning does help though and I'm also hoping that Polestar will update the car in the future to allow pre-heating of the battery. The Tesla model 3 can do that and it can help with increasing range.
      Love the drone videos! I have a DJI Mavic 2 Pro. Hoping to use it at some point to film the Polestar.

    • @FootprintPhoto
      @FootprintPhoto 3 года назад

      @@ShortCircuitPS2 As youve probably guessed by looking at what I do I'm a professional drone pilot and photographer/videographer. I fly the mavic 2 pro as well. I started off many years ago with a monstrously big drone but it was unwieldy, cumbersome and only had a 7 min battery life. I then went on to the Inspire 1 and a series of Phantoms but the Mavic is by far the best drone I've ever had. It is small and compact, ideal for treks across the Brecon Beacons for National Grid or walking miles of railway track for Network Rail and brilliant for construction sites too. The batteries last for about 25 mins, it shoots hi-def raw stills and fabulous 4k video. It's a shame you live in the wrong end of the country and not up here in God's county or we could have collaborated and done something together. Im really enjoying your videos too. Nick

    Hi interesting video. Can I just clarify you set the car to only charge to 80% ? I'm not yet an ev owner but I'm guessing its not good to always charge to 100%? One reason I'm holding off is lack of charging stations where I live or on the long route I regularly drive so I would always need to get max range from whatever ev I bought hence keeping it 100% charged ready to go.

  • @wobby1516
    @wobby1516 3 года назад

    You right there has to be a standard that each car can be compared by, it just happens that the standard show a ridiculously high range. If the companies admit this and give a more real world range the, for me that’s OK. As you rightly state all depends on driving style and the weather, but that’s the same with an ice car.
    I drive a Kia Nero EV before that a Kona Electric both cars gave me around 4 miles per KWh but I know one guy who gets 6.5 mile per KWh Hyper miles I suspect. My Kona states a range of 240 miles but in the summer I can get 290 but winter nearer to 220.

    • @mrbambix
      @mrbambix 3 года назад

      Actually the range calculator on the polestar website, as mention in this video is brutally honest really. It will not show you anywhere near wltp ranges. So Polestar is pretty honest with its promised ranges to be fair.

  • @mickiscupinrogers3778

    My experience of the Polestar 2 range has been abysmal. I received delivery of my Polestar 2 in September and it has been in and out of Volvo Service centres ever since, trying to fix the shocking range issue I have experienced. Now that the temperatures have dropped, at best I achieve a quarter of the advertised range, ie I can cover a maximum of 70 miles on a full battery charge. Whilst Polestar initially acknowledged that I had every right to reject the vehicle, they are now claiming that they won’t accept the vehicle back, even though it is clearly faulty. Do not buy this car until Polestar has managed to iron out its initial problems, of which there have been many. It’s a beautiful car, inside and out, but currently it isn’t getting you very far and consuming far too much energy, which is undermining its environmental credentials.

    Great video, but just a question, if you knew the round trip was going to be tight why did you only charge to 80% at the start, surely going to 90% or 100 would have been better. I know everyone is only charging to 80-90% for battery health but I genuinely think "usable charge" on these batteries should be used for 100%. (Companies should reduce a bit to keep the battery healthy without making the customer think they shouldn't completely fill their usable charge amount) (if that makes sense)
