    Thanks for the video. I had to replace my draft inducer fan on the same Heil DC90 and the video really helped. A couple of comments, Amazon had an aftermarket fan for ~$135 and prime 2 day delivery and it is a great kit. Also, if you don't want to bother with refitting the wires into the plug, you can just splice and wire nut the black and white wires to the prior ones.

    Well wouldn't ya know, started my furnace up today after a few days of warm and heard this god awful racket. Thought at first it was a neighbour doing some carpentry but then I was like whos gonna be doing that at 1030 in the morning on Easter Sunday... low and behold my furnace's inducer motor's bearing is on its way out. Thanks to this video I now know how to replace it - though I am gonna gamble on it lasting a few more weeks as I had been planning on replacing the whole thing this summer, though a big THANKS for sharing your experience!

      Well guess what? It didn't make it until the new one came in. Ordered one off Amazon for 188.00 arrived on Tuesday. Fan died on Saturday night. Once I removed the old one I found the seals worn out. Reason for the water leak. Second thing was you can use the old plastic push pins if you break one. I used a shop vacuum to make sure the drain line was clear and draining right. The fan is set up to disperse the condensation down the drain line. My furnace is installed in 2000 heil dc90. So the connections were easy because the wire connections matched up with the ones on the fan. The rubber exhaust gasket was the same. Your video made it clear to install. One thing missing is the drain line. I suggest people inspect it. My fan had a few pieces broken off. So I wanted to make sure no pieces fell in the drain line. Thanks for your video...

      Michael Oliver hi I replaced mine in January. Just opened up the furnace door to check it out and I noticed condensation coming from underneath the rubber gasket that is attached to the blower motor. I never noticed this before not that I even checked. Not even on the old one. I tightened up the clamps but still does it. The water runs down to right where the ground wire is attached and also behind that same area. I notice it ends up on the bottom of the furnace right below the blower housing. I don’t see any drain line. I’m not sure if this is normal it’s been running fine since January.

    Can you describe the sound it was making before it died? Mine makes a fairly high pitched almost rattle noise. It also gets fairly hot.

    • @OutsidewithTom
      @OutsidewithTom  5 лет назад +1

      Hi thereve! Before it died, it was just running very loudly, with a high pitched almost whistling/whining noise that could be heard through the whole house. The night that it died I didn't hear it, but my wife told me she heard a loud noise during the night but she thought is was a noisy truck driving by. If you have a rattle, the bearing is probably shot and what you're hearing is pieces of the bearing rattling around as it's running. I think the housing getting hot is normal, as the housing on my new motor gets hot as well. So much more quiet now when running though. FYI, I'm not a HVAC pro, just a guy who likes to do my own home repairs when I can. Hope that helps.

    Hi Tom, I just replaced my draft inducer blower motor and your video was very helpful. I found the instructions that came with it to be pretty good, but it was nice to see it done.
    It seemed to go smoothly, and the blower is nice and quiet, but, I think I can feel air coming from behind the blower. My guess is that it is from the connection to the furnace, where I replaced the o ring, and that needs to be stopped.
    Do you feel any air blowing to the left of the blower when it is running? Any suggestions from one DYI'er to another?

    • @OutsidewithTom
      @OutsidewithTom  5 лет назад

      Hi there DM, glad you found the video helpful. I just checked mine, and I don't have any airflow coming from behind the blower motor like you describe. If I did, I suppose I would pull it back off and check the o-ring connection point and the two foam washers that are back there, and make sure the connections are as clean as they can be. If that didn't work then I would probably start looking at the piece that the blower motor connects to. Good luck!

    Must be a christmas time failure thing. Mine started squealing yesterday. My father is a master electrician and we've done some facetime stuff. It looks to be a bearing issue inside the motor and not the entire unit. This seems to hold with what others are saying about spraying in grease to reduce the noise. I'm going to attempt to disassemble the motor itself and replace the bearings to see if that fixes the issue. Could reduce the fix to a few dollars.

    • @travispick5160
      @travispick5160 2 года назад +1

      First step confirmed, the noise went away after spraying white grease into the front and back bearings.

    • @OutsidewithTom
      @OutsidewithTom  2 года назад +1

      Might buy you a couple more months. Of course, if you replace the motor now then you can do it at a time when it's convenient, rather than having the motor go out at a very inconvenient time and then all of a sudden you have no heat and it's an emergency. That was my mistake. Good luck!

    Thank you for this video. This is the same furnace that I have. I’ve been able to use a 3to1 oil through the inducer motor fin cage to get to the motor shaft and lubricate the shaft. The high pitched squeaking stopped. It’s been running great since. I’ve had to add more oil since then but it continues to run quieter for now. I’m sure I will have to replace it and your video helps. 👍
    Does your blower motor run continuously like mine? I have researched the information on the blower motors and limit switches on blower motors but I cannot find a blower limit switch on this furnace so I just allow the blower motor to continue to run even with the air conditioning unit off cycle and the furnace off cycle in the winter. Do you have the same problem? Thank you again.

      Glad you found the video useful. My blower does not run all the time, only when the heat or a/c kicks on. There should be a setting on your thermostat to set the blower to "Auto". That way it will only come on when the heat or a/c kicks on.

      Thanks for the reply Tom.
      I have done exactly as you suggested with my thermostat by setting it to auto but the blower motor still continuously ran. I even changed the blower motor about two years ago because it stopped working (was old). It still ran continuously. Recently I changed the thermostat and it still runs continuously even when I set it to auto fan. ???? Strange, I know ? I just thought that you having the same HEIL DC90 ultra high efficiency furnace (exactly) might have the same situation with your blower motor ?? The air conditioning is working otherwise and the only issue is the power usage of having the motor run continuously. It does help with circulation of air in my home lol.
