Inducer Motor Gurgling Sound | 90 Percent Lennox Furnace Inducer Motor Flooding due to Blockage

- Sometimes incorrect installation practices when installing 90 percent furnace can lead to slow or no condensate draining from the unit, meaning that if the condensate cannot drain properly, it may back up into the inducer.
I believe this issue was just due to blockage in the line and an improper prime at the trap. Please share your input below and let us know what you think.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I had the same exact problem, which is now fixed after following your instructions. Leaving a detailed comment, maybe someone can benefit from this. I've a similar Lennox furnace and it had been making this gurgling sound, which didn't bother me much. But over the past few days, my heat was cutting out intermittently. Thanks to some other videos on youtube, especially Jay @ World of Advice TV channel, i started looking for the cause and fix. Furnace was igniting, could see the flames but it will go out after 1 minute or so and occasionally worked fine for a day or two. Cleaned flame sensor, it didn't help. But I then noticed that my control board light flashed 3 times before the furnace tried to restart again. According to the instructions on the panel, there's supposed to be an issue with pressure switch. Tested pressure switch using multimeter and it was fine. Checked for blockage on little pipes going to pressure switch, they were fine too. Finally, came across your video, took apart the inducer motor, there was water in it, took off all little tubes/pipes as shown in the video and the tube going to header box was clogged at the header box, cleaned the tube and the connection point, put everything together. No more noise from inducer and the heat is back on.

A trip to Walmart and 1/4 set, and 30mins later saved me here in Oklahoma when it went -20 last week and condensation pipes froze, backing water and ice into blower, did what you did exactly and saved me a couple hundred and "2 weeks" booked HVAC companies over charging!! Hey piling on here... thanks! Great help. I wanted to share what I think was clogging my drains -- PVC pipe burrs. I pulled out the inducer blower, and then when I pulled the condensate tubes from the lower ports, I found a small pile of PVC burrs and bugs collected at the green filter plugs. I cleaned those out, checked the main condensate piping to be clear, and put it all back together. Runs great, no water knocking/noise any more. Thanks again!

You are the man! Had an exhaust pipe hanger break. When fixing, a lot of liquid backtracked into the blower. You saved us from not having heat on a night with record low temps. Also, great call on removing the pressure switch over the electrical box.

Excellent ! This was my exact problem on my Lennox EL296 and I was able to follow your video to source the fix the problem. The culprit was a blocked drain tube 6 feet away from the furnace and the water backed up all the y way into the induction motor causing that gurgling sound, Checked and cleaned all the other components so all should be good. Started the furnace up, no more gurgling sound and no more error codes. Thanks man !

Just got home from Christmas vacation too a cold house and a furnace sounding like my bath. I cut off the p trap thinking it was clogged. Watched this video and learned what an inducer is and how he removed it. My unit was different so I just opened the clamps and put a tiny hose into the motor and put the other end to a shopvac. Saved me having to remove the inducer. Yuck but worked well. Thank Tou!
Nice! Glad I could help, yeah most the Goodman furnace have a little yellow cap you can pull off the bottom inducer and vacuum it out from there.

I discovered that the number 1 reason why this happens is because (hard to believe that almost everyone underlooks) the furnace is sloping the wrong direction. In other words its draining the wrong direction causing condensate to accumulate and overwhelms the gasket.
Its much easier for a installation tech to level it and let it burn or leak and burn the inlet motor. But check the direction of flow of drain. It should be going away from not into furnace
Furnace owners check level of furnace check what direction slope!

I had same problem as Arsh had: heat was cutting out intermittently, but there was no signal show this AMV9 two-stage variable speed has problem according to the troubleshooting manual. I asked service company to fix it. unlucky, first person came ,make wrong diagnostic and said must replace motor then can check if there is other issues. after replaced new motor & frame sensor 30min same things happened as before , we call again and second service came : found blockage in inducer motor coupler cleared blockage .drained inducer motor and reassembled , now is fine. but there manager refuse to give use refund , insist they did right things. I hope more people can see you TV channel even want service company come.

It looks like I had a similar issue.
The AC and Furnace plumbing is together in the left side of mine.
Seems to be that in the summer, the water filled up and overflowed into the furnace.
I have this Lennox SLP98V furnace in the Chicago area. HVAC installed it in 2013 with the I Comfort thermostat. Many parts have been replaced over the years when the furnace stopped working; blowing debris out of condensate tubes, replacing the defective Pressure Switch, the new Blower Motor Module, the new leaking Collector Box, and the new cracked Draft Inducer Motor to try stopping all the water leaks inside the furnace. Now how do I get rid of all the rust inside the cabinet of the furnace?

