The video is from 2005 (the album from 2004) and RUclips was just a couple of months old, that's why it was uploaded in 2007 ;) This is the album that put Within Temptation on the map. I clearly remember when this song (as well as Stand My Ground and Memories) were heavily played on the radio and their music videos were showed on TV, at least in Spain. Something that, unfortunately, would never happen nowadays; both due to the fact that MTV like channels don't exist anymore and that metal is not mainstream anymore.

I think it depends on where you live. In the Netherlands, it was Ice Queen, that gave them their breakthrough.

I knew about Within Temptation when my son was a baby. He is twenty now.
I really loved very much this band. All their songs are great, some of them are beautifully soft, others so powerful; many of them treat social issues.
    Some suggestions:
    What have you done?
    Frozen
    Faster
    Memories
    Ice queen
    Mother Earth
    Our farewell
    etc.
    etc.
    etc.

Sharon den Adel is an amazing singer, and Within Temptation is a really good band. If you like Angels, test Mother Earth for example, the lyrics are so beautiful... Thanks for your reaction, Tom !

They are a Dutch symphonic metal band that started the same time as Nightwish 1996. They are considered one of the pioneers of female fronted symphonic metal bands. The lead vocalist is Sharon den Adel who founded the band together with her partner Robert Westerholt. She applied, and was admitted, to the conservatory for opera training but did not like it so she changed over to the arts-academy within her first semester. So apart from that short stay she is complete self-tough. There she studied clothing design and management and completed it successfully. She has mainly used these skills in designing outfits used on stage. They have had a rather successful run in clubs for couple of years where their performances were constantly sold out. Because of that they got invited to the biggest festival in the Netherlands "Pink Pop". Even though they had a very early start the concert was a huge success. They released their single "Ice Queen"shortly after expecting it to be very successful but it did not do much until somewhere in December that year a dj played it on the radio. Suddenly the song shot up in the charts and even took the number 1 spot. Now other countries started to pay attention.
The next song to take a look i would recommend "The promise" from their Black Symphony concert where they were supported by a full symphonic orchestra and choir. ruclips.net/video/39k1IQoeLAU/видео.html

    • @jessicakoster2543
      @jessicakoster2543 3 года назад +1

      The DJ was Henk Westbroek.
Also, it's maybe good to mention that when they started, they were a metal band with growls as well as Sharon's voice. For their second album, they dropped the really heavy guitars and the growls.
For me personally, I loved the first album, Enter. After that, I didn't dislike them, but they'd become a little too radio friendly, easy listening for my taste.
I think only the first album can be considered metal, the rest is rock.

Within Temptation is such a versatile band. They began in heavy metal, but have explored crossing a few genres, and has done very well. Each album has been an evolution. Did you know- Sharon has been a self taught vocalist? Finally, one of my favorites by WT that I would recommend would be the cover of David Guetta’s “Titanium”. It gives a dance song a terrific rock sound! Thanks!

    Great band, and good reaction!
She definitly has a beautiful high voice, but what I really love about their stuff is the versatility.
In their later work she has a much deeper voice but can still hit those highs!
I'd suggest checking out some of their stuff from The Unforgiving album, like 'Shot in the Dark' or 'Faster', it gives a nice combination of both her highs and lows.

Sharon den Adel is my absolute favourite. She has no vocal training ever. She doesn't even have one now but she developed her voice by practicing religiously everyday for 3 to 4 hours. Watch the DVD concert with the Black Metropole Orchestra. WITHIN TEMPTATION is touring with Evanenesce next year. I'm no fan of Amy's voice or music. Sharon also is stunningly gorgeous. She been with her rhythm guitarist since high school. Just binge watch their lives. Her voice wow. Can you tell I'm obsessed with Sharon.

You definitely should listen to The Truth Beneath the Rose. It’s one of my absolute favorite songs in existence. Some times it really hits me right in the soul and my eyes start watering and I get overwhelmed with the beauty of the song. I really like when Sharon sings in this high voice, as she does in this song. Mother Earth, Jillian and Deceiver of Truth are also top quality songs.
Also, if you like symphonic metal you should really check out some of Therion’s stuff. Pretty much everything from the album Vovin and the one named The Secret of the Runes is great. Maybe start with their official live version of Birth of Venus Illegitima? Those are their two best albums. They have also made an album with “covers”, though that word seems somewhat insufficient for how they adapt and transform the songs. La Maritza from that album is insanely good, as is the song Polichinelle. I really hope you check them out. The name of the album with the latter songs is called Les Fleur Du Mal.

I really like christian imagery in this video.
I mean look at the moment when the angels come. They don't fight the demon priest. They don't really do anything. They're just standing there.
AND THE DEMON CANNOT STAND THEIR VERY PRESENCE.
The light surrounding them is hurting him and making him powerless. He can only exist when he's far from their light.
That's the kind of power clash you rarely see anywhere. The fight that is not about physical force or energy, but merely presence.
