Great review about the Polestar from a real owner and not just a person that is testing it for a few hours or days (just as you mentioned in part 1 I believe). This video tipped the scale towards the Polestar for me vs. a Model 3.

For starters, I really enjoy your video's. They're balanced and honest. Good job! I currently own a latest generation Volvo V60 T5 and it is nice to see so many similarities in the Polestar because the UX of the Volvo is actually very good. Up to the controls on the steering wheel, the door handles, the window and mirror controls are exactly the same. Even the tow bar and buttons for the electric hatch, the latches for the rear seats and the SOS and Connect functions above the rear view mirror are the same. I really felt at home when I test drove the Polestar. And even though my T5 is not particularly underpowered at 260 bhp (Polestar optimized of course), the Polestar at 408 bhp is nothing short of spectacular. A pity though with Polestar having borrowed so much of Volvo's technology it is a bit disappointing that they didn't just copy Volvo's app too. Because that app actually DOES have a car location function and other goodies. Especially since (Polestar being the innovative brand they like us to believe) I simply expected them to have a perfect app and not the afterthought that it appears to be now. In any case I am very much looking forward to my Polestar (the 300kW version) which I ordered last week. Looking forward to your next video too!

Great to have another video of yours to watch. I always appreciate your balanced and detailed approach, based on extended use of a car that you know very well. As you mention in your video, this is a welcome change from all those reviews provided by people who spend a few hours, or perhaps a couple of days, with the car. Looking forward to you next instalment!

Great review, as always! I really like your movies, thanks.
My own experiences with the Polestar 2 are very similar: On the minus: A few issues with connectivity. On the plus: It‘s just a great car, with a superb support. They even implemented a few of my suggestions, e.g. Eco mode for climate control and the charging timer.

Your right, not enough honest reviews from long term owners, so thanks for that. Not sure what the buying process is like in the UK, but here in Australia, it is a little difficult to get eyes on one and arrange a test drive as they only have "pop up" sites in the major cities, so reviews like this definitely help. I am currently awaiting delivery of the Long Range Single Motor. The fact that you are a coffee roaster also adds a lot of cred. for me)😊

Really appreciate these videos - great real world information for prospective owners. Do you have any views on how well the adaptive cruise control and lane keeping technology has performed?
I've given up with Autopilot on my Tesla because of the phantom braking I keep experiencing with it - I'm either very unlucky or no one seems to really mention it in reviews. With my lease close to ending, I'm curious to hear how the Polestar's system has performed.

After 35K km driving the PS2 it still give me a smile on my face. From NL I have no charging issues. (homecharging 11kW, same at work with the option to do a 120 kW fastcharger thanks to TotalEnergies) and knowing that the charging network in the EU is far better than in the UK. What to improve? Apple Carplay. Come one Polestar, how difficult is that? And I fully agree with Manfred Suttorp. The Volvo app worked - in my personal experience from 4 years ago - much better than the current PS app.

Great video as always! Balanced and well thought out. I have had no problems at all at 10k miles except the digital key. Had worked for months, went out for a dog walk, all good. Came back to no key connection! Nothing had changed whatsoever! ( luckily I had proper key in Faraday pouch with me). Not worked since. Would have been a disaster if I hadn’t got standby key with me. Apart from that I love the car. Get similar range to you. Don’t find the range a real world problem either. I got the performance upgrade which is fun so long as you are at a high ish Soc.

Ordered my Long Range single motor with 20” wheels cause they said it was in stock and delivery in 2 weeks. It’s now 3&1/2+ and the haven’t even shipped my car from Sydney to Brisbane to get ready for hand over.
Not even the invoice for my bank! I’m starting to get very nervous about buying this car now as their service in Australia has been appalling.

Got mine in march last year and done 22000 miles and was great. over the last 4000 miles there has been a clicking noise when slowing down and i asked if it could be looked at when it went in for a service. Also since getting the car the steering wheel has never been straight. So far since it has been into Volvo 4 times since and on the last visit it has been in nearly 2 months now and still not sorted nor is the steering wheel straight. Hopefully it will be sorted but it is costing a lot of money for me with the car sat at the garage.
Do not like the Polestar/Volvo communication and this has put me off Polestar.
It seems Volvo are not equipped to support Polestar yet and it seems a hindrance for them to have any Polestar Vehicles at there garages.

  • @twotone3871

Yes, a very good analysis of ownership of an EV. Just one thing. Beware of comparisons with a Tesla Model 3. A dual motor only uses the front motor when a rear wheel loses grip and spins. Especially since the latest SW update when it got stability control. In benign weather conditions as in the UK, the front wheels will very seldom be driven. So a farer comparison of the Model 3 would be to a Polestar 2 RWD. The Polestar 2 AWD Performance would be more comparable to an Audi RS4!

Really good video. The app is still such a let down I had hoped that after 15k this functionality would be unto 2022 standard. Agree the scheduled departure and charge time start is basic essential. Would love to know if you had any issues using public chargers eg waiting, not working , ie range anxiety as more people buy EV.

    Great review! Not too technical!
About the TPMS. Are you saying that you did recalibrate several times in the status display but the notification for your repaired tyre keeps coming back? Strange since the system only uses the ABS sensors to calculate the revs?
Also your video is new. And you talk about missing schedule charging in the app? Do you still don't have that feature? Feels like that was release before the Vivaldi browser but I can't remember since I never need to use it.
All the best from Sweden!! // 😎👍

    • @ShortCircuitPS2
      @ShortCircuitPS2  2 года назад +1

Thanks, the TPMS issue I had was weird. It just wouldn't update for months so Polestar said I'd need to take it in for a full reset of that system. However, it eventually resolved itself which was a bit strange. You are correct about the charging schedule, I actually filmed this a few months ago, just hadn't got round to editing and uploading! Thanks for watching.

I just placed an order for the '23 Model year Polestar 2...and I would like to see if you could issue a follow up video on the different packs they have (if you have a couple of them), brake consumption, brake consistency, tire wear over 15k miles, pilot assist and impact on battery usage. I think you've downplayed fast charging quite a bit - it does really push people into the Tesla camp versus anyone else because of the advantages they offer on their network to their subscribers - especially in the US.

    1. how quickly does the battery degrade? my friend has a 2013 tesla model s and he says that his battery degrades about 2-3% a year, how does the polestar compare
    2. how does it do in really cold conditions. where i live the winter is always -30 C and gets down to -40 C for weeks at a time. how does the battery hold up in conditions like that

That's what happens when you use a temporary repair kit on a tire, it destroys the TPM. That's why you only use a repair kit if you pick up a nail on a deserted road in transylvania in the middle of the night during a zombie apocalypse. Any other time, just get a tow to the nearest tireshop and have the tire properly repaired which won't harm the TPM.

Personally I'd say the build quality is a lot better. No panel gaps and there is a very solid feel to the car. However it's also heavier thean the Tesla. I compared road noise in a previous video and the Polestar was quieter than the Tesla model 3 I borrowed at the time. The difference might be less now as I believe Tesla have improved some of their noise isolation.