Hey buddy, I want to thank you - you saved my ass! Have a new install and the blower motor was full of water, which meant it would not run, condensation didn’t drain. So I saw how you removed blower and cleaned out the lines. In my case I just dumped out the water in the blower and then put it back. Plus cleaned out lines, not sure what was problem? Maybe pvc crumbs from install. But if it happens again I can fix it again. It’s Christmas Eve and it’s minus 2 degrees here, so my Hvac guys are not reachable, without your video I would have been totally fxxked. Thanks again!! Btw good call on just moving the pressure switch rather than the electrical box!
Make sure the furnace is at least level, front to back. For best results after leveling, the back should be raised a half an inch. Also, the pvc extension, or vent, on the condensate trap should be at least 1" above where the condensate exists the cold end header box but not more that 2" above that.
Sweet! Yeah it's a pretty common issue I was just working on one the other day and a bird or something must have built a nest and the flue pipe and there was a bunch of red clay and debris clogging up the drain ports. Make sure to inspect your flue pipe otherwise it will continue to happen if there's something in there. I appreciate you sharing and thanks for watching!
Nice! Really appreciate this advice. Sometimes these 90% lennox furnace can be a bit finicky so I'm always trying to get as much information on them as possible.

What prevents exhaust air /gas from going into the "drain" line out of the inducer blower. My vertical 2" PVC out the roof filled up the inducer motor with rain water and shut the furnace down. I vac'd out the rain water from the inducer. I put a 90 elbow on top of the 2" flue pipe above the roof line.
There's a water trap directly in line between the inducer drain line in the drain line going out of the house so the water trap prevents the gases from flowing out

I believe for up-flow position one of The drain hose need connect to the collector bottom hole.
Is that lower drain port on the inducer housing open. I did not see any drain tubes attached???
Hey, thanks for sharing this!! I have the same model - the inducer makes noise but when I barely hold it in my finger it stops making the noise, tried to tighten up the screws with no luck. The pipes aren’t clogged/clear tubes. Do you recommend any solution?
It might be the internal bearings which I'm not sure are serviceable but that's the case you probably just have to replace the whole inducer assembly

Sometimes those black traps plug right up on those lennox traps. And you have to cut from the white 90 off collector box. Iva had to replace the trap sometimes

Hi there, sorry there's really not much you can do about the rust. If it's not that bad you might be able to put some of that evapo-rust on it. You can find it at your local auto parts or Home Improvement shops
Mine started making a similar gurgling sound just. The condensation line drains into the sewer but some took the hose out of the sewer and left it on the ground. I'm wondering if some water got backed up into the inducer because of that? The hose is not plugged there is water on the ground. Since putting hose back in the drain the noise has become less and less. My question is if there was water in the inducer can it work it's way out on it's own? or should I take it apart like you did and see if anything empties out?
Sounds like the trap might not be primed. Try adding water to the condensate trap and see if that helps.
Morris jenkins recommended to change drain line in attic and as per them I asked them to replace but now my gurgling sound from refrigerant is so noisy . There are no issues to heat . Any input will help me. I feel morris jenkins is cheating me
Refrigerator lines making noise or the drain line they replaced is making noise. If it's the drain then probably they didn't put a cap on the clean out and if it's refrigerant lines making noise then you could be low on refrigerant and its boiling before reaching evaporator coil.

I have a carrier furnace with inducer with an AO Smith motor. The inducer makes a whining noise for about 2-3 seconds when the furnace starts up and after that there are no abnormal sounds coming from it. Any thoughts on my problem. Thanks very well done video.
Sounds like it could be the bearings or something. How old is the motor?
@@HVACTechKnowledgy the unit is 15 yrs old. My confusion is that it whines for about 10-15 seconds and then sounds nornal. Kinda like a fan belt squeek whenever you start a car. thanks for your input.
I saw that my Lennox inducer motor (93W13) have the wheel fan shattered (transparent plastic) and make a loud vibration. The motor is on point, but will be a shame to replace the whole assembly just for that simple plastic part. Is there a way to replace the wheel fan only?
No sorry as far as I'm aware they only sell the entire assembly with motor and impeller
I have a 5 month old Lennox SLP99 which from day one has made an unusual random rapid metalic ticking noise during inducer fan startup. I suspect condensate hitting fan blades and plastic housing. Lennox will not talk directly to me, only via their distributors (customer service?), and my installer, after telling me the noise was "normal", just fixed his incorrect mounting (was pitched back, not "level to 1/2" front down".) While that helped, the noise is still obvious.
So indeed, is this noise normal? It is so obvious, I can't believe Lennox would market a furnace.
Hey there I wouldn't imagine the inducer fan blades making a metallic ticking noise as every plastic on 90% furnace. I'd have to hear the noise to get an idea of where it's coming from. I personally don't recall hearing anything like that on this model furnace. If you'd like to record a video of the sound and send it to my email I can check it out and let you know what i think.

So we have an issue with a recently installed trane unit that sucks water from one of the drains and as such causes the motor to gurgle the way it did here. Any thoughts my guy?
I'd start by checking to see if there's enough pitch on the flu pipe, pitching down toward the furnace. Then make sure the Trap is primed and the condensate lines and trap are both free and clear of blockages. Also make sure the unit is level.
I don't understand why they don't just put a drain hole in the bottom of the blower housing so this never happens.
Very good question, not sure I believe some manufacturers used to have that but they stopped doing it pretty sure there was a method to the Madness though.

@@sharonharding7215 my collector box has leak rusted streaks as well. I have some rust the sheet metal right below the collector box and inducer motor. I wired brush most of it. As I was doing it I had a vacuum to suck in all the debris.
