    Thanks so much for this video! My problem I've had for a few years now (intermittent failure) was apparently just the clogged port. You just saved me hundreds.

    For those of you asking where to lubricate, right at 1:39 to 1:40 right where he puts his pointer finger is where the shaft is accessible. No you aren't lubricating the bearings but you can lubricate that shaft with some silicone lubricant to reduce noise.

    Thanks for the video. I wasn't getting any draft at all. So before I changed the pressure switch I cleaned the port and it was clogged pretty good.

    Wow....... This is great! I have had the vacuum port problem many times before & it was always a quick fix. In the past I used an Allen wrench to clear it. WELL NOT TODAY! I had to use the tool specifically called out in this video! A PEICE OF AWG 14 COPPER SOLLID GROUND WIRE! I don’t think that there is any better tool for this task. WHY?
    Well let me tell you. 1. There is not adequate room for a long stiff drill bit or steel wire, space is limited. 2. You will need to crank the wire on a truly plugged port, copper wire is easy to bend in to a crank. 3. The depth of the blockage can be more than you would think, I had to go in 1” to clear it. I used a long piece of wire & ultimately found that a straight shot is the key to clearing the blockage. IT IS GOING TO BE BLOCKED ON THE INSIDE AT THE very END OF THE PORT, since there is virtually “0” flow. This is a sense port only. 4. The wire can drill, same as a drill bit. Just cut the tip jagged.
    Cut long, make strait, cut jagged, shove on more than 1”! & your there.
    Save our money for when you need an expert. “This RUclipsr”
    When called on they are worth there weight in gold, but not for this.

    Great video. You mentioned that when pressure switch ports are on the top, they're more likely to be clogged - I would have thought the opposite, as debris tends to fall down. Any reasoning for that? Thanks

    I always check the the little pin hole on the pressure switch nipple. Keeping that opens cuts the number of bad pressure switches down. It helps keep the moisture out of the switch?

    Just installed a new inducer fan and it seems to be like the old one ...running too slow to perform suction. I have used red high temp silicone gasket maker. Is it possible I should have gotten a gasket instead? My unit is a Lennox outdoor furnace/air unit 12GCS048.

  • @dpeagles

    What instrument do you use to measure the draft? I would assume it needs to read very small amounts of pressure or vacuum.

    • @Askexpertexpress
      @Askexpertexpress  8 лет назад +1

      +dpeagles a manometer the -wc will differ from unit to unit check the pressure switch requirements it should be at least 30% more than what is required

    Would 1.6 wc on a .85 switch be good negative pressure on a Fasco B2833001 exhaust fan? It’s a 2” pvc vent to side of house.

    What about if the inducer pressure is too low? Can you give some insight on why inducer would have low pull? Say .6 iwc with door off and exhaust disconnected brand new inducer 80% co reading shows hx ok..

    Good morning. I was told my inducer is going bad. Tech says in one month furnace will stop working. He ran a test like you did. He says motor is operating at 1.78% and climbing, and once the numbers get to 1.9, furnace will shut dwn. Ideal numbers are 1.4 or slightly higher. Company wants over $1200 to replace motor. I looked at the part, and i can replace it myself, which i will do. I'm a handy grl. My question is, is he correct, inducer is going to die?

    • @mikelewis4260
      @mikelewis4260 3 года назад +1

      No he's not. How can anyone predict when something is going to fail. He was just looking to up his service revenue for the company. A good technician would in form the client with the recommendation of possible replacement of the part in the future. Not tell you it's only going to last a month.

    • @apritchard171

      You can actually lubricate sealed bearings. Remove the draft inducer motor, and drip in some 3 in 1 oil from the outside of both bearings. Doing this greatly reduced the noise on my draft inducer motor.

    DO THE INDUCERS ALWAYS SPIN COUNTER CLOCKWISE? BOUGHT PARTS OFF AMAZON SAVE BIG MONEY. SO FAR SEEM TO BE FINE? METAL CAGE I REPLACED THINK WAS SAME DIRECTION. RUNS GOOD? ANY WORRIES? THINK ITS 86 BRANT MODEL. IF IT WAS BACKWARDS THE UNIT SHOULD NOT WORK AND FAIL TO OPERATE RIGHT? MONOXIDE DETECTORS SEEM FINE IN HOME

      +Brigham Young if the draft inducer was running backwards you would have improper drafting it would not be moving as much CFM is required this would be evidenced by the flames coming out of the heat exchanger to a certain extent

    you do not address an inducer motor that runs constantly- I can only get mine to s/o with a short cycle. If i demand heat until blower engages then I kill the stat..I will get 2 blower cycles and inducer stops. if I do not perform this task inducer runs 24/7

    thats a Goodman... l have same unit... my inducer wont even turn on. Dont know what to do to fix it

    • @Askexpertexpress
      @Askexpertexpress  7 лет назад +1

      +Cue Rock if the inducer will not turn on check to see if power is being supplied to the inducer. If power is being supplied to the inducer you probably have a bad inducer motor

    • @uncommoncents992
      @uncommoncents992 7 лет назад

      Well it has power (122v) sometimes going to it and sometimes coming from it.... I dont understand whats wrong with mine. Ive ruled out the thermostat and wiring to it. I can jump thermostat and nothing works, i jump board and it works... on its own it wont work either in heat or fan only mode. Im lost... this is sooo odd. Ive tried 2 different pressure switches and 2 thermostats, same resluts

    • @Askexpertexpress
      @Askexpertexpress  7 лет назад

      Cue Rock if you have 120 volts the next step is to Ohm the draft inducer motor if you have higher than 1 ohm you have an electrical failure of the draft inducer draft inducer if you have a hundred and twenty and ohms or low you could have a seize the bearing or something is seize the bearing or something is seized up bearing or something is locking up the squirrel cage

    • @uncommoncents992
      @uncommoncents992 7 лет назад

      Bearings are good. It spins silently. Unit is only 7 years old. I will check the ohms of the inducer. I am getting "pressure switch staying open" error code... but I doubt 2 pressure switches are both bad. One is brand new. I have no leak, or condensation near the unit. No rust, nothing is even dirty on my unit. Lol. It still looks brand new.

    • @uncommoncents992
      @uncommoncents992 7 лет назад

      And just too add in.... My unit starting just running the inducer and shutting off a few weeks ago without getting paast the pressure switch stage.... thats why I bought a new pressure switch... it worked fine for 2 weeks... now I got nothing, Cant even get the inducer to start.
