    I've been wanting a review channel that focuses on headphones for gaming for a long time. Most reviewers mention gaming in passing and they're usually referring to fps games. Absolutely loving the channel and how it's presented.

      It's been a long time since I heard the 7XX. I honestly was not a huge fan. It had a super cheap build and no bass to speak of at all. I have been waiting for this review for some time, and I have to say that I was a little disappointed with the graphics of this phone. After seeing several of your reviews, I am tempted to pick up the DT880 600ohms, because from what I understand, this is where I will find the best detail for the price of 200. Do you believe that with the APO equalizer it would be possible to have the DT880 600ohms with a low volume similar to Tygr?
    Very grateful for another great review friend!

    • @gamingaudioguide9292
      @gamingaudioguide9292  3 года назад +1

      first, thank you for the kind words and taking the time to share your thoughts.
      the 990 will disappoint anyone looking for great sub bass extension or who is treble sensitive around 9k.
      The 880 600 ohm is a great headphone, I enjoy it. You could use Equalizer APO to boost the bass a bit and pull down the first part of the mid range a bit as well to replicate the bass bump of the Tygr 300R. You can save different EQ profiles as well. One for gaming and one for critical listening. It's a great tool once you learn your way around it.

    Hey sir! I've been enjoying your videos a lot recently, and was hoping for some advice from someone who's tried a bunch of audio hardware:
    I picked up a Soundblaster AE-9 (comes with it's own external AMP that connects via RCA + a mini HDMI control module for certain settings), and paired it with some nice HD 800 S headphones after the DT 1990 Pros clamped way too hard. The HD800S however gives me a weird sensation in my left ear, almost as if there's a deafening, or as if a ghost is touching my eardrum. Hard to explain. I only experience it with these headphones, and get relief when I take them off.
    Have you experienced anything like this?
    Could it be the AMP? In my setup, would you recommend a different amp with this headphone?

    • @gamingaudioguide9292
      @gamingaudioguide9292  3 года назад

      First, thank you for the kind words and support.
      The AE-9 is not something I have tested, so I am limited to measurements I can find online and manufacturer specs. At first blush, it appears to be a good amplifier with low output impedance and no glaring flaws.
      Have you tried the HD800S with any other amplifiers at all? Even motherboard audio?
      This sounds like either you have a sensitivity to something in the FR of the HD800S that you can likely EQ out (I can try to help) or it is clamping behind and below your ear too tightly.

    • @digitalzomb
      @digitalzomb 3 года назад

      @@gamingaudioguide9292 I haven't tried a different amp, but I have an Asgard 3 on the way to rule it out. Don't have a way to convert the 800s connection down to fit mb or card directly at the moment or I'd give that a go.
      They're really comfortable so I can't imagine a clamping issue causing internal discomfort like that.
      Any idea what frequency could be causing this?

    • @gamingaudioguide9292
      @gamingaudioguide9292  3 года назад

      @@digitalzomb Do you have someting like Equalizer APO? the HD800S has two peaks - the most likely culprit is around 7.5k. Knock that down 6db with a Q factor of 2 and see if it changes the sensation. If not, try the same around 4.5k. Peak filters obviously.

    hi, I'm a bit confused between the dt 770 80 ohms and dt 990 250 ohm. My purpose is Mainly for listening to electronic music/ pop, RnB, hip-hop etc and I'm also an fps gamer but my main reason for wanting to buy this headphone is for a better listening experience with some gaming on the side. Do you think for my specific purpose, the dt770 80 ohm is better ( I've heard that this one offers one of the best bass in the series and I do kinda like a good amount of bass) or is the 990 better because of that sound stage experience?

What do you think? Do you have any other recommendations?

    • @gamingaudioguide9292

      The e10 seems to be a nice little starter unit. A stack from JDS Labs or Schiit would be a nice upgrade with a lot more power at your fingertips.

      The peak that bothers most people in the 990 is around 8/9k. Its an enormous peak. Pad break in brings the driver closer to your ear and typically calms some treble reflection. Many people need to tame that peak with a 6-9db reduction. Pad break in won't calm it that much. The peak will only change by 2-3db. That may indeed be enough for your ears, just keep in mind, that is not a blanket solution for all.

      @@gamingaudioguide9292 thanks! I currently have the Schiit Fulla 3. Been looking around on reddit and such, and people have been saying the Fulla 3 wouldn't make the DT990's as clear sounding as, let's say, a Schiit Stack or JDS Atom amp/dac. Worries me and makes me think I need to get one of those.

      @@UrAJok3r I think those comments are unsubstantiated. The Fulla is listed at putting out more than 40mw into 250 ohms. The 990 Pro 250 ohm gets to 96db at 1mw. If their listed specs are accurate, there should be more than enough power on tap.

    Do you need an amplifier for pc. For the 250ohms do you you need an amp or not. what about the 80ohm ?

      yes, you want an amplifier for the 250ohm version. Some motherboards come with decent headphone amps in them now.
